1 Mamava Press Kit Mamava designs solutions for nursing mamas on the go. We are dedicated to transforming the culture of breastfeeding, making it a more accepted, optimistic, realistic, accommodating, and inviting experience for all mamas. We seek to move culture beyond the mommy wars, beyond the pain points, beyond the setups to fail, to a place where nursing mamas are celebrated, supported, and given every accommodation to meet their breastfeeding goals - whatever they might be. Mamava does this with empathy, humor, and style. Our logo is a perfect expression of this mission - happy breasts and soon you will be seeing it everywhere. Makes FLSA compliance easy! Section 7(r) of the Fair Labor Standards Act mandates that employers with more than 50 hourly employees provide break time, and a private place to pump (not a bathroom). Mamava Media Mamava units make an excellent platform for brand sponsorship and advertising, helping to underwrite the cost. Ask us about our sponsored media program. Mobile App Every publicly installed Mamava goes on our Mamava locator app for iphone and Android, helping moms find Mamavas, and driving awareness of your business.
2 Our Company: Mamava is a category creator and leading expert in lactation spaces, integrating the biological, physical, and emotional needs of nursing moms into both the Mamava lactation suites and the Mamava mobile app. Mamava s freestanding, mobile lactation suites accommodate working and traveling nursing moms in over 150 locations across the country, providing them with a comfortable and dignified space to pump or feed privately. The suites feature benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump, space for bags or a stroller, and a door that can be locked for privacy. The Mamava mobile app helps moms locate Mamava suites on-the-go, as well as other nursing friendly locations. The new app, launching in January 2017, integrates with smart lock technology that allows moms to access the suites, review and rate their experience, while simultaneously serving-up sponsored content and personalized data to the user. Mamava is women founded, women owned, B Certified, and made in the USA.
3 Mamava in the Media: Mamava launched its first unit at Burlington International Airport (BTV) in August Since then our mission driven business has garnered national and international media attention for our partnerships with airports, professional sports stadiums, hospitals, schools, government buildings, and even military bases. For a complete listing of our locations and press coverage:
4 Our Co-founders: The idea for Mamava was born when Mamava cofounders Sascha Mayer and Christine Dodson faced the challenges of breastfeeding while away from home. Women who work away from their babies need to use a breast pump every few hours, and for many women, the only private place to do that is in a restroom or car neither of which are particularly private or sanitary. They believed women deserve better. Mamava is based in Burlington, Vermont, and was incubated at design agency Solidarity of Unbridled Labour (formerly JDK Design), where Sascha was Brand Strategy Director and Christine still is Managing Director. As the mothers of five kids between them, Sascha and Christine know a thing or two about being working, nursing moms. Mamava is inspired by their personal experiences, and the stories and frustrations that friends, colleagues, and thousands of women continue to share. 5 Facts: It s the Law! Section 7(r) of the Fair Labor Standards Act states that employers of 50 or more non-exempt employees are required to provide both adequate time and space (read: NOT a bathroom!) for nursing employees to express milk. The US Federal Government s Office of Personnel Management compiled a comprehensive list of benefits for employers and employees when lactation accommodations are provided. (Source: Guide for Establishing a Federal Nursing Mother s Program, policy-data-oversight/worklife/reference-materials/nursing-mother-guide.pdf) Increased Productivity Employees who breastfeed tend to have fewer absences and fewer instances of tardiness than mothers who do not because their infants are more resistant to sickness. Nursing mothers who have access to lactation accommodations in the workplace demonstrate higher productivity than new mothers who do not (Berger, Hill, & Waldfogel, 2005). This is frequently attributed to a lessened emotional and psychological burden associated with being away from the baby, as well as higher energy and greater optimism. Organizational Loyalty Employees often feel increased loyalty to their employer because the implementation of an effective lactation support program demonstrates that the organization supports her, her family, and her health. As a result, their employees report improved workplace satisfaction, greater sense of unity and closeness, and improved morale in the workplace (Slavit, 2009). Recruitment and Retention Worksite lactation support programs serve as an attractive recruitment tool for employing top-notch candidates. Organizations who support their breastfeeding employees have a 94.2 percent retention rate of female employees, compared to the national average of 59 percent (Gartner, Morton, Lawrence, Naylor, O Hare, Schanler, & Eidelman, 2005). Health Breastfed babies tend to have fewer and less severe instances of short-term illnesses, such as bacterial meningitis, diarrhea, ear infections, respiratory infections, and urinary tract infections. Certain chronic illnesses are also decreased including diabetes, lymphoma, leukemia, hypercholesterolemia, and asthma (Murtagh, & Moulton, 2011). In addition, women who breastfeed are at a lower risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and diabetes (Labbok & Krasovec, 1990).
