RG TECHNICAL COMMITTEE Minutes of Meeting held on the 27 th October 2014 No. ITEM DETAILS ACTION 1.0 Attendance Erica Morrissey (EM), Conor Rawlins (CR), Nikki Gillam (NG), Melissa Read (MR), Krasi Yurukova (KY), Carol Worth (CW), Karen Gilgallon (KG), Karyn Murray (KM), Tania Shillington 2.0 Apologies Viktor Markov (VM) 3.0 Acceptance of Accepted NG Previous Minutes 4.0 Business Arising from Previous Minutes Seconded KY 4.1 Schools NG /CW/KG to set up meeting with Adelaide Jackson (GWA) 4.2 Introduction of Freehand in L3 6 RG TC wants to put freehand routines into competition for level 3-6. Issue is that this is only possible at WA events if it an additional apparatus and does not replace an existing one. However, having an additional apparatus creates increased session length at competitions, which is not practical. Suggestion from KY that if music length is set at the minimum requirements instead of the maximum (i.e. 60 secs for L3&4, 75 secs for L5&6) that this would potentially create the time for a fourth apparatus rotation. KM suggested that a Board Proposal may be required in order to do this, but would check with GWA and inform TC accordingly. NG/ CW / KG to set up a meeting with Adelaide Jackson (GWA) KM to confirm if proposal is required from TC 5.0 For Decision Making KY and CR to put together a submission to the board if required Calendar Planning Events & Education 2014 Event Dates discussed and the following was placed on the calendar template: - RG QC #1 7/8 March - RG QC #2 28/29 March - RG Loftus Challenge 8/9 August CR & KY to do submission before next board meeting (Nov) MR to place dates on template and confirm with GWA RG_TC_(Month)_Minutes_2014 1

- RG Judges Invitational 22/23 August Discussion led by KM regarding the creation of a multiples event scheduled towards the end of the year. Suggestion had been already by Peel Dynamic about this, as the timing of the current multiples competition does not allow for maximum participation, as athletes often have to choose between individuals and multiples. TC agreed to trial this for 2015 and placed a multiples competition on November 22. Education Dates discussed for 2014 and the following courses were suggested: - RG L7 10 Workshop 8 February - RG Beginner Course 9 May & 28 June - RG Intermediate Course 27/28 June MR to place dates on template and confirm with GWA 5.2 Technical Regulations & Event Handbook final review Technical Regulations Further edits were made, with the rearranging of the Annual Awards section, the removal of qualification scores for State Championships for Group and the discussions surrounding the inclusion of FX in L3-6. MR to circulate final draft out to TC members for approval prior to the draft being sent out to clubs. Event Handbook Group Team Gymnastics to be re-named as Freehand Group. Multiples to be removed from Spring State Championships. Additional event page to be added for the new Multiples Event in November. MR to make final edits and send both document drafts out to RG TC ASAP. 5.3 Stephanie Schahinger GWA Technical Membership request KM raised the point that Steph has requested to register as a WA judge for 2015 (she is currently a SA technical member). Steph is willing to attend all state team trainings and qualification competitions at her own cost. KM queried whether the RG TC would be in support of Steph s request. RG TC is happy to support Steph registering with Gymnastics WA. SA Executive Director will now be contacted by GWA regarding approval of this request. GWA to inform RG TC of outcome. 6.0 For Discussion 6.1 GA Advisory Meeting General Feedback CB presented and discussed with the TC her report from the recent GA Advisory Meeting in Melbourne. 3 6.1.2 Changes to the ALP Manual is currently being reviewed and will be officially released at the camp in Adelaide in December RG Skools Was raised at the meeting, with all states agreeing that the current manual needs review. From a WA perspective, it was discussed that a schools working group be established (Schools Committee members, with assistance from key coaches) to put together a manual for WA schools to use instead of the current manual. Teacher PD is also a priority. KM suggested to TC that they set a deadline of 31 st January 2015 for new manual content to be completed so schools will have sufficient time to prepare. 6.2 GWA Annual Awards Award nominations are due 14 November, MR provided an overview of each category. Was resolved that thee following TC members will prepare the draft nomination forms: - KY will complete the Athlete and International Representation nominations - NG will complete the Coaching Award nomination forms - CR will complete the Judging Award nomination forms - CW will complete the Award of Merit nominations 6.3 GWA Awards Night Video Not discussed due to time restraints Working Group to be established and new manual to be ready by 31 st Jan deadline. TC members to circulate nominees via prior to completing nomination form. MR to raise via 7.0 For Noting 7.1 Technical Director Report - Attended Gymsports meeting in September there was a webinar with Adi Glancy from GA on the changes to the Coach Accreditation Framework - Judge fining system was discussed at length and recommendations provided at the meeting were submitted to the GWA Board at their September meeting. MR & KM advised that feedback from the Board would be given back to the Technical Directors and Judging Co-ordinators at the upcoming Gymsports Meeting on November Coaching Co-ordinator Report n/a 7.3 Judging Co-ordinator Report See Attached 7.4 Event Co-ordinator Report RG_TC_October_Minutes_2014 3

Report tabled and noted Concerns raised re the display TV in the RG hall appears faulty. Discussion on the Event Summary process, with CW concerned that she is not receiving this feedback from the GWA Event Officer. MR to follow up with GWA office. TC also raised their concerns about the safety risk with the entry door in Hall 2, when two people attempt to open the door at the same time. Suggestion that a window needs to be inserted into the door to reduce the risk of injury and also to assist users with being able to enter and exit the hall without disrupting an athletes performance. MR to pass feedback on to GWA to check TV s are working properly. MR to follow up with GWA Event Officer MR to raise issue with GWA further. 7.5 Elite Liaison Report n/a 7.6 GWA Gymsport Section Report See attached. MR provided data on athlete and spectator numbers for the JI and Loftus Challenge comps for the past four years. The TC made the following observations: Athlete numbers may have increased as a result of the increase publicity following the Olympic and Commonwealth Games; Introduction of Aesthetic Group has increased athlete numbers and results in more spectators; TC noted increased support within clubs i.e. athletes from other levels coming to watch their club members compete. MR to pass feedback onto GWA 8.0 Meeting Closed 11:20pm Seattle Cup Invitational ( ed out to clubs) 7.8 RGA Transfer Request Roseanna Ebert ( ed out to clubs) 7.9 RG National Camp Information ( ed out to clubs) 7.10 GNSW Gymsport Clinic Information 9.0 Next Meeting Final for RG Forum to be held in January RG_TC_October_Minutes_2014 4

Stats for FY13/14: o Beginner coaches 1753 o Intermediate RG coaches 0 o Int Bronze RG coaches 56 Indicates beginners are not progressing to intermediate either due to minimum age requirement (16yo) or courses being cancelled. GA are looking at providing special circumstances when there are low numbers of course participants to enable some level of mentoring or education to occur. Minimum accreditation new ASC Sporting Schools program is intermediate. Skills matrix is being updated Commission is looking to form a working group to update the RG matrix. Focus is education not accreditation Judging Need to encourage people to become course presenters currently no intention to have a GA accreditation system. Judging course pass marks (average across practical and theory): o Intermediate 70% o Int Bronze 75% o Advanced 80% o Advanced Silver - 85% Resits theory paper to be redone in test environment. Practical to be performed at a competition with at least 15 routines assessment against the base score of the panel needs to be in 0.6 range for majority of routines being assessed Advisory - RG.docx 24/10/2014 Created by C Rawlins

FIG Code of Points ALP Amendments to the CoP are now on the FIG website. Judges must do an updating workshop on changes to be able to judge at qualifying trials and Nationals: o Will be run at December camp in Adelaide with Teresa Evans o Karyn Murray will be able to deliver workshop in Perth Manual is currently under revision. Level 1-6: Commission intended the ALP to be delivered by the States therefore States are free to alter the manual to suit their requirements, provided the general intent is maintained. This includes adding additional or changing apparatus rotations for each level, or splitting levels into age groups etc. Schools Program Schools are interested in dance programs not so in WA? Means of getting RG into schools. Other states run a separate schools program (often through school associations, not the state gymnastics association, and use a modified version of the ALP. RGA raffle 26/8/2014 Go for 2&5 Interschool Completed No report Challenge 11/9/2014 Go for 2&5 Spring States Completed Current Event Organisation/ Next Event(s): Calendar for 2015 Event Report(s): RG Loftus Challenge Warm up area and competition area needed vacuuming. Floor raised along centre seam posing trip hazard. Some volunteers did not turn up and were replaced either from same club or from RGA. Worksheet did not specify Gold or Silver groups and American warm up only listing club and apparatus made it hard for announcer to follow. Some L1 and 2 found athletes doing different routines next to them to same music confusing. Judge looking at scoring screen constantly whilst putting in scores is not good impression for audience Audience leaving and entering during routines should be discouraged RG Judges Invitational No Event Report available. Comment that if organising judge is also judging very difficult to control so suggest designated volunteer runs the fundraising at the competition to encourage participation. RG Spring States One blood nose resulted in one athlete not performing final routine. One child did not receive her participation certificate Suggestion of peephole in door was made Events finished early (display problem?) Summary. At most events either in event reports or verbally, comments have been made on audible judge discussions and looking at scoring screen not giving good impression to the spectators I would support the suggestion of window in the door to allow people to see when entry will not disturb an athlete performing their routine. Loud music in outer hall can make it difficult to gauge if music is playing indicating routine in progress. Event reports must be requested to allow this report to be written. It would be more useful for scanned copies to be sent routinely to Event coordinators to notify them of any problems and allow follow up as required. event coord oct /11/2014 Created by
