2 There is up to 5,000 available to help your local community-based organisations METROPOLITAN MIGRATION FOUNDATION Who we are The Metropolitan Migration Foundation is hosted within Metropolitan, a national organisation providing housing, community regeneration, care and support services. The Foundation has guardianship of a legacy from the former Refugee Housing Association which became part of Metropolitan in The legacy is to be used to help migrants and the communities they live in, including people who are refugees and asylum seekers. Metropolitan was set up in the 1950s with the original aim of providing good quality, affordable housing for immigrants from the West Indies. Today, Metropolitan provides a diverse range of services to over 80,000 customers across London, the East of England, South Yorkshire and the East Midlands. Working in diverse communities, we aim to create opportunities and to be a force for positive change. Our target geographical areas are those regions where Metropolitan currently works in: London, East of England, East Midlands and South Yorkshire. igration foundation

3 METROPOLITAN MIGRATION FOUNDATION Organisation eligibility Organisations that may be eligible for funding are: Voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises registered in the UK as a charity, Industrial and Provident Society, a company that is not-forprofit, Community Interest Company (CIC) or unincorporated not-for-profit association. Unincorporated associations must have: A written governing document (e.g. constitution, set of rules or trust deed). At least three unrelated people on the governing body or management committee. Organisations that have a UK-based bank account in the name of the organisation and financial procedures that require at least two people who are unrelated and do not live at the same address to sign cheques or make a withdrawal (including debit card or internet purchases and cash withdrawals). We can also support strategic projects outside our target geographical areas WHAT WE CAN T FUND Activities that happen before we confirm our grant. Projects that cannot be completed within 12 months. Any request for funding above 5,000. Projects that don t work with migrants, their households and the communities they live in (a migrant refers to a person born outside the UK whose residence can be temporary or permanent). 4 The primary goal of the Metropolitan Migration Foundation is to encourage creative and constructive responses to migration to the UK. Grants can be requested up to a maximum of 5,000 in one of our five priority funding areas. METROPOLITAN MIGRATION FOUNDATION What we fund 1. Creating a Migrant Voice/Advocacy Creating a Migrant Voice means supporting migrants and migrant-led organisations to have their views heard, to participate in civic society and to make a constructive contribution to public discourse. Advocacy means both advice and guidance at an individual level to help someone gain their rights as well as lobbying, campaigning and issue-based work to try to influence institutional practice and government policy. We are particularly interested in supporting partnership working amongst organisations that provide advice and support, and legal advice provision where significant wider benefit is demonstrated (e.g. major points of principle are at stake). 2. English Language We wish to support projects that give access to and provide innovative and cost-effective forms of ESOL tuition, particularly through the use of volunteers. 3. Housing This funding priority covers all sectors (private rented, housing association, local authority and owner occupation) as well as the role of housing providers in finding solutions to issues they face among their tenants and local community. Improving the quality of private rented housing, developing housing solutions for single asylum seekers and refugees and working with housing providers to address conflicts in communities are key funding aims. igration foundation

Employment and Skills Developing vocational skills, promoting the employability of migrants, and supporting migrants in both securing employment and entrepreneurship are central to migrant community development. The purpose of this funding priority is to support social enterprise development among migrant groups, to support access to affordable childcare (as this increases carers access to training and jobs) and to promote understanding among employers of the contribution that migrants can make and the recognition of foreign qualifications and experience. 5. Trafficking This includes migrants trafficked for prostitution and domestic servitude as well as low waged, undocumented workers including those in the catering industries, agriculture, begging, criminal gangs etc. The aim of this funding priority is to promote awareness of trafficking among housing providers and other agencies and encourage active responses to prevent trafficking. The grant will be open to voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises registered in the UK SMALL GRANTS

6 METROPOLITAN MIGRATION FOUNDATION Application process Submit completed applications: a. By the deadline. Application deadlines are: 30 November 2012, 1 February 2013, 5 April 2013, 7 June 2013, 2 August 2013 and 4 October b. At least three months before your project is due to start. If the application is not complete, it will be returned and you will have 10 working days to send the missing information. If we have additional questions, we will contact you to have a discussion to learn more about your project. We will make a decision on your application and notify you within 8 weeks of the application deadline. If the application is successful, you will have 15 working days from the date of the conditional offer letter to accept the Terms and Conditions and provide any supporting documents (see back cover). The conditional offer may be withdrawn if you do not do this. Rejected applications will receive basic feedback. We will check what you send to us and contact you within 15 working days. If satisfactory, we will write to confirm the grant. If not satisfactory, we may contact you if we think it is resolvable or we may withdraw the conditional grant offer. You start the project. You complete the project within 12 months and provide a short evaluation to reflect on the project outcomes. igration foundation

7 Additional documents to be sent with application form Latest copy of your approved annual accounts signed and dated by the Chair, Secretary or Treasurer and by your auditor or independent examiner, as applicable. For new organisations, 12 month financial projections are required. Copy of governing document, constitution or set of rules. Contact details of an independent referee (from an organisation known to you, not including Metropolitan). Policies and insurance If you are applying for funding for a project working with children, young people or vulnerable adults, you must have a policy which explains how you will make sure that they will be safe. It is your responsibility to have acceptable safeguarding policies and procedures in place which we may ask to inspect at any time if we offer you a grant. Depending on the type of project, you may need public liability insurance or qualified leaders. It is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate insurance in place. This should include cover for any assets you buy or events and activities you run using our grant. We may ask to look at these policies at any time. Any fees charged by your bank or building society are your responsibility and you cannot reclaim it from us. Three consecutive pages of original bank (or building society) statements. The most recent page must be less than three months old. Where building society passbooks are used, three consecutive pages may be required to be certified by the building society with a stamp and signature as true copies of the original. It must include your most recent transactions and account details. If your organisation has been running for less than three months we will need all the original statements you have (or certified copies of all the pages from your building society passbook that have transactions on them). We will also need an original letter from your bank or building society showing your account details and when the account was opened. This also applies to new groups that have been running for more than three months but have received less than three statements.
