1 Minnesota Lace Society July 2018 Meeting: July 9 th at 6:45pm Location: South Haven Apartments, Common Bond Community Program: no program Summer Meetings: Summer meetings will be held the 2 nd Monday of the month at 6:45 in the community room of South Haven Apartments, Common Bond Community. The address is 3400 Parklawn Avenue, Edina You will need to buzz our member, Angela Stalheim, in apartment 711 for door opening. There is a kitchenette, the room is attached to a patio, and there is a grill available if you want to bring something to make for yourself for dinner, or something to share, it's fine, but not required. There will be no business at the summer meetings, so please bring projects to work on. Linda Hunt has agreed to take over as treasurer, Rhonda Grobe will take a second term as president. Craft for at St. Cate s-demonstrations from 10:00 to 4:00 Nancy Wellington and Lynn Fumuso will represent MLS at the Textile Center display tables at the craft fair at St Cate's on July 7th. We are scheduled from 12 to 4 (the display packs up an hour before the event ends). We have room for another demonstrator without a bobbin lace pillow. Demonstrators must bring their own chairs. Parking is street parking, you may need to carry your things. If you are interested, please contact Lynn Fumuso. Minnesota State Fair Demonstrations- The State Fair will be starting soon. If you can, plan on demonstrating. Philanthropic project Festival of Trees Hand-made lace stars are still needed to decorate the tree for the Festival of Trees. The stars can be made with any color thread, beads can be included and no bigger than 4. Sue Rypka is collecting the finished stars. Any extra stars will be donated to Bundles of Love for their craft fair and auction. Demonstration hours- Make sure you let Pam Tucker know the number of volunteer hours you do. This also includes preparation and driving to the events you demonstrate at. These hours help keep the IOLI s nonprofit status. Hours that should be included travel time, preparation time, time spent for officer duties ********************* Bobbin Lace workshop by Dagmar Beckel The class has not been re-scheduled. Lynn will work with Dagmar to find some future dates for the class. Beginning Bobbin Lace Class Anne Stepan will be teaching a beginning bobbin lace class at the Textile Center. See their web site for details and registration. 1

Textile Center News- Textile Center enters into purchase agreement for 3300 University Ave Textile Center is pleased to announce that it has entered into a purchase agreement with United Properties to acquire 3300 University Ave SE. Located at the foot of the Tower Hill Park along Clarence Ave SE, this property has a two-story, 31,000 square-foot building and a parking lot that can accommodate up to 40 vehicles. Textile Center would operate out of its current location for the next few years during an intensive period of fundraising and planning, and eventually renovation. If all goes well, closing could be as early as this fall. Important Parking Changes at Textile Center The Textile Center has purchased a new parking lot, located at 3018 University Ave. SE (just two doors east of Textile Center). The new lot will be available for use by Textile Center patrons starting March 1. The purchase of this new lot assures we have a base of parking available for everyone using Textile Center s facilities. DO park: In the lot directly behind our building at 3000 University Ave SE In the new lot at 3018 University Ave SE Look for bright GREEN signs! 3 Art at St. Kate s 2018 July 7 th from 10:00am to 5:00pm Artists' Circle is once again inviting the Textile Center and affiliated guilds to participate at Art at St Kate's 2018, taking place at St Catherine University in St Paul. This gives us an opportunity to share information about our group and demonstrate different lace techniques to the public. Demonstration time would be 2 to 4 hour blocks. Nancy Wellington and Lynn Fumuso will be demonstrating at this event. Textile Center Classestextilecentermn.org Mindful Stitching July 14 Intro to Marbling on Fabric July Mini Knotted Jewelry August 7 Sustainable Wardrobe July Beginning Bobbin Lace September 19-October 24 Anne Stepan Check the website for other classes and workshops. ********************* IOLI news- Kumiko Nakazaki Workshop October Kumiko is an internationally well-known lace designer and teacher who has taught extensively in Europe, Japan and the United States. She studied under Anne-Marie Verbeke-Billiet at the Kancentrum (Lace Center) in Bruges, Belgium. Kumiko has published at least ten sizeable pattern folders of her original designs and she frequently designs patterns for the Kant magazine published by the Kancentrum. She will be teaching the following lace techniques Binche, Binche design, Flanders, Duchesse. I will have registration forms at the meeting. Pam Tucker keeps the officer information up to date on the IOLI website. The addresses for the officers remain the same and are passed from one person to her successor. There are pictures and other items posted by members IOLI Convention Co-hosted with the Alamo Bobbin Lacers July 22-28, 2018 San Antonio, Texas El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel Our 65th annual convention will be co-hosted by the Alamo Bobbin Lacers at the El Tropicano River Walk Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. The Convention begins July 22nd and ends on July 28, You can find more information on our website or visit our Facebook page. 3

Twin Cities Tatters Meet on Saturday once a month at the Moundsview library from 10am-12 Contact Michelle Vitt at vitt@minnehahaacademy.net to get on the ing list. Anyone interested in tatting is welcome! ******************* The German Lace Shop, puts out a monthly bobbin lace pattern for free If you are involved with anything that is lace related, such as demonstrating, teaching, mentoring - let Anne know and she will put it in the newsletter. Let everyone know what you are doing to promote these wonderful crafts. If there are websites with free patterns for the type of lace that you like, please let Anne know so that she can look at these sites to get patterns for this newsletter. 4
