During the Q&A session, immediately following the presentation, the moderator will ask the questions asked during the webinar via Chat or Q&A windows. The presentation will be recorded and available at the SME Website for SME Members in 5 7 business days. If you have any difficulties, please dmoulton@sme.org
Who is Rodney Grover? Third-Generation SME Member Grew Up In Manufacturing Believes in SME, its Purpose, People and Products
About Your SME Education Foundation History Established in 1978 Primary Focus on Postsecondary Engineering Program Support until Scholarships Current Corporate & Endowed (Chapter) Changed Primary Focus in 2008 Youth Program Support Achievements $17.5M investment over 30 years to 35 college and university programs $9.4M in scholarships and $1.2 in awards over 38 years with $1.1M in scholarships in 2015 to 496 students $345M in in-kind partnership contributions $9M investment in youth programs
Focused Programs Scholarships Focus Funding Principles Administration How you can support? PRIME What does PRIME stand for? What is PRIME? Costs How You Can Help Elevator Pitch
PRIME Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education What is PRIME? PRIME builds upon the SME Education Foundation s long history of inspiring preparing and supporting the future workforce for manufacturing Represents a custom, per-community, industry-driven approach to addressing the current and future skills gap for manufacturing Translates the needs of manufacturing directly into the education system, creating immediate contributors for our industry Challenges the outdated perception of manufacturing and creates future champions
What value does PRIME provide its supporters and partners? Provides a direct avenue to attract, influence and train a future manufacturing workforce Closes the skills gap much quicker and more economically than the traditional education to career pathway Gives donors and supporters a platform to tie corporate citizenship goals to a priority business objective of workforce training and development
What does PRIME cost? PRIME is represented by three levels of commitments, each over a three-year cycle: BUILD The school has very little current focus on advanced manufacturing education tied to industry need. PRIME brings equipment, technology, teacher training, curriculum, summer camp programing, mentoring, scholarships and more to the school and builds out a program to represent the needs of that manufacturing community within 3 years. (Average $300K) BOLSTER The school has some level of current curriculum and equipment, however, it needs updating and customization to meet the needs of the manufacturing partnerships in that community. ($150K - $200K) INTEGRATE The school is doing great work, however, may need to develop career pathways, summer camps to attract younger students and some upgrades to equipment or curriculum. ($30K - $50K)
How can you help your SME Education Foundation? Make connections, open your network making introductions of SME Education Foundation staff who will cultivate and make the ask Help us tell our story and spread the word that we are not just talking about the skills gap as an organization, we are doing something about it Start a PRIME initiative through your chapter s outreach into the community - Provides a platform to influence within the community Manufacturing, Economic Development & Education - Gives Purpose & Meaning to Chapter Engagement - Drives Awareness & Attracts New Members Give Today smeef.org
PRIME s mission is to provide multiple pathways into manufacturing careers for all students. Providing them access to people, technology, tools, curriculum and financial resources for future success in manufacturing careers. Why? America has a 3 million person skills gap in a industry vital to the financial well being of our communities and critical to our security as a nation.
