3 PROJECTS DESCRIPTION INTERNATIONAL WORKCAMP DJ MAY 08 JUNE 2015 ELEPHANT PROJECT ANIMAL CONSRV 12 VOLS DJ JAN 2016 ELEPHANT PROJECT ANIMAL CONSRV 12 VOLS DJ FEB 07 MARCH 2016 ELEPHANT PROJECT ANIMAL CONSRV 12 VOLS Background: Currently the conflict between elephants and human are rising because they have less area to live. Elephants are being squeezed into smaller area, since the local farmer plant the crops and elephants like to destroy and eat them. As a result, the elephants frequently raid and destroy the crops which will cause a conflict between human and elephant. Due to this reason, local government and organization which concerns about the wild life are working together to save or conserve the elephants and reduce the conflict. This project aiming to assist local governmental office named Way Kambas National Park which located in Elephant Conservation Centre Lampung to conserve the sanctuary. Our project IS NOT a safari place, but it is mostly as a place for elephant conservation which facing problem of critical decreasing population and threats due to illegal lodging which endanger their life. The PKG is located inside and managed by the Balai Taman Nasional Way Kambas / BTNWK (Way Kambas National Park) covering round square kilometers in Lampung Province, Southern Sumatera Island. The park consists of swamp forest and lowland rain forest. There are around 60 elephants with 60 mahouts for each (1 mahout responsible for 1 elephant). All of the elephants in the PKG are chained when they were in the stall during the night. The purpose of putting chain in one of their legs is for monitoring, handle the elephants when they are stress, to distinguish between the PKG s elephants and the wild one. The mahout using special tool called gancu (little iron hammer with curve point) to handle the elephant. The way how to use the gancu is by touching gently behind the elephant s ear and sometimes on its head. Work: Volunteer will help local mahout (a person who takes care and train an elephant) daily to take care the elephant starting from bathing/showering, feeding, health checking and grassing the elephant. One local mahout will be accompanied by one volunteer in doing his daily job. Study theme: The volunteers could learn about the animal s life and how local people take care of and handle the conservation. Leisure Time: During the free time, the volunteers may stay at Ecolodge and have wild life and eco tour. Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in Elephant Conservation Centre / kind of dormitory (basic conditions, sleeping bag and mat needed). Food will be provided with catering service. Location: The workcamp will take place in Way Kambas Elephant Conservation Centre, Lampung. Terminal: Raden Inten II Airport (TKG) Lampung. Special Requirement: As the participants will stay and live in the area of PKG and BTNWK, then everybody should be open minded, understand and accept the way of local mahout in taking care of the elephants and MUST follow all the project regulations without any exceptions. The volunteer accept all the rules and condition of the project which listed on the preliminary information of the workcamp (attached). Volunteer is recommended NOT to buy flight ticket at least 2 months before the project start, to avoid the cancellation of the project due to lack of participant, please contact and confirm again to the organization for last update information. The project will be run ONLY if the minimum participants are 4 people. Participant fee: 290 or IDR/camp (flat rate 1 : IDR). The fee must be paid in CASH upon DJ AUGUST 2015 MAGELANG PROJECT RENO+KIDS 12 VOLS Background: Magelang located between Mount Merbabu and Mount Sumbing. It is also located in a fertile agricultural area and one of the most densely populated regions on Central Java. Moreover, it lays a monumental and greatest Budhist Temple, Borobudur. Magelang is 65 km away from Semarang and 42 km away from Jogjakarta. This regency is surrounded by mountains and hills such as Sindoro Sumbing Mountain, Merbabu Mountain, Merapi Mountain, Andong hill and Telomoyo hill. Our project will be working together with local elementary school. The intercultural dimension which the volunteers present would be welcomed and valued by their school community. 4 Work: This project will be focusing on educational and manual work. We will perform an English teaching and other activities with local kids such as games plays and songs. While in the afternoon volunteers will do construction work and farming. Leisure Time: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit Borobudur Temple and also have rafting which is located in the city. Volunteers should cover the transport during free time. Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in Indonesian host families (basic conditions, sleeping bag and mat needed) where they will also receive food. Location: This work camp will be conducted in Magelang Regency which is 50 kms north away from Yogyakarta. Terminal: Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) Yogyakarta or Yogyakarta Railway Station. Special Requirement: The volunteer should accept all the rules and condition of the project. Volunteer is DJ AUGUST 2015 JEMBRANA PROJECT RENO + EDU 12 VOLS DJ MARCH 2016 JEMBRANA PROJECT RENO + EDU 12 VOLS Background: Jembrana is one of regencies in Bali Island. It is located in the west part of Bali Island. Jembarana can be reached for 3 hours by car or bus from Denpasar. Different from the capital city of Denpasar, Jembaran is peaceful and quite place. There are a lot of rice fields stretches along the regency. Moreover, the local community is very open and warm to the visitors. We recently held our workcamp project in Senior High School in Mendoyo Sub-district. This year, Dejavato initiates to hold workcamp project in some schools in Jembrana regency. The students are educated with basic studies for math, languages, social, science, art and music. School hour starts from 7 am 1 pm, Monday to Saturday. After the school hour, the students are recommended to involve in several extracurricular such as sport, art, scout, computer and traditional dance. Work: The volunteer will teach students simple basic English and introduce some English kids songs. The volunteers will also do simple renovation to the school such as making bookshelf for a library and painting the classroom. They will l also involved in other activities like culture exchange and playing with the kids. focus on the local culture particularities. Some cultural visits are also foreseen. Leisure Time: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit the diverse tourism attraction in Bali which has been popular all over the world. Volunteer may visit beaches, handicraft making centre or traditional market. Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in Indonesian host families (basic conditions, sleeping bag and mat needed). Location: The workcamp will take place in the rural area in Jembrana Regency, Bali Island. It is located about 150 km western part of Bali Island. Terminal: Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) Denpasar Bali. Special Requirement: The volunteer should accept all the rules and condition of the project. Volunteer is Participant fee: 210 or IDR/camp (flat rate 1 : IDR). The fee must be paid in CASH upon WORLD HERITAGE PROJECT: DJ AUGUST 5 SEPT 2015 PATRIMONITO PROJECT HERTG + YOUTH 12 VOLS Background: Since 2006 Patrimonito has become our special project focusing on heritage conservation project. We recently hold Patrimonito project in Plaosan Temple which also belongs to Prambanan Temple compounds. The Dejavato Foundation Stronger with Volunteering 3

5 volunteers will be introduced to the World Heritage Centre s activities and campaign, the history and dynamics of World Heritage sites worldwide. Guided visits to Prambanan, will be organized in cooperation with the site s management. It aims at rendering its symbolic dimension to heritage through debates and reflections, contribute to the restoration and preservation of cultural heritage and/or improve accessibility and availability of information, raise the awareness of the local population and create a sense of ownership " and identification, and promote cultural heritage between international volunteers and organizations. Work: Volunteers will have restoration work. Besides, before the restoration work, the volunteers will have 1 day orientation about how to do the restoration and given information about the history of the temple, so that the volunteers really gained a lot of knowledge about the temples and the process of restoration. As the volunteers lived in the local community of Bugisan village, they also had activities in the local school with the local students. They will promote to the students how to preserve the temples and do some activities like students competition, culture exchange etc. The volunteers will also campaign about world heritage preservation to the local community as well as the visitors related to the world heritage especially Prambanan Temple. Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to one of world heritage in Indonesia such as Prambanan Temple. They will learn why and how this temple was built long time ago. In this opportunity the volunteers will also be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the Javanese particularities. Some cultural visits are also foreseen. Leisure Time: Visit the nearby World Heritage site and temples of Prambanan and/or Yogyakarta City. Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in local host families (basic conditions, sleeping bag and mat needed), where they will also receive food. Location: Bugisan village is located in Klaten regency, 25 km east of Yogyakarta. Terminal: Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) Yogyakarta or Yogyakarta Railway Station. Special Requirement: The volunteer should accept all the rules and condition of the project. Volunteer is Participant fee: 220 or IDR/camp (flat rate 1 : IDR). The fee must be paid in CASH upon DJ AUG 05 SEPT 2015 MANGROVE BANGGI ENVI + CONSERV 12 VOLS DJ DECEMBER 2015 MANGROVE BANGGI ENVI + CONSERV 12 VOLS Background: Many fishponds were damaged by the heavy wave from the sea in Banggi village. It was because there was no barrier to protect the coast since the mangrove was damaged. The local people, tried to conserve the area by planting the mangrove since 1960 s. Now the local people can take the advantage from mangrove forest which reaches about 80 hectares. The local people are continuing to conserve the mangrove by planting in the area more than 100 hectares. Besides, they also have a mangrove cluster to help conserve the mangrove by providing the seeds. Work: The volunteer will have manual work by helping local people to make polybag for the seeds, planting mangrove, and take care of the mangrove. Volunteers will also have a chance to conduct teaching program with local school in order to give them early education related environmental issues. Leisure time: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit Kartini Beach which is famous tourism place. You will also have a chance to do some sport activities with the local youths. Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in Indonesian host families with the basic conditions where they will also receive food. Location: This work camp will be held in Banggi Village, Rembang Regency which is 100 kms east away from Semarang city. 6 DJ AUG 12 SEPT 2015 OWL (Tyto Alba) CONSERV. ANIMAL CONSERV 12 VOLS Background: Most of people who live in Tlogoweru village are farmers who plant crops like rice, corn, vegetables and fruits. In the past, they were facing with a lot of kind of pests like insects, mammals, rats, caterpillars and parasites. Since long time ago they have tried to protect their crops from the pests using many ways either traditional or modern using chemicals. However, these techniques seem useless to control and get rid of the pests so that the farmers were getting frustrated. Then they realized that they are living with the nature and they should treat naturally by applying organic farming and start to reduce the use of chemicals. Moreover they tried to apply the concept of food chain and find the natural predators of pests especially predator for rats that available surround the village. Now they are conserving the Owls (Tyto alba) bird as the natural predator to control and get rid of rats. Work: The volunteer will help local people to conserve the owls (Tyto alba) by feeding the baby owl, making the nest and conservation sign. Besides, they will help local teacher to teach basic English and join the activity in the rice fields. Leisure time: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit Sam Poo Kong temple, Great Mosque which are famous tourism place in Semarang. You will also have a chance to do some sport activities with the local youths. Besides you can also enjoy the sunset Owls bird watching as they will start flying and hunting after the sunset. Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in Indonesian host families with the basic conditions where they will also receive food. Location: this work camp will be held in Tlogoweru Village, Demak Regency which is 30 kms east away from Semarang city. Terminal: Achmad Yani International Airport (SRG) Semarang or Semarang Tawang Railway Station. Special requirement: The volunteer should accept all the rules and condition of the project. Volunteer is DJ AUG 12 SEPT 2015 MANGROVE BAROS ENVI + CONSERVE 12 VOLS Background: Baros is a small village in the area of Opak river estuary to protect from abrasion since the village is heading to the Indonesian ocean which the waves are dangerous and big more than 3 meters. Since 2001, local youth in Baros has initiated to conserve the mangrove ecosystem by planting mangrove in the purpose to protect their area from abrasion. Furthermore, the area will be the role model of mangrove conservation in the south part of Java and the center of research for environmental issue as well as the place for new ecosystem that live in the mangrove such as birds, monkey and fishes. Work: The volunteer will have manual work to conserve the area by providing the seeds with polybag, planting mangrove, making protection for the seeds, cleaning the rubbish in the mangrove area. Volunteers will also have a chance to conduct teaching program with local school in order to give them early education related environmental issues. Leisure time: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit tourism places in Yogyakarta City and Borobudur Temple. Dejavato Foundation Stronger with Volunteering 5

7 Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in Indonesian host families with the basic conditions which they will also receive food. Location: This work camp will be held in Baros village, Bantul regency which is 40 kms south away from Jogjakarta city. Terminal: Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) Yogyakarta or Yogyakarta Railway Station. Special requirement: The volunteer should accept all the rules and condition of the project. Volunteer is DJ JAN 13 FEB 2016 JIMBARAN PROJECT DISABLED + RENO 12 VOLS Background: Jimbaran is a well-known village that offers unique cultures and beauty places such as beautiful beaches, traditional dances and so on. Bali disabled School was founded with the aim to cater for the needs of disabled children and youth in Bali and the surrounding areas. The school accommodates education for special children and youth from Kindergarten until Senior High School age level. In order to meet education needs for special children and youth, the school provides several educational services such as autism education, mute education, and metal education. The subjects of the studies are taught based on the student s specialties. Except the compulsory subject studies, the teachers also provide them with several extra activities in order to lead them to become independent personality in the future. In general, the school curriculum or education system is similar to other school, but there are various programs implemented in this school in order to support or courage students life skill as well as their motivation in the specific fields. Work: The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teacher in classes like teaching basic conversation in English, helping teacher in giving training on physical activities of the disabled students like making simple handicrafts, playing, doing simple sport etc. Volunteers influence on students is expected to create a sense of knowledge of other realities of the disabled kids and other cultures in a way that improves their own perception of themselves and what they can achieve. Also to open the mind of international volunteers that the disabled students also need attention to face their future. It will also give opportunity for the international volunteers about the treatment that should be done by the families of disabled children. Leisure Time: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit the diverse tourism attraction in Bali which has been popular all over the world. Volunteer may visit beaches, handicraft making center or traditional market. Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in the school (basic conditions, sleeping bag and mat needed) and cook their own meal. Location: This work camp will be held in Bali disabled school Jimbaran. Terminal: Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) Denpasar Bali. Special Requirement: The volunteer should accept all the rules and condition of the project. Volunteer is Participant fee: 215 or IDR/camp (flat rate 1 : IDR). The fee must be paid in CASH upon DJ JAN 13 FEB 2016 TELUK PROJECT ENVI + YOUTH 12 VOLS Background: During the last 5 years environmental issues became important issues among local people in Teluk Village, Jepara Regency. This place is situated heading of North Sea of Java Island. Several environmental problems rise such as garbage problem in the seashore and also abrasion in the local village. Many of the local people are Dejavato Foundation Stronger with Volunteering 6

8 not put their concern yet due this situation while some of them are trying to deal with this problem by cooperating with local stake holder which is concern to the environmental problem. Work: The volunteer will have manual work by making dump for garbage problem and also sea barrier due to the abrasion problem. Volunteers will also have a chance to conduct teaching program with local school in order to give them early education related environmental issues. Leisure time: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit Bandengan Beach and Kartini Beach which are famous tourism place. You will also have a chance to do some sport activities with the local youths. Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in Indonesian host families (basic conditions, sleeping bag and mat needed) where they will also receive food. Location: this work camp will be held in Teluk village, Jepara regency which is 50 kms east away from Semarang city.
