About Waterford Chamber Skillnet The aim of Waterford Chamber Skillnet is to enable companies to endeavour to provide support and development of staff through industry relevant training. The objective is the up-skilling and cross skilling of employees, leading to increased employability, improved competitiveness and enhanced business performance resulting in the ability to evolve and adapt in challenging markets. 4 SPEAKERS MARY BURKE, CLINICAL NURSE MANAGER Mary Burke, Clinical Nurse Manager 3, Caredoc Nursing Services. Mary joined the Caredoc team in She has worked to develop remote assessment and telephone triage of patients in Ireland and has also lead in training and certification of triage nurses both nationally and internationally in the use of clinical decision support software. Mary has participated in leading the development and roll out of four hugely successful community intervention nursing teams in the South East of Ireland over the last four years, delivering community oncology urology and OPAT services to patients in the primary health care setting. GERALDINE MURRAY, CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST Geraldine Murray, MSc in Palliative Care, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist currently working with the Waterford Hospice Care Team. Geraldine has been working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist for almost nine years in both the acute and home care setting. Geraldine s key interest is nurse education in relation to the delivery of palliative care to both undergraduates and general nurses. She is passionate about encouraging all nurses to be comfortable in palliative care provision and delivery, her MSc focused on Exploring Community Nurses Experiences of Palliative Care Provision in Primary Care which she hopes to further investigate this topic at a more local level. SIOBHAN FITZPATRICK, CHARTERED PYYSIOTHERAPIST Siobhan Fitzpatrick is a Chartered Physiotherapist and member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP). She graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) with both her undergraduate and Masters degrees. Siobhan has vast experience in the area of musculoskeletal physiotherapy. She has worked in both the public and private health sectors in Waterford for the past 12 years. She is also involved in the education of undergraduate physiotherapy students on clinical placement in UHW. Siobhan is highly skilled in the treatment of all musculoskeletal dysfunction and has a special interest in sports injuries and Occupational Health. She is also the owner of Waterford Chartered Physiotherapy Clinic, Occupational Health in University Hospital Waterford. GEMMA FLYNN, HOME INSTEAD SENIOR CARE Gemma is a Registered General Nurse and Occupational Therapist that has been working as a Care Co-ordinator with Home Instead Senior care for over three years. Gemma has over 12 years experience working in Older Person s Care, in both residential and community care settings in Ireland, the UK and Australia. Her key areas of interest lie in Quality of Life & Engagement in Meaningful Occupations and Dementia Care. As part of her Master Studies in the UK Gemma completed research entitled A Dementia Café from an Occupational Perspective: A Qualitative Study using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA).
5 DEIRDRE DOWLING, MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION Deirdre is a graduate of NUI Maynooth, holds a BA in Community Studies, hdip in Guidance and Counselling and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Bereavement Studies from the Irish Hospice Foundation and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Deirdre has been exploring and practicing mindfulness for seven years and is trained as a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher with the Institute for Mindfulness Based Approaches (Germany) and is also a qualified Teacher (Mindfulness for Adolescents) with the Mindfulness in Schools Project. Deirdre is also a facilitator at The Sanctuary, Dublin founded by Sister Stanislaus. She has been working in community education for the past 15 years where she has delivered HSE health education programmes, and facilitated bereavement support groups for the Irish Sudden Infant Death Association. Deirdre also delivers bereavement education workshops for the Irish Hospice Foundation. DR. FERGUS MCNAMARA, THE KEOGH PRACTICE Dr. Fergus Macnamra is a General Practitioner and Partner with The Keogh Practice located in Ballybricken, Waterford. Dr. Macnamara graduated in Medicine from University College Dublin in He then went on to practice emergency medicine in Royal North Shore, Sydney Australia. Dr. Macnamara undertook the Surgical Training Scheme, and General Practitioner Training, and is a member of both the Royal College of Surgeon s Ireland (MRCSI) and the Irish College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). His main areas of interest within healthcare lie in some of the following: minor surgical procedures, skin lesions, wound care, foot care, and methodone treatment. DR. EMMET WALLS, UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WATERFORD Dr. Walls is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine for the HSE South East. Dr. Walls originally trained and worked as a General Practioner in Ireland, and obtained his qualifications of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in National University of Ireland - Galway, and has been working in Palliative medicine for 24 years. Waterford Chamber Skillnet is funded by member companies and the Training Networks Programmes, an initiative of Skillnets, funded from the National Training Fund through the Department of Education & Skills.
