S ince its opening in late 2013, many residents in the Jurong East neighbourhood were aware of the Jurong East Community Health Centre (JECHC) nestled at the void deck of Block 229, Jurong East Street 21. This event gave them another opportunity to explore the facility. The Open House was held on 30 January 2016 at JECHC. Residents visited the JECHC to understand the various avenues for enabling them to better manage their health status and access chronic disease management at their doorstep. Being the only community health centre that begun operations in the Yuhua precinct, it currently handles all cases referred by doctors in the area for nursing and allied health services which are currently not available at GP clinics. Many of these residents who visited for the first time were also impressed with the layout and up-to-date equipment installed. They enjoyed the activities especially the Art Therapy sessions cum demonstration, informative talks on diet, nutrition and physiotherapy, while patronising the Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to our Muslim readers! SATA CommHealth witnessed a surge in the volume of students registered for their tertiary studies and were required to undergo a few basic health checks. These students were beginning their full time studies at their respective polytechnics or at the Institute of Technical Education. This was to ensure that the new students were in the pink of health as they start on their new journey of pursing higher qualifications. SATA CommHealth health screening buses were also stationed at Republic Polytechnic in Woodlands and at Nanyang Polytechnic in Ang Mo Kio to facilitate one-stop health screening service for the future polytechnic students at their convenience. New Mini-Bus Added to the Fleet SATA CommHealth added a new mini-bus to its current fleet of vehicles. PUBLIC HEALTH AWARENESS World TB Day - A Timely Reminder that TB is not Eradicated Curious visitors browsing through the materials from SATA CommHealth s booth at Tan Tock Seng Hospital s atrium on World TB Day. March 24th marks World TB Day, a day designated by World Health Organisation to raise awareness to fight against and prevent tuberculosis (TB) annually. The theme for World TB Day 2016 was Unite to Fight TB. In 2016, SATA CommHealth continues to play an advocacy role in the TB awareness campaign by bringing information on TB prevention, treatment and cure closer to the public. As the Ministry of Health figures indicate, there were 1,498 new tuberculosis cases among Singapore residents locally last year, slightly up from the 1,454 cases in Correspondingly, the incidence rate was 38.4 cases per 100,000 population in 2015, compared to 37.4 cases per 100,000 in The number of non-residents notified with TB was 1,206 in 2015 compared to 1,287 in Older age groups and males continue to make up a significant proportion of the new cases. Of the 1,498 new cases notified, 1,018 (68.0%) were 50 years of age and above, and 1,009 (67.4%) are male. There were 144 relapsed cases among Singapore residents. The emergence of multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) remains a serious public health challenge. In 2015, Singapore had five new cases of MDR-TB who were Singapore-born residents. To highlight TB awareness, we participated in a mini exhibition held at the atrium of Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Part of the additional efforts included highlighting World TB Day by running a print advertisement in The Straits Times to remind and inform the public about this yet-tobe eradicated lung disease. We also highlighted the theme of Unite to Fight TB in our SATA CommHealth Facebook page. Red pins symbolising the call to unite in the efforts to fight TB were also given out to visitors to our booth as well as at the medical centres. Part of the exhibited materials included our DOT & SHOP Programme that provides an annual sponsorship of $100,000 worth of supermarket vouchers to encourage full completion of the treatment cycle. SATA CommHealth continues to be an advocate against TB by conducting talks on TB, disseminating educational and TB prevention material through its programmes/ activities and advertisements.q

3 4 HealthLine July HealthLine July 2016 COMMUNITY HEALTH SATA CommHealth Conducts TB Screening for Residents of Block 203 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 When a cluster of Tuberculosis (TB) cases was found at Block 203 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 by the Tuberculosis Control Unit of Tan Tock Seng Hospital, SATA CommHealth was requested by the Ministry of Health to deploy medical personnel and an X-Ray bus on-site for screening the residents. A total of about 230 current and previous residents were screened by SATA CommHealth over a period of four days spanning 16th to 19th June.

SATA CommHealth s 2015 Annual Report was published in June before the Annual General Meeting which was held on 23 June The design concept focuses on using multi-faceted cubes to represent the various public and private partners that SATA CommHealth collaborates with to transform the lives of its clientele. The formation of the larger cube is the result of the many partnership cubes coming together to form the larger whole. The enlarged cube represents SATA CommHealth s aspiration to amalgamate and strengthen itself with many partnerships to become an integrated healthcare provider. The many smaller cubes coming together is also representative of the dynamic healthcare arena where there is much collaboration and partnerships to improve the health and wellbeing of our nation. On Sunday 13 February, SATA CommHealth participated in the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) Family Carnival situated in the heartlands of Choa Chu Kang. Held from 8:30am till 11:30am, residents from all walks of life and all ages thronged the carnival grounds, formally known as the Choa Chu Kang Community Club located at Teck Whye Avenue. Lively upbeat music played through loudspeakers also transformed the generally staid and quiet neighbourhood community club into a vibrant event site. Children were spotted bouncing on trampolines set up to promote new exercise regimes using the trampolines as a training tool; while other booths featured exciting giveaways and fun games. Lively stage performances featuring the trampoline workout were demonstrated. Physiotherapy talk on falls prevention at the carnival given by SATA CommHealth. At our booth, we provided the public with generous amounts of information pertaining to the Jurong East Community Health Centre or JECHC in short. Many of the community services department staff were also on hand to promote the benefits of managing chronic diseases at the centre after being referred by a general practitioner. The residents were intrigued by many displays of artificial parts of the human body affected by chronic diseases. q INTERACTIONS Ask The Expert! Several health screening packages are available. With an ageing population, this new service will also be a boon to the elderly and needy in the community. Our Homecare team offers a range of medical services at your doorstep, including home nursing such as wound care and dressing, home medical, home care supplies and other medical equipment rental (e.g. wheelchairs, walking aids and nebulisers). It reaches out mainly to immobile, physically impaired, post-surgery/ illness and aged sick who are incapable of performing activities of daily living by addressing their medical needs. Homecare Services For more details, please call or homecare@sata.com.sg (From Cover Page) Designed to function without a doctor in JECHC, the comprehensive auxiliary services available at this community health centre included Diabetic Foot screening (DFS), Digital Retinal Photography (DRP) and Electrocardiography, Spirometry and Health Parameters Monitoring. The centre also provides physiotherapy, health education and counselling services. The DFS, DRP and health education and counselling services offered by the centre equips the doctors in the community with a more comprehensive care framework, as well as help prevent complications with better monitoring of the patients conditions in the community setting.
