1 Overview Chingay Parade is organised and managed by the Singapore Chingay & Events Network (SCENE) Division of the People s Association (PA). Chingay Parade 2015 will be held on Fri, 27 and Satur, 28 February 2015, 8.00pm at the Pit Building Area beside the Singapore Flyer. There will be one National Education (NE) show on Satur, 14 February 2015 and a special on Sun, 1 March 2015 at Orchard Road. Every year, the Chingay Organising Committee requires the support of over 2,000 volunteers in various aspects of the parade as our hospitality ambassadors, production crew, motivators, crowd control, traffic management, F&B and logistics volunteers etc. Volunteer support is crucial to the smooth operations of Chingay and the major rehearsals prior to the parade. For Chingay 2015 to celebrate Singapore 50, we will require more than 3,000 volunteers to assist to ensure an even bigger and grander parade for Singaporeans and tourists to come together to enjoy. Volunteers Sought for the following Roles & Duties 1 Crowd Management (Parade Area) - To provide directions and information to members of the public - To facilitate the movement of performers - To facilitate the movement of invited guests / VIPs (For the systematic, orderly, organised and service-oriented who takes pride in ensuring law and order, and that people can arrive at their designated seats and leave the venue quickly and happily) 400 per 2 Briefing Sessions in Jan 2015 Page 1 of 7
2 2 Traffic Management (Transport) - To manage the arrival and departure of performers - To manage the arrival and departure of organised groups (For the systematic, orderly, organised and service-oriented who likes to ensure buses drop off at the correct venue, report to the correct carpark and takes pride in ensuring law and order, and that performers and audiences can arrive and leave the venue quickly and happily) 350 per 2 Briefing Sessions in Jan 2015 Major Rehearsals: Full dress rehearsal for local groups Sat 7 Feb pm Combined full dress rehearsal for foreign and local groups Thu 26 Feb pm 5.00pm 10.00pm 6.00pm 11.00pm 6.00pm 11.00pm Page 2 of 7
3 3 Hospitality Ambassadors/Motivators - To welcome the audience - To create excitement and lead in the participation of the crowd (For the wild and hyperactive who can bring a smile to the audiences, make them feel welcome and engaged during the parade - you will learn cheers, songs and actions to hype up the crowd before, during and after the parade) 700 per 3 briefing and training sessions between Dec 2014 to Feb 2015 Major Rehearsals: Full dress rehearsal for local groups Sat 7 Feb 2015, 6.00pm 11.00pm Combined full dress rehearsal for foreign and local groups Thu 26 Feb 2015, 6.00pm 11.00pm Page 3 of 7
4 4 General Hospitality - General Ushering for Guests at Seated Galleries - To check tickets and usher guests to their designated seats - To interact with the guests & to encourage them to have fun - To answer general queries from guests - To distribute goodies bags / collaterals (if any) (For the service-oriented who takes pride in serving and attending to queries from members of the public, usher guests to their seats and distribute goodie bags) 550 per Briefing sessions between Dec 2014 to Feb 2015 Page 4 of 7
5 5 Volunteer Leaders (need to go through selection) - Oversee and manage a group of volunteers (average 2 leaders for every 18 volunteers) - Attend additional recce / briefing sessions with planning committee to understand the operational plans - Assist in administrative issues (contacting of/disseminating information to volunteers, marking of attendance etc) - Communicate the plans to the volunteers under their charge - Resolve any issues/situations that occur - Encourage and motivate the volunteers (For those who possess leadership qualities with relevant leadership experience, problem solver and quick thinker and likes to manage groups of people) 150 Additional training & briefing sessions from December / January All sessions indicated in the particular area involved * The dates provided are for reference. 6 Pre requisites of Volunteers CHINGAY PARADE SINGAPORE Aged 15 years and above 2. Able to commit to all the sessions stated 3. Able to work independently 4. Willing to learn new skills and meet new people Pre requisites of Volunteer Leaders 1. Aged 17 years and above 2. Able to commit to all duty s 3. Preferably with some leadership experience 4. Possess relevant leadership qualities, problem solving abilities and good interpersonal skills 5. Able to handle large number of people 6. Able to perform under stress and work pressure 7.
