IMPACT ENTREPRENEURS REPORT
Impact Entrepreneurs unleashes the promise of business for social impact. We do this by educating, training, and advising social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs of all ages, across sectors, and worldwide, with a vision of creating a more just world where all life flourishes. A program of Portland State University's (PSU) School of Business, Impact Entrepreneurs has now merged with PSU's Business Outreach Program and other entrepreneurial offerings to form a new Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This report charts our progress over the past academic year and points towards a future of integrated initiatives and shared partnerships that support PSU's mission to "Let Knowledge Serve the City." Fundraising: in the past academic year, Impact Entrepreneurs wrote or co-wrote $521,000 in successful sponsorships, grants, and contracts awarded to programs throughout Portland State University. Without this support and in-kind sponsorships from community partners, our work would not be possible. Thank you!

Elevating Impact Summit The Elevating Impact Summit exposes attendees to powerful entrepreneurial approaches to creating change locally and globally, and celebrates social entrepreneurship and social innovation across a diverse set of stakeholders. In 2017, the fourth annual Elevating Impact Summit attracted more than 500 social entrepreneurs, corporate and nonprofit professionals, impact investors, students and faculty for a day of inspiring presentations by globally recognized innovators, a Social Innovation Pitch Fest, and social innovation awards. The 2017 theme, From Ancient Mythology to Future Technology, explored how lessons and wisdom from the past can inform our pathways into the future, from impact invention to artificial intelligence. Jiko Power, which sells devices that convert stove heat into electricity for disaster preparedness, camping, and international development, took first place in the Pitch Fest. 3 to PhD and InStove won impact awards, and Global PDX was publicly launched as a way to connect international development experts and organizations based in Oregon. 6 B Corp Programs Impact Entrepreneurs has two programs to help Oregon companies achieve B Corp certification or recertification, a rigorous third-party verification of a company's triple-bottom-line practices. The first, B Impact PSU, is a student-led consulting program that helps companies already on their way to certification. The second, the B Corp Support Program in partnership with PSU's Business Outreach Program, moves a cohort of ten women, minority, and low-income business owners towards certification with expert assistance. Support for these programs comes from Miller, Nash, Graham & Dunn LLP; Wanderwell; FMYI; and the City of Portland Mayor's Office. Since business clients 39 student consultants 7 clients achieved certification or recertification

Talks, Fellows, and Publications By leading talks, hosting fellows, and writing articles and cases, Impact Entrepreneurs supports the spread of innovative concepts and the development of future leaders. In , Impact Entrepreneurs hosted two international social entrepreneurship fellows from U.S. Department of State programs, and created a new B Impact PSU fellowship with support from Miller, Nash, Graham & Dunn LLP. Impact Entrepreneurs staff led a panel at the GoGreen PDX conference; sat on three panels and led a best practices workshop at the Ashoka U Exchange; sat on a panel and led a workshop at the Sullivan Faculty Summit; led a talk at the YNPN Activate! Summit; moderated a panel for OEN's PubTalk series; and coordinated numerous PSU events. Impact Entrepreneurs staff published two peer-reviewed articles in the past year, and academic cases written as part the student case writing program have now been used by more than 1700 students and faculty at multiple institutions around the world.

Training and Incubation Partnerships In 2017, Impact Entrepreneurs redesigned and relaunched the Social Innovation Incubator. Now delivered in partnership with PSU's Business Outreach Program, the incubator offers expert technical assistance to PSU students, alumni, faculty, and staff, with priority admission for women, minority, and low-income clients. Offering lifelong support for social entrepreneurs from the PSU community, the reimagined incubator offers another pathway for continued engagement after graduation. Training programs focus on high school teachers and students, helping students graduate and preparing them for success in higher education. A yearly workshop for high school teachers on business education best practices is funded by the Oregon Department of Education. PSU's Invention Bootcamp, funded by The Lemelson Foundation and delivered in partnership with PSU's Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, is an intensive summer program for high school students to learn about innovation and entrepreneurship by creating their own inventions.

Social Innovation Certificate This primarily-online program enrolls undergraduate students, graduate students, and community members in the same courses as they each create and refine their own idea for a new social venture, whether a business, nonprofit, or internal program. This year, every piece of content in the certificate was reviewed for diversity and representation, all courses exceeded the Quality Matters rubric for accessibility, and a consultant provided recommendations on effective inclusion and representation for the LGBTQ+ community Academic Year 28 graduate students Since graduate students undergrads community members undergrads community members 111 students 6 program graduates 301 students 25 program graduates
Graduate Spotlight Juliana Essen Chief Impact Officer National Peace Corps Association National Peace Corps Institute Designed in the Social Innovation Certificate, the Institute is a new initiative of the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA), a 501(c)(3) mobilizing over 225,000 individuals and more than 165 affiliate groups to champion lifelong commitment to Peace Corps ideals. The Institute advances NPCA s mission by building the Peace Corps community s capacity to create positive social change through research, training, and impact assessment. Without Impact Entrepreneurs' certificate program, there would be no National Peace Corps Institute. I ve had many promising social impact ideas that never made it off the page, or that faltered at the first obstacle. But the certificate courses pushed me out into the real world, where I had to talk to actual people about what they actually need a pivotal breakthrough. The high-quality business plan for the Institute that I developed as my final project helped me secure a position as NPCA s new Chief Impact Officer. In this position, I can ensure that the Institute lives up to its full impact potential. Juliana Essen CERTIFICATE 13
Mercy Corps Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) In partnership with Mercy Corps, the ELP builds leadership capacity and accelerates the impact of global and domestic mission-driven organizations. The ELP offers highly customized programs in business fundamentals, social innovation, and leadership effectiveness led by PSU School of Business faculty and expert consultants. Clients have included Mercy Corps, World Vision, Save the Children, Digital Divide Data, Ipas, Care, Kompanion Bank, and the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "To most of us, the ELP training initially seemed like a privilege, but a few days in, we realized that it is a responsibility and certainly not the other way round. Attending the training, visiting great places and being awarded a certificate is not enough. Bringing the learning back to the teams is most important as we build and nurture a new generation of leaders within Mercy Corps." 2017 cohort participant
