1 Funding Guide for Clubs in Wales Version 1.0 (August 2015)

2 Introduction This document is designed to help clubs in Wales to potential funding streams and grants available to them. This is not an exhaustive list and clubs should also be aware of the potential of Local Authorities and local funding opportunities which may arise on a regular basis. Funding Tips Some tips to consider before, during and after applying for funding: Thoroughly discuss the idea with your club, key club members and potentially the club committee. If you can, in advance, discuss the idea with the funding body. Check club constitution to make sure it is aligned to governing documents support paper. Gather quotes/prices. Include VAT, ground work, etc. Involve a range of individuals to help write the application. Your local Club Network Officer can also assist you with your funding application ( and may be able to offer further tips and advice when completing the forms. If possible, submit a draft application to the funding body for feedback (note: you may need to ask permission to ensure they will accept this). Make relevant changes and submit. Also note that some funding bodies will take into account club bank accounts and make appropriate adjustments to the award granted. Welsh Athletics Grassroots Development Grant Fund The fund is available to all clubs that are fully affiliated to Welsh Athletics. Please note that clubs that have previously been allocated funds through this grant system are NOT eligible for further funding until a Project Evaluation Form has been fully completed and returned to Welsh Athletics. Key features: Grants up to a maximum of 1000 per application may be awarded. Projects that encourage club development that look to increase membership will be given priority. In addition, clubs that have completed Welsh Athletics Clubmark Accreditation will be given higher priority. Clubs are encouraged to source grants through other funding streams before making an application to this fund. For example; projects that could have otherwise have been funded through Sport Wales Community Chest grants (e.g. coach, volunteer, official s education, new introductory junior activities) will only be considered by the panel if this funding stream has been utilised.

3 Sport Wales Community Chest This funding is distributed by Sport Wales. The maximum award that a club can apply for at any one time is 1,500. Grants are awarded for projects that; increase participation and improve standards. Any group or club that holds a bank account in their organisation's name, including; Sports Clubs or Associations, Youth Clubs and Community Groups. How To Apply: Community Chest is run partnership with the 22 local authorities across Wales so you need to download an application form from the Sport Wales website (link below) and then submit it to your local authority contact, along with a copy of your clubs bank statement. Note: Before completing your application form, please ensure that you read the scheme guidance notes (also available on the Sport Wales website, link below) for further details and for all your contact information. Sport Wales Development Grant Sport Wales Development Grants are available to fund projects that develop sport and physical activity in the community. Grants are available between 1,501 and 25,000 for a wide range of projects. These project may include; Coach Education, Floodlighting for training purposes, Purchase of land or rights in land to develop activity areas, Start up grants to support new enterprises. This grant is available to any group as long as they hold a bank account in the organisation's name. How To Apply: Application forms are available from the Sport Wales website (link below) and should be submitted to your local Sport Wales Regional Office. It is advisable, prior to completing the application form, to contact your nearest regional office to your project. Also ensure that you read the scheme guidance notes (also available on the Sport Wales website, link below) for further details and for all your contact information.

4 Run Wales parkrun Funding Welsh Athletics, in partnership with Sport Wales has secured funding to support the development of parkrun activities throughout Wales. For information in relation to this funding please contact Welsh Athletics directly. T: or E: Additional information relating directly to parkrun can be found on the park run website: Awards for All Awards for All provides voluntary and community groups with a quick and easy way to get small National Lottery grants of between 500 and 5,000 for projects which aim to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need. The programme encourages a wide range of community, health, educational and environmental projects. The programme will fund projects which support community activity, extend access and participation, increase skill and creativity or generally improve the quality of life of people in their area. You can only apply to Awards for All if you are a community group, not for profit group, Community or Town Council, Health body or school. You do not need to be a registered charity to apply for Awards for All. What Can You Apply For? Putting on an event, activity or performance. Buying new equipment or materials. Running training courses. Setting up a pilot project or starting up a new group. Educational toys and games and information technology equipment. Paying expenses for volunteers, costs for sessional workers or professional fees. Transport costs and refurbishment. 5 People and Places People and Places will fund capital and revenue projects that encourage co-ordinated action by people who want to make their communities better places to live. It supports local and regional projects throughout Wales that focus on: Revitalising communities. Improving community relationships. Enhancing local environments, community services and buildings. The main aim is to bring people together to create improvements for communities and the lives of people most in need. Project need to be community led helping people to develop the skills and confidence to become more involved in their community is an integral aspect of this programme. You will need to clearly evidence the need for your project and explain the needs and issues faced by your community. In particular you should include: Evidence of research, local or national strategies etc. Evidence of consultation with beneficiaries, stakeholders and other organisations. The outcome of your research and consultation and how your project will address the issues highlighted. Voluntary, community or public sector organisations either working separately or together. Applications are accepted from organisations based anywhere in the UK. However, projects must mainly benefit people in Wales. Organisations should be able to demonstrate that they are aware of social and policy issues that are relevant to Wales, the local area and the project. Application forms, guidance notes and series of supporting documents can be found on the People and Places website (link below). The Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust Grant Scheme Funding Funding is available to voluntary, not-for-profit and charitable organisations. The grant scheme focuses on four key areas: sport, environment, the arts and the community. Although all organisations will be considered on their merit, priority will be given to organisations that provide for people who are disadvantaged by age, gender, disability, ethnicity or social and economic

6 circumstance. Maximum grant: Local organizations 2,000; regional organisations 10,000; national organizations 20,000. Biffa Awards Organisations can apply for this award if they are looking to set up a project under the four main themes: Community building Rebuilding biodiversity Cultural facilities Recreation There are both small grant and main grants that can be awarded. The small grant is 250-5,000 and the main grant is 5,000-50,000. Biffa Award awards grants to projects that are within a certain distance of an active Biffa operation. Both the Main Grants Community and Small Grants funding schemes require an active Biffa operation to be within 7 miles of the project site. However, if you're applying under the Main Grants Biodiversity theme, the radius is extended to within 15 miles. Cash 4 Clubs Cash 4 Clubs is a sports funding scheme which gives clubs a unique chance to apply for grants to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, gain coaching qualifications, and generally invest in the sustainability of their club. It's a flexible way to get some help for your club or team. The Cash 4 Clubs scheme is funded by Betfair and is supported by SportsAid, the charity for sports people.

7 How To Apply: Clubs can apply for a Cash 4 Clubs Sports Grant by filling out the application form which can be found on the Cash 4 Clubs website (link below). What Grants Are Available? There are four tiers of grants at 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 which are awarded on a discretionary basis. Any sports club can apply as long as they are registered with their sports National Governing Body or local authority. Comic Relief Comic Relief currently has a number of different grant schemes across the UK all looking to support organisations who have the people, ideas and ability to tackle complex problems and create positive social change across the UK. Funding themes include; Better Futures, Healthier Finances, Safer Lives, Stronger Communities and Fairer Societies. Relating to all UK Grants, what projects Comic relief will fund, the investment priorities, the process of funding allocation and exactly how to apply can all be found on the Comic Relief website (link below). Sport Relief Sport Relief is a Comic Relief programme aimed at using sport as a means to bring young people together. The grant is distributed through the Community Foundation in Wales. Maximum grant: 5,000. Can be found using the links below. Community Foundation in Wales: Sport Relief:

8 Easyfundraising Easyfundraising is a way to raise money for good causes such as schools, charities, sports clubs, religious groups, community groups and more, simply by shopping online. It is a free fundraising service and there are many well known stores that use easy fundraising. How It Works? Clubs will need to register as a good cause. When this is complete, individuals shopping through the site will donate a percentage (up to 15%) of what is spent to your club. Peoples Health Trust Active Communities Active Communities is a funding programme for community groups and not-for-profit organisations, The aim of this programme is to help with improvement in health and well being and will ensure community participation. Who Can Apply For Funding? You can apply for Active Communities funding if: You are non-profit. Your income is less than 350,000 a year, or an average of 350,000 over two years. You have less than six months annual running costs in savings (with no restrictions on the money) after you have deducted the grant you wish to request. Your organisation is constituted and is more than three months old

9 JustGiving Crowdfunding JustGiving Crowdfunding is one of the largest online fundraising communities who are now able to offer these tools to clubs with community amateur sport club status. The benefits of these funds are you are able to raise money easily, quickly and efficiently. Guidelines and full details of how to register are available on the Just Giving website (link below). The Dickie Bird Foundation The Dickie Bird Foundation provides support for individuals and organisations throughout Great Britain with the aim of helping disadvantaged young people (under the age of 18) to participate in sport, to the best of their ability, in the sport of their choice, irrespective of their social circumstances, culture or ethnicity. Maximum grant: 5,000. Including guidelines and application forms can be found on the foundation website (link below). Peter Harrison Foundation The Foundation s Opportunities through Sport programme accepts applications from projects which provide opportunities for people who are disabled or otherwise disadvantaged to fulfil their potential and to develop other personal and life skills. This Programme is a nationwide one and applications are accepted from charities throughout the United Kingdom. Grants are often one off grants for capital projects but the Foundation also considers revenue funding for a new project or if funding is key to the continuing success or survival of an established project.

10 The Lord s Taverners The Lord's Taverners is the UK's leading youth cricket and disability sports charity dedicated to giving disadvantaged and disabled young people a sporting chance. Although their sporting roots are within cricket they also support a range of other sports. The Lord s Taverners enable young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with disabilities to enjoy sport. Their mission is to enhance the lives of disadvantaged and disabled young people through sport and recreation and support some of the most marginalised and at risk young people in the UK. What Is Supported? Projects that; Increase opportunities for regular participation Motivate young people to engage in sport Improve health, social and psychological wellbeing Empower volunteers, coaches and teachers to deliver training sessions Peoples Postcode Lottery Trust The Peoples Postcode Lottery Trust operate a Small Grants Programme to try to make the world a better place through short-term, designated funding for projects that embody the advancement of citizenship or community development. The Torch Trophy Trust The Torch Trophy Trust is a charity that rewards, recognises and supports volunteers in sport and recreation. They offer bursaries and recognise the achievements of some of the UK's most outstanding volunteers in the annual Torch Trophy Trust Awards.

11 Welsh Sports Association The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is an independent body that represents and supports all of the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport and physical recreation in Wales. The WSA provides a range of services and produce a large number of documents, templates and links on useful topics, including discounts, legal assistance and training. WSA Home Page: WSA Funding Page: WCVAs Grant Finder Tool WCVA has subscribed to GRANTnet, a free basic online funding search that can help identify suitable funding opportunities for your activity or project. Clubs will need to register, after this you can search for funding opportunities and use the filters to find the appropriate grants.
