3 Purpose of the Service Purpose of the role : : Whitiki Maurea is a Maori clinical service within the Waitemata DHB District Mental Health Services Division. We provide clinical care in mental health and addictions with a tikanga Maori (cultural values and concepts) approach. To facilitate and provide Tikanga Maori (Maori cultural values) based counselling and therapeutic interventions with Tangata Whai i te Ora (Maori service users) whose lives have been affected by the misuse of alcohol and/or drugs. To provide educational knowledge (matauranga) to secondary schools, Iwi, marae communities to help whanau to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and drug use. To provide Tikanga Maori (Maori cultural values) support to Waitemata District Mental Health Services Division teams. Ie CADS. KEY TASKS To facilitate and provide Tikanga Maori (Maori cultural values) based counselling and therapeutic interventions with Tangata Whai i te Ora (Maori service users) whose lives have been affected by the misuse of alcohol and/or drugs. Including facilitation of group programmes EXPECTED OUTCOMES Manage referrals and follow standard process and procedures. ie Waharoa (triage process), Duty Counsellor responsibilities Clinical assessment and counselling to tangata whai i te ora Maori Efficient management a clinical caseload. Appointments for tangata whai i te ora Maori are scheduled for assessments and follow up sessions. Tangata whai i te ora Maori are regularly reviewed and appropriate care plans/discharge plans are updated and completed. Provide group programmes within a Tikanga Maori framework that will promote the concept of healing in relation to alcohol and drug misuse. ie Te Whare Tapa Wha and Powhiri Poutama Facilitation of group programmes that ensure effective delivery of harm reduction philosophy. Review programmes to ensure continuous quality improvement through group evaluation process. To provide educational knowledge (matauranga) to secondary schools, Iwi, marae communities to help whanau to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and drug use. To provide Tikanga Maori (Maori cultural values) support to Waitemata District Mental Health Services Division teams, Auckland DHB,Counties-Manukau DHB catchment areas. Facilitate educational programmes of the harm reduction philosophy from a Tikanga Maori (Maori cultural values) at Iwi, Maori organisations and marae communities. Participation in ongoing reviews of Clinical Pathways. Pro-actively seek input/feedback from Tangata Whaiora in regards to service delivery and improvements.
