2 THE 2016 AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE Each year, NAWIC recognises the outstanding achievements of women in the construction industry at its Awards for Excellence. The Awards will be held in Melbourne on Friday 2 September There are 10 separate categories of Awards available: 1. CRYSTAL VISION AWARD FOR ADVANCING THE INTERESTS OF WOMEN IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY The Crystal Vision Award celebrates the achievements of individuals or groups with vision who actively promote and encourage women to become part of and progress in the construction industry. The encouragement may be by way of establishing policies, supporting legislation and creating organisation structures. This category is open to any individual, business or organisation operating in Victoria or Tasmania. 2. BUSINESSWOMAN AWARD The Businesswoman Award recognises the achievement of a woman who is a director, owner, partner or senior manager of a company or organisation directly involved in the construction industry. This category is open to anyone who is a director, owner, partner or senior manager of a company or organisation that is directly involved in the construction industry. 3. YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD The Young Achiever Award recognises the dedication and excellence of an individual under 30 years who is involved in the construction industry. The award is assessed on significance of contribution to the construction industry, leadership potential and involvement in community affairs. This category is open to individuals who are under 30 years of age as of 1 July DESIGN AWARD The Design Award recognises the achievement of women in the design of a project. The award is assessed on use of innovation, unique features of design in any discipline, ability to respond effectively to client needs, quality and standard of work. This category is open to individuals for design achievements in relation to a project that reached practical completion after 1 January ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AWARD The Environmental Sustainability Award encourages environmental or socially sustainable practices within the construction industry. The award is assessed on innovative practices, use of new technologies and impact on workforce, community and environment which exceed the client brief. This category is open to individuals who have achieved or made a significant contribution to the implementation of environmentally or socially sustainable practices either in relation to a project (which was completed after 1 January 2015) or within the construction industry. This includes sustainable designs, sustainable construction practices, environmental management and improvements. 6. DELIVERY, DEVELOPMENT OR CONSTRUCTION AWARD The Delivery, Development or Construction Award recognises the achievement of an individual in the areas of delivery, development or construction. It includes roles such as project or construction management, consulting, finance, legal, commercial and marketing. The award is assessed on significance and unique nature of contribution, the use of innovation, best practice, management of budget and/or project delivery. This category is open to individuals who were involved with, contributed to or had responsibility for the project which reached practical completion after 1 January NAWIC Awards General Information

3 8. STUDENT AWARD The Student Award recognises the achievement of a student currently studying at an educational institution. The successful student will be presented with a cheque for $1,000. This category is open to individuals who are currently enrolled in a construction industry-related course e.g. architect, interior design, engineering (civil, electrical mechanical), landscape architect, project management, construction management. 9. EMERGING LEADER AWARD The Emerging Leader Award recognises recognises an individual exhibiting significant initiative and unquestionable leadership potential in the building and construction industry. All nominees should be currently involved in building, construction or infrastructure related project/s or work within an industry related company. The successful candidate will be presented with a leadership course designed to enhance confidence, communication skills and develop their leadership. The catergory is open to individuals within the building and construction industry. Age Range: Open. 10. DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION CHAMPION AWARD (GENDER) The Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award recognises an individual (male or female) or an organisation who has demonstrated a significant commitment to increasing the diversity and inclusion of their workplace through the development of either a site based and/or regionally based and/or organisation wide Diversity and Inclusion Program/ Initiative. Whilst this category is open to diversity and inclusion subject matter experts, individuals working in nondiversity specific or HR roles within the building and construction industry are also encouraged to apply. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY 1. With the exception of the Crystal Vision and Diversity and Inclusion Awards, only individuals may be nominated for an award. An individual may be nominated on behalf of a group of people. Organisations may be nominated for the Crystal Vision or Diversity and Inclusion Award. 2. Individual nominees must usually reside in Victoria or Tasmania. Organisations nominated for the Crystal Vision or Diversity and Inclusion Award must have an operational unit in Victoria or Tasmania. 3. You must be a member of NAWIC to nominate or be nominated for an award. 4. Nominees may be self-nominated or nominated by another person. 5. Nominations are encouraged from both the public and private sectors who are employed by small, medium or large organisations or those who are self-employed. Nominees will be assessed primarily by reference to their own achievements (i.e. their contribution to a project). 6. Nominees should address all of the selection criteria described in the nomination form and submission document and may provide further information if it is relevant to their submission. 7. Nominees should be prepared to attend an interview and site inspection with the judges if required, regardless of which category has been entered. This will enable the nominees to demonstrate to the judges any unique or outstanding features of their work and to explain any other relevant matters. 8. All nominees are encouraged to attend the Awards Presentation Dinner. 9. NAWIC reserves the right to use any entry in the Awards for promotional and marketing purposes. NAWIC will use its best endeavours to avoid, but will not be responsible for, any error, omission or misrepresentation made in such case. 10. Each category will to be judged by a panel of 3 senior professionals from construction or construction related organisations. 2. There is one Award for Excellence in each category. The judging panel may decide not to present an Award in a particular category. In some circumstances there may be a High Commendation in addition to or instead of an Award. 3. The judges decision is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into. ENTRY CHECK LIST 1. Complete all details on the online Nomination form. 2. The content of your finalised online entry should be limited to the word count specified in your category. Your online entry should be structured as follows: 2.1 Nomination form and Submission entered online; 2.2 Supporting material uploaded; 2.3 Letter of owner s authorisation of application (if applicable) uploaded; 2.4 Referrences (if applicable) uploaded; 2.5 Photo of nominee uploaded; photos relevant to the entry uploaded; 2.7 Checked the correct boxes on the confirmation section. 4. The various panels have been carefully constituted to ensure that no conflict of interest exists, or is seen to exist. 5. Compliance with the entry requirements is taken into consideration by the judges. Failure to comply with the entry requirements may result in disqualification. 6. The judges may request further information and/or documentation from a nominee if necessary to fully consider the submission. 7. If the judges do not consider that any person nominated in a particular category meets a standard sufficient to warrant the presentation of an award, the judges are not bound to give an award in that category. 5 ABOUT NAWIC The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 1995 whose mission is to promote and improve the construction industry by the advancement of women within it. NAWIC provides a forum for its members to meet and exchange information, ideas and solutions to important issues facing the construction industry. It offers individual members an opportunity to expand personal and business networks, maintain awareness of industry developments, improve skills and knowledge and make a contribution to other women in the construction industry. It has chapters throughout Australia and overseas.
