3 As president of AANP, it is my pleasure to invite you to join us in San Antonio, Texas for our 2016 National Conference, June as we showcase NPs on a Patient-Centered Mission. Since everything is bigger and brighter in Texas, we believe this schedule will live up to the hype of the Lone Star State. We will have three general sessions in Our opening general session speaker on Wednesday, presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin, brings extraordinary insight on the impact of the 24/7 news cycle, social media, pop culture and the rise of the Super PACs in the election process. With her uncanny sense for detail and a master storyteller s grasp of drama and depth, she brings history alive as she examines the leadership triumphs, trials and tribulations of the men and women who have shaped this nation, culled from her lifetime examination of the U. S. presidency. You don t want to miss this great opening session showcasing a unique historical perspective on political and current events. The Thursday general session will bring conference attendees up to date on the latest in both federal and state government affairs. Make plans to join MaryAnne Sapio, AANP VP, Federal Government Affairs and Tay Kopanos, AANP VP, State Government Affairs to learn the most current activities at the national and state levels. The closing general session on Saturday, June 23 features Amelie Hollier, DNP, FNP-BC, FAANP, with a lively presentation on the Seven Habits of Highly Effective NPs. This motivational presentation describes seven habits that help enrich NPs personally, professionally and clinically. The conference schedule includes approximately minute concurrent presentations as well as the very popular six-minute lectures. There are also podium and poster presentations, regional and specialty practice group meetings and plenty of time to network and exchange information. The exhibit hall will once again be filled with the latest products and services geared to practicing NPs as well as NP students. The 2015 exhibit hall attracted a record number of exhibitors with over 330 participants in the hall and we anticipate another strong presence in Circle June on your calendar. Specialty Practice Groups (SPGs) These are communities within AANP who share common goals in advancing knowledge and professional development in select areas. With the opening of three (3) new SPGs in 2015, the conference will offer five (5) sessions this year for members of these groups: Acute Care Orthopedics Dermatology Pain Management Convenient Care/Urgent Care You must be a current AANP member AND a member of the related SPG to attend a Specialty Practice Group session. If you are not a current member of an SPG when registering for the conference, you may select the SPG session and complete the check-out process, however, after registering, you will need to log-in to your AANP account and purchase an SPG membership. SPGs are only $20 each annually, prorated to your remaining membership term. For additional information about Specialty Practice Groups, go to aanp.org/membership/specialty-practice-groups. 6-Minute Lectures The popular 6-Minute Lectures will be presented on Saturday afternoon, June 25. Presenters will share pearls of wisdom in these brief presentations. 6-Minute Lectures are a fun and fast-moving platform for NPs to share their knowledge with fellow conference attendees. Watch for the Call for Abstracts that will be ed to all national conference registrants and speakers. Other Presentations In addition, there are other presentations such as general sessions, podium and poster presentations, regional meetings, Specialty Practice Groups and interest forums that add to the variety of the many session opportunities. EXHIBIT HALL AANP Store We will once again provide our AANP Store so attendees can purchase their favorite AANP branded apparel and items such as key chains, mugs, pens, etc. To visit the store throughout the year go to aanpstore.com. Market Place To continue broadening the Exhibit Hall experience, the Market Place which appeals to attendees personal interests will be available. 5 CONFERENCE INFORMATION PODIUM AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS Abstracts selected for podium (research/clinical/practice) and poster presentations feature the latest evidence in the field. A detailed schedule listing individual podium and poster presentations will be available in the AANP 2016 Conference Guide distributed on-site to registered attendees. These limited CE symposia and non-ce product theaters are funded entirely by the supporting/ sponsoring company, allowing AANP to offer some conference registrants complimentary access to a limited number of CE and non-ce educational presentations. Due to their educational focus and guideline requirements, attendance is restricted to only conference registrants. To expedite processing attendees into these events, registration/admission will occur at the entrance of each scheduled event, on a firstcome first-served basis. There will be no pre-registration. When available, IS event description notices will be posted on the National Conference page at aanp.org, on signage located throughout the conference area, and in the AANP 2016 National Conference Guide each registered attendee receives at AANP Registration Operations during conference check-in. CONTINUING EDUCATION / PHARMACOLOGY CONTACT HOURS The program is pending approval for CE and pharmacology credit by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Accreditation Program. Up to contact hours of CE will be offered at the 2016 National Conference. Most sessions will have the estimated number of contact hours listed near the educational session category in the registration brochure when available. Approved pharmacology credit will be posted on the National Conference page at aanp.org when available. All NP state regulatory agencies and certifying bodies recognize and accept AANP CE credit. PRESENTATION HANDOUTS The presentation handout link will be ed to all conference registrants no later than early June Registrants are encouraged to print the materials or store them on an electronic device prior to attending sessions. NAME BADGES Registered Attendees: Registered attendees MUST wear their official conference name badge at all times to access conference events. Guests of Registered Attendees: Complimentary guest badges for persons age 16 and older will be available at AANP Registration Operations. ID with proof of age and signature is required if requested by AANP management and/or security staff. This guest badge allows entrance into the Exhibit Hall only. CHILDREN Children (including infants) under the age of 16 are not allowed in conference sessions or the Exhibit Hall due to safety concerns, audio recording and maintaining an appropriate learning environment. CONFERENCE ATTIRE Attire at the national conference is business casual. The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center (HBGCC) strives to keep rooms at a comfortable temperature, but layered clothing is recommended. Comfortable shoes are highly recommended. STANDING & SITTING IN CLASSROOMS Sitting in chairs is required in classrooms for the majority of presentations due to Fire Marshall regulations. Sitting on floors is not permitted. Standing is very limited and not allowed unless there is a hands-on or networking portion of the session, or you have a medical or health condition. Please kindly inform the classroom assistant(s) if you have a medical or health condition and need to stand during part of a session. FORCE MAJEURE In the event AANP should find it necessary to cancel or postpone the AANP 2016 National Conference for any reason, including but not limited to low registration, strikes, acts of nature, war, terrorist acts or other circumstances beyond AANP s control, AANP s liability shall be limited to refund of registration fees paid to AANP. REGISTRATION OPERATIONS AANP MEMBERS/REGISTRATION CATEGORIES If you are not an AANP member, we encourage you to join and to take advantage of our great member conference rate. AANP members receive a discount on all conference registration fees. NP Members have successfully completed an NP program and/or maintain certification as NPs with a nationally approved certifying body. Associate Members are non-nps who are interested in fostering the objectives of AANP and the NP profession. Student Members are currently enrolled in an entry-level program that prepares nurse practitioners. Post Master s Student Members are nurse practitioners who have returned to school for further education. Career Starter Members are newly graduated NPs who are beginning their careers. AANP has the right to remove any housing reservations within the AANP Housing Block that are not supported by an AANP conference registration. Refunds: Refunds on paid registrations will be issued for written cancellation requests received, via , fax, or mail no later than Monday, May 16, All refunds will be issued for the paid registration minus a $50 administrative fee or a $25 administrative fee for a student registration. Special conference rates, ranging from $140-$199 (single/double) plus taxes and fees per night, will be honored for conference registrants and their families for reservations covering lodging between June 18-28, 2016, based on availability.
