This session offers you a first step for assessing skills and helps you develop a plan for pursuing certification and fellowship. David Taylor is a corporate vice president of CoxHealth s Systems Resource Group. Linda Martien brings her 40+ years of experience in coding, billing, auditing, practice management and consulting to the table. She began her work in the medical arena as an EMT in remote Arizona, as one of the first class to be licensed in that state. She is current the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the AAPC Chapter Association and has served as a past officer and member of the AAPC National Advisory Board, as well as various local chapter officer positions in the Columbia and Jefferson City, MO chapters. She is employed by Revenue Cycle Solutions providing education, training and auditing services to select clients. Sarah Reed brings over 37 years of experience in Healthcare. She has a BSE in Education and feels she has taught every day of her career since starting at Truman Medical Center in Much of her career has been spent in administrative roles in both academic and private practice settings. Over the years, Sarah s primary interests have centered on coding compliance, auditing, and education for physicians and staff. Sarah s most recent role was as a Senior Managing Consultant and Coding Instructor for Medical Revenue $olutions, LLC (MRS). 3 Is Your Physician Ready Coding, Communication and Documentation Brenda Edwards, CPC Is your provider willing to roll the dice with current documentation? Whether we discuss documentation from a CDI standpoint or for ICD 10 diagnosis coding, the common thread is being prepared. Topics include effective provider education, documentation and compliance in the EHRs. This interactive session includes how to as well as how to not communicate with your providers when delivering coding and documentation education Brenda Edwards has been involved in the healthcare arena for 30 years with experience in chart audit, coding and billing, education, consulting, practice management and compliance. She works closely with practices, providers and residency programs to ensure documentation is compliant and accurate. She is widely published and is a much sought after speaker. Her humorous and engaging presentation style has made her a favorite at both regional and national conferences for the AAPC as well as local chapter meetings and other organizations. Brenda is past chair of the AAPC Chapter Association Board of Directors. Mentoring fellow members of the AAPC is a passion of hers. She is the co founder of the Northeast Kansas (NEKAAPC) chapter and has served in many offices. Intruder Alert (Run, Hide or Fight) Rick Goins Rick Goins is from Homeland Security and he will review best practices in the event an intruder enters the premises. 11:15 12:15pm Breakout Sessions Playing the Long Game & Winning Why Telemedicine & Patient Engagement Matter Cameron Cox Healthcare is moving from a service to a relationship. If physician practices want to be successful, the patient experience must be prioritized above all else. Even the carriers agree and are developing telemedicine policies designed to incentivize providers, increase patient satisfaction and control their costs. This presentation will highlight the importance of adopting telemedicine and engaging patients. NPP Relations Ethan Hampton, CRNP We will discuss the role of the nurse practitioner in primary care; Nurse practitioner vs. physician assistant; and How are nurse practitioners viewed by physicians and patients? Ethan started his healthcare career as nurse s aid in nursing home, later worked a few years in Springfield MO as surgical intensive care nurse, and then as cardiovascular intensive care nurse in North Kansas City while obtaining his Master s degree in nursing. He is currently practicing at an internal medicine clinic in the North Kansas City area. He has a passion for preventative healthcare, especially diabetic treatment and education. MACRA, MIPS and HIPAA Slips Kyle Haubrich, JD and Diane Robbin, JD What is MACRA, MIPS and HIPAA today and how will they affect your practice? Kyle Haubrich and Diane Robbin are attorneys at Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard, PC Behind the Audit 8 Ball Linda Duckworth, CPC Physician practices are finding themselves behind the 8 ball when audited by Medicare. Often the initial audit response (release of records) is mishandled by staff who are not qualified to process the release. So, what can be done proactively? After this session, Managers and Coders will have a heightened awareness of how their practice is monitored by Medicare, and what they can do to self monitor. They will be able to anticipate the most problematic areas for physicians of all specialties. They will receive instruction on how to respond to documentation requests correctly, and completely, the first time around, and learn key coding terms to interject into their audit responses. Case studies will be provided so that the audience can see their provider s documentation, coding and claims through a compliance officer s, and auditor s eyes. Linda Duckworth has over 30 years of experience in Healthcare ranging from practice management to audit, education and compliance. She has developed surgical and E/M audit programs for a multitude of specialty practices. She has built internal audit and compliance programs for several organizations. She is well acquainted with the billing regulations of larger Academic institutions and smaller Rural Health Care centers. Linda has created effective CME and CEU training courses for physicians and staff and has authored articles for coding, reimbursement, and physician specialty industry publications. She has been a speaker at local, regional and national.

Specific topics include 2018 implementation details for the Medicare Quality Payment Program, as well as payment policy changes finalized under the 2018 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, among a host of other timely issues. As a Government Affairs Analyst, Drew Voytal provides data insights, program management and evaluation to the MGMA Government Affairs team. He works closely with each staff member to help policymakers in Washington D.C. understand the realworld impacts of federal healthcare policies and regulations on medical groups. Coding Chronic Conditions Brenda Edwards, CPC Chronic conditions account for a large percentage of healthcare dollars. The accurate capture of these charges is critical. Our discussion will include helpful tips to ensure documentation is thorough and complete. We will review the importance of reporting manifestations and combination codes. Chronic conditions discussed in this presentation includes diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, kidney disease, heart disease and sepsis. 4:15 5:15pm Breakout Sessions How to Handle a Difficult Staff or Boss Scott Foster Difficult people can be a combination of self centered attitudes, motivations, and behaviors that have adverse effects on staff, the organization, and mission performance. This person lacks concern for others and the climate of the organization, which leads to short and long term negative effects. Scott will identify ways to work in this environment and discuss how you can protect yourself and your staff from buckling under the pressure. Scott Foster is a dynamic Human Resources professional with over 10 years of experience in Human Resources Consulting, Organizational Development, Leadership Development, Employee Relations, Certified Meyers Briggs Practitioner, and Recruitment/Retention.
