13 Division of Behavioral Health Services Office of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention (OADAP) Funded Prevention Services Population Served SFY 2009 by General Service Total Served M F Indian Asian Black Hawaiian White Workforce Development Workforce Development involves the training of prevention knowledge, skills, and abilities to those already involved in providing prevention services as well as those who are interested in providing prevention services. Workforce Development is provided at the local, regional, and state level dependent upon the type of training. These services are provided by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock MidSouth Summer School and Prevention Institute and the Arkansas Prevention Certification Board via contract. training services are provided through subgrants with the regional Prevention Resource Centers (PRCs). The target population is adults age who work in prevention, plan to work in prevention, or are interested in prevention in the home. Collegiate Consortium This is a statewide consortium of college and university representatives who strive to provide the most up-to-date prevention services on their respective campuses. This consortium also promotes the Core Survey among the colleges to assess the needs of the campuses to assist in prevention planning. Funding is provided via subgrant to the Arkansas Collegiate Drug Education Committee. The target populations are college/university freshmen primarily but services are also provided to other students. Recurring Curricula The programs are funded via subgrant and consist of providers that are replicating evidence-based models or in one case, a local program. For these, regularly scheduled sessions occur during the year. These are the only programs funded by QADAP Prevention Services that target youth only. The target populations consist of youth from age 2-17 and their families. Community Capacity Development Thirteen Regional Prevention Resource Centers (PRCs) strive to develop local county-based community antidrug coalitions so that the communities will be better able to prevent substance abuse at the local level. Development occurs as a result of team activities, technical assistance, and systematic planning to address local needs. The coalition membership is primarily adults from the community who are usually targeting youth. Many coalitions also encourage youth to take part in coalition activities Presentations

14 The PRC5 make presentations to local businesses, civic groups, PTA, human service agencies, etc. to provide prevention information. Two topics offocus are Drugs Don t Work and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Through these presentations the PRCs hope to make substance abuse issues more relevant within their communities. The PRCs will also prepare presentations on special topics as requested by the public. The target population is generally adults age but youth can be targeted under special circumstances. Materials Disseminated 917,645 Brochures, pamphlets, etc. The PRC5 make prevention information available to their communities in a variety of ways. They attend and host booths at health fairs, workplace fairs, and other types of gatherings to disseminate prevention information. They also provide materials to their local school districts for their libraries and for distribution to the students.
