2 Dr. Michael Bauer (Key Note Speaker) Michael is a senior researcher at the Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care where his work is aimed at improving service delivery and the quality of life for older people in care settings. He has presented widely and developed a range of practical resources to assist aged care facilities to develop more collaborative relations with family and to be more supportive of residents. Other projects include exploring dementia and decision making, complementary and alternative medicine use in Aged Care and ways to improve the experience of hospital transition and discharge for people with dementia and their carer s. Dr. Kieran O Connor Kieran is a medical graduate of University College Cork (UCC). He completed higher medical training in geriatric medicine & general internal medicine in various hospitals in Ireland and subsequently completed his clinical training at the University Trust in Birmingham, UK. Kieran was awarded an MSc in Epidemiology from University of London in In January 2006, he was appointed as consultant physician in geriatric medicine in Cork working between Mercy University Hospital and St Finbarr s Hospital. Kieran s research interests include health service evaluation of services for older people, elder abuse and self-neglect, falls in later life, and hospital discharge processes. Dr. Marie Murphy Marie is a Consultant Physician in Palliative Medicine and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at UCC. She is based at Marymount University Hospice, Curraheen, Cork and is one of 3 Consultant Physicians delivering specialist palliative care services to Cork City and County. A graduate of UCC and fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, Marie completed her post graduate training in Palliative Medicine at St Christopher s Hospice, London. Prior to her appointment in Cork she was Medical Director of St Ann s Hospice, Salford, Manchester. Ms. Judy Wall Judy is a Senior Clinical Psychologist working with the HSE in Cork. A graduate of UCC, she completed her Clinical Psychology Training at University College, London. She subsequently worked in mental health teams for older people in London before returning to take up her present post in Her clinical areas of interest include the needs of carers of those with a dementia and she regularly runs carers courses for this group. She is also interested in the use of mindfulness based therapeutic work with groups of older people and attachment issues in people with later stage dementia. Dr. Lynne Marsh Lynne qualified as a Registered Nurse in Intellectual Disability in 1992 and was employed as a Staff Nurse for 16 years. She joined the School of Nursing and Midwifery UCC in 2005 as a College Lecturer. Since returning to UCC Lynne has completed a Batchelors Degree and two Masters Degrees. In 2014 Lynne concluded her studies with a Doctor of Nursing Degree. Ms. Ber Barry-Murray Ber is a senior professional mediator, facilitator and workplace investigator working with organisations, families and individuals to manage increasingly complex and conflictual relationships. She is a member of the panel of mediators for the Medical Council and the panel of investigators for the HSE and Ombudsman for Children s Office. Ms. Bridget McDaid Bridget is currently Senior Safeguarding & Older Persons Officer (HSE). Prior to this she was the dedicated Officer for the Protection of Older People (HSE West). She has responsibilities for safeguarding and protecting of vulnerable persons policy and training development. Bridget trained as a RGN and also holds a Higher Diploma in Occupational Health (NUI, Galway) and a Masters in Health Promotion (University of Ulster).

He has presented widely and developed a range of practical resources to assist aged care facilities to develop more collaborative relations with family and to be more supportive of residents expression of their sexuality. His other projects have explored Dementia and decision making, complementary 2PM - 5PM and alternative medicine use in aged care and ways to improve the experience of hospital transition and The Way We Die Now discharge for people with Dementia and their carers. Dr. Seamus O Mahony is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Cork University Hospital. He is Associate Editor for Medical Humanities of the Journal of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and is a regular contributor to the Dublin Review of Books. His recent book called The Way We Die Now explores whether we have lost the ability to deal with death. Dr. Seamus O Mahony
