2 A Strategic Vision for the College of Nursing Mission The College of Nursing improves human health and quality of life for people in the state of South Dakota, the region, the nation, and the world. The College strives for excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research, scholarship, and health services to diverse individuals, communities, and populations across the life span. Vision To be a national leader in accessible and quality undergraduate and graduate nursing education and recognized across health disciplines, and to prospective students, alumni, and nursing leaders as innovative scholars and researchers who improve human health through strategic partnerships and interprofessional collaboration that shapes new delivery models of quality health care and nursing education. Recruit and retain highly qualified and diverse students across all educational programs and sites. b. Create seamless and accessible pathways to progress from one level of nursing education to the next. c. Design new specialty and dual track options for the Master of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. College of Nursing Strategic Plan 2

Recruit highly qualified faculty who are emerging scholars in nursing and interprofessional education innovation, health promotion for rural and underserved populations, and health care outcomes. e. Create learning approaches that focus on interprofessional education, innovative clinical education, and integration of technologies for patient care and instructional delivery. f. Grow faculty excellence through participation in advanced education, specialty certification, and professional development to build programs of research, translate research into clinical practice, and lead nursing and interprofessional education innovation. Goal 2: Achieve national recognition for collaborative nursing research that improves health outcomes, promotes health for rural and underserved populations, and transforms nursing and interprofessional health education. a. Enhance scholarly outcomes that focus on priority areas for collaborative nursing research. b. Expand the supportive infrastructure for quality collaborative nursing research and clinical innovation scholarship. c. Mentor graduate and undergraduate students who become recognized scholars in nursing research, translational science, and educational innovation. d. Recruit and retain faculty who achieve national recognition in their area of research. Goal 3: Cultivate partnerships within higher education, across diverse health organizations, and with communities of the state, region, and world, to assure quality education and to develop innovations that improve health and health care. a. Partner with health professions education programs, health service agencies, and community organizations to develop outcomes driven nursing and interprofessional education and transdisciplinary science. b. Collaborate with diverse partners to develop new models of accessible and quality healthcare. c. Partner with health care systems and organizations to develop new models for clinical education. d. Prepare a strong primary health care workforce for South Dakota and the nation through growth in rural health residency and clinical learning opportunities for nurse practitioner students. 4 Goal 4: Secure resources to assure quality learning environments that foster academic excellence, synergize research productivity, create support for students, and build strong alumni relationships. a. Assure high quality learning environments that provide the educational experiences necessary to achieve academic excellence across all programs and sites. b. Evaluate and redesign the fiscal operations of the College of Nursing to assure efficiency and effectiveness. c. Engage friends, alumni, and both private and corporate organizations to support and sustain academic excellence and research in the College of Nursing. d. Develop both Endowed and Enhanced Chairs to lead innovations in collaborative nursing research that improves health for rural and underserved populations, focuses on health care quality and outcomes, and drives innovation in nursing and interprofessional health education. e. Increase scholarship support to attract highly qualified students. f. Create the infrastructure to recruit and retain American Indian students to complete any of SDSU s nursing education programs. g.
