1 the hub your community action centre Funding Bulletin May 2018 FUNDING WITH CLOSING DATES John Watson s Trust This scheme provides support for educational purposes to children and young people under the age of 21 who have a physical or learning disability, or who are socially disadvantaged. Grants are available to individuals or organisations working with eligible children and young people. Although the trust operates primarily within Edinburgh and the Lothian s, grants may be awarded Scotland wide depending on each individual case. Deadline: 31st May 2018 Max Grant: 2,000 Link: Fidelio Charitable Trust This scheme aims to help individuals and groups of exceptional ability who would not be able to carry out an artistic project or activity without financial support, particularly those who are at an early stage in their careers. Deadline: 1st June 2018 Max Grant: 5,000 Link: The Hilden Charitable Fund This scheme provides financial support for disadvantaged communities around the UK to help run short-term activities for local young people. Each year the charitable fund allocates a small budget to help community groups run summer play schemes for the benefit of disadvantaged children aged five to 18 years in the UK. Grants of between 500 and 1,500 to support the following: Summer play schemes for children aged five to 18 years. Local schemes lasting for two to six weeks. Schemes with strong volunteer support. Some priority will be given to projects that show they are inclusive of children from refugee families and show involvement of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups. Deadline: 14th June 2018 Max Grant: 5,000 Link: Help the Homeless Grant Scheme This scheme provides capital grants for small and mediumsized charities in the UK working to assist homeless people to rebuild their lives and return to the community. Deadline: 14th June 2018 Max Grant: 5,000 Link: Hospital Saturday Fund This scheme provides grant funding to registered health charities such as hospitals, hospices and medical organisations for medical projects, care, research or support of medical training taking place in the United Kingdom. Deadline: 18th June 2018 Max Grant: 10,000 Link: Greggs Foundation Environmental Grants This scheme provides grant funding for not-for-profit organisations and schools in Great Britain for projects which make a difference to local areas, with preference given to projects that involve or benefit people who are disadvantaged Deadline: 22nd June 2018 Max Grant: 2,000 Link: Comic Relief s Safe, Secure Settled Fund One Month Left to Apply Groups that are considering applying to the 4 million Safe, Secure and Settled Fund have until 14 June to get their application in. Comic Relief continues to accept proposals from not-for-profit organisations to support projects that are using sport to improve the lives of children and young people (up to 25 years) who are homeless or living in temporary accommodation to gain skills to lead safe and positive lives. Grants of between 100,000 and 500,000 are available to cover a period of between two and four years. Projects should take a creative approach, use sport as a tool for social change in their approach and contribute to at least one of the following outcomes: Children and young people increase and/or sustain their engagement with education. Children and young people have increased pathways into training or employment. More children and young people have a safe and supportive network or trusted place to go for advice. Page 2 of 10
3 Children and young people increase life skills, for example money management, daily living skills, legal rights, problem solving, creative thinking, communication, interpersonal relationships, mindfulness, assertiveness, empathy, coping with stress, trauma and loss, resilience. Proposals will need to: Go above and beyond confidence building and be able to demonstrate how sport can be used to achieve positive social change. Demonstrate wider social outcomes and not just focus on increasing participation in sport for the physical health benefits. Please note that applications that are made earlier in the process may be reviewed before the deadline of midday on 14 June Rosa Voices from the Frontline This scheme supports women s organisations fighting for gender equality in the UK, by resourcing advocacy and activists with lived experience of disadvantage. It offers grants to support charitable advocacy work, leadership and representation, safety, health and economic justice. Funding can be used to pay for increasing the skills, capacity, credibility and effectiveness of women who wish to challenge gender inequality and promote awareness and change. Deadline: 22nd June 2018 Max Grant: 2,000 Link: Elephant Trust This scheme is available to artists, small organisations and galleries within the UK to make it possible for artists and those presenting their work to undertake and complete projects when frustrated by lack of funds. Allen Charitable Trust This scheme provides grants to UK registered charities for work that addresses the Trust s areas of interest which are the environment, wildlife and animals; medical conditions, research, and hospitals; and heritage buildings Deadline: 29th June 2018 Max Grant: Discretionary Link: Scotch Whisky Action Fund Tackling Alcohol Related Harm This scheme aims to invest in groups and organisations that wish to reduce the impact of alcohol-related harm in Scotland s communities. 4 Scotland. It Funds charities under the headings of animal welfare; child / adult welfare; medical research; local community projects; HM services personnel; sea rescue; and overseas appeals. Deadline: 2nd July 2018 Max Grant: 40,000 Link: The Dan Maskell Tennis Trust This scheme provides grants to help disabled people in the UK to play tennis through the purchase of wheelchairs, tennis equipment and grants for coaching. Deadline: 2nd July 2018 Max Grant: 1,500 Link: Comic Relief Tackling Violence against Women and Girls This scheme aims to support organisations that are working to end violence and abuse experienced by women and girls across the UK. This funding initiative will focus on meeting the needs of women who are at risk or experiencing violence and who have multiple and complex needs, such as poor mental health, substance misuse, those who are homeless, or from less well-served communities or groups such as BAMER (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee) and LBTI (Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex) communities, or women who are older and/or disabled. Not-for-profit women s organisations based and operating within the UK can apply. The funding can be used for core and/or project costs. However to be eligible, proposals must be exclusively focused on women with multiple and complex needs and aims to: Enable organisations to better support women within the target groups. Showcase how women s lived experience can inform the design and delivery of services, practice and policy. Provide opportunities for projects to try out new ways and models of working, for example by acting earlier, building community assets or using digital Page 4 of 10
5 approaches. Enable cross sector partnerships to work together to provide high quality support. Support approaches that can provide learning for other organisations and stakeholders across the sector. Improve access to support for women with complex needs in less well-served communities, such as BAMER, older women, LBTI, disabled women. The deadline for receipt of applications is midday on midday on 2 July Link: National Churches Trust s Community Grants Accepting Applications Funding for projects which introduce facilities to enable increased community use of places of worship in the UK, Isle of Man and Channel Islands. The National Churches Trust offers funding for projects that are in line with the aims of the Trust which are to: Help maintain the UK's heritage of church buildings and to enhance their ability to serve local communities. Promote the benefit to communities of church buildings and to inspire everyone to value and enjoy them. The Community Grants programme offers grants of between 5,000 and 25,000 towards the cost of capital works (additions and extensions) and the introduction of facilities, such as accessible toilets and catering facilities. Projects must have an estimated cost of at least 25,000 (including VAT and fees) and have already raised 50% of the total project cost. Applicants can also be considered for a National Churches Trust Micro-Grant in Partnership with the Cinnamon Network. These are additional 2,000 micro-grants available to successful applicants to set up a Cinnamon Network Recognised Project that meets the needs of local people. The micro-grants allow churches to set up new social action projects such as CAP Money Courses, Make Lunch and Parish Nursing. Successful churches will also be able to access the support and training provided by Cinnamon Network s regional Advisers and Trainers. It does not fund existing projects.the deadline for Community Grant applications is 2 July Bank of Scotland Foundation Medium Grants Programme This scheme provides grants for charities registered in Scotland to develop and improve local communities and financial literacy and financial inclusion. Deadline: 6th July 2018 Max Grant: 25,000 Link: Bank of Scotland Foundation Small Grants Programme This scheme provides grants for charities registered in Scotland to develop and improve local communities. Deadline: 6th July 2018 Max Grant: 25,000 Link: Lintel Trust General Grant Programme This scheme distributes support to projects with a housing focus that will deliver positive outcomes for beneficiaries in Scotland. Their aims include: older people are more able to remain in their homes and live independently; increased digital participation by older people including access to the internet and the skills to make the most of digital platforms; life circumstances of older people are improved; people from black and minority ethnic communities have improved opportunities to participate fully Page 5 of 10
6 in community life; reduce the impact of homelessness and improve opportunities for homeless people with a particular focus on single person households; and disabled people have improved opportunities to participate and to live independently and engage fully in community life; improve the mental health and wellbeing of individuals. The next deadlines for receipt of applications are 20 July and 19 October Link: Ironmongers Company This scheme provides grant for projects in the UK that provide opportunities for disadvantaged children and young people under the age of 25 years to fulfil their potential. Deadline: 20th July 2018 Max Grant: 2,000 Link: organisations.htm Radcliffe Trust This scheme provides funding for UK registered charities working in the areas of music, especially chamber music, composition and music education, and heritage and crafts. Deadline: 31st July 2018 Max Grant: 5,000 Link: The Anchor Foundation This scheme supports Christian charities concerned with social inclusion particularly through ministries of healing and the arts. No grants are given to individuals and only in exceptional circumstances will grants be given for building work. Only projects which are Christian led are funded. The next deadline for receipt of applications is 31 July Link: Woodward Charitable Trust next deadline 31st July The Trust s grant-making focuses on the following areas: Children and young people who are isolated, at risk of exclusion or involved in antisocial behaviour. Prisoners and ex-offenders. Projects that help the rehabilitation and resettlement of prisoners and/or exoffenders are supported as well as requests to help prisoners families. Disadvantaged women, covering refuges, domestic violence and parenting. Disability projects, which can include rehabilitation and training for people who are either physically disabled or learning disabled. Arts outreach work by local groups involving disadvantaged people. Projects that promote integration and community cohesion amongst minority groups, including refugees and travellers. More here. Baily Thomas Charitable Fund This scheme provides grants to voluntary organisations and charities in the UK to assist with the care and relief of those affected by learning disability in the UK. Deadline: 1st August 2018 Max Grant: Discretionary Link: Marc Fitch Fund This scheme provides grants for individuals and organisations in the UK for research and publications whose primary focus is on regional and local history within the British Isles. Deadline: 31st August 2018 Max Grant: 25,000 Link: William and Jane Morris Fund (Church Conservation Grants) This scheme provides grants to churches, chapels and other places of worship in the UK for the conservation of decorative features and monuments, but not structural repairs. Deadline: 31st August 2018 Max Grant: 5,000 Link: FUNDING WITH NO CLOSING DATES The Michael Tippett Musical Foundation This scheme s single priority is the development of group music making, especially involving young people in projects incorporating composition and creative ideas. Grants awarded will be made towards creative musical activity, not instruments or equipment. The trustees Page 7 of 10
8 normally hold one meeting a year, in the autumn. Therefore projects for consideration should be planned well ahead and not start earlier than December 2018 There are no published deadlines. Donating tickets, tours, signed merchandise and souvenir packs can make a huge difference to local fundraisers. 9 make a difference to the lives of older people and other adults with a physical or mental disability; supporting practical solutions that lead to increased personal independence, self-sufficiency and dignity. This year the focus is on connecting or re-connecting people with others in their local community. Link: Lawrence Atwell s Charity This scheme provides grants for young people (aged 16 to 26 years) from low-income backgrounds, to help them gain vocational, accredited qualifications so that they can move into employment. The Charity aims to help young people free themselves from poverty and disadvantage by heading into the job they want. The maximum grant available is 1,500. To be eligible, applicants must be: Aged 16 to 26 years (on the date that their course starts). A British citizen, asylum seeker or refugee, or have lived in the UK for three years. Taking an accredited, vocational training course up to level 3. From a low income household (this will depend on the household s total after tax annual income). In addition, priority will be given to applicants with: Fewer existing qualifications. Little or no past working experience. Lower income households. There are no published deadlines. More here. Action Earth Grants For 2018 Volunteering Matters Action Earth empowers people in Scotland to take action and improve their local environment through volunteering. Any group of volunteers can apply for Volunteering Matters Action Earth grants of between to run environmental activities in Scotland s green spaces. This could include creating or improving community gardens, wildflower meadows, ponds or woodlands. More here. Creative Scotland: Nurturing Talent - Time to Shine Fund Funding to support the artistic and creative ideas of young people aged 11 to 25. They want to award funding to young people that show ambition, enthusiasm or talent in their chosen art form and require some financial support to develop or promote this further. Funding may also be awarded to those who face significant barriers to access, such as rural isolation or additional support requirements. More here. Scottish Government Vote Centenary Small Grant Scheme Grants for local activities in Scotland which will celebrate and increase people s awareness of the women s suffrage movement. Maximum value: 5,000. The funding is for activities in Scotland that celebrate and commemorate the passing of the Representation of the People Act 1918 and to look forward to the future and how to best support women s political participation in Scotland.
