2 ABSTRACT Tanah Merah Site C is a peaceful place that can considered as place which can let peoples to reduce stress and relaxing in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. There is a great place to peoples relaxing themselves due to there has a great natural views. It is a famous place to peoples go for short vacation and relaxing themselves during weekend. Furthermore, Tanah Merah Site C provides a large industrial factories which can create a great oppurtunites for people who searching a job. It is also effect the Negeri Sembilan s economic in direcly. Besides that, Tanah Merah Site C had been became a famous place like kampong style for torism and also local people enjoy the kampong style life there. Futermore, this place is near by our country international airport (KLIA) and LCCT, therefore there is so convenient to go for and more welcome the other country torism to visit there. The population of the Tanah Merah Site C is increasing year by year. However, the total number of the Malay villages are being decreased wherease the Chinese villages had been increased in bulky number in Tanah Merah Site C. However, got some villages are unsatisfied and facing the problems that was created before in the Tanah Merah Site C. I hope the government or private department can take initiative action to overcome to such problem. Because of all this problem are affecting the local people normal lifetyle and their own healty. 1

3 INTRODUCTION Tanah Merah Site C is a small town in Negeri Sembilan, it is about 8km southeast of Port Dickson and around 20km from Sepang. Tanah Merah means Red earth in the Malay language. However, in Negeri Sembilan s local dialect, the name could also mean hidden. This town is becoming less and less hidden in recent years as the Kuala Lumpur conurbation (Klang Valley) expands southwards. This town is surrounded by hills and jungle. Its fresh air and tranquil surroundings make it an attractive place to live or to visit. Tanah Merah Site-C is easy accessible via the PLUS highway. Figure 1: Main entrence of the village 2

5 POPULATION The 1990 census data shows that Tanah Merah Site C has a population of around 3,000. By the year 2000, the town s population had doubled to 6,000. Figure 3: Photograph with Madam Oi Ah Hoh, aged 88. She is the oldest person in the village and continues to enjoy good health. Figure 4:Picture with Mr. Toh Ah Huat, the head of village. Mr. Toh is 55 years old. He is well respected and is often called upon to deal with problems in the village. 4

6 ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES Local Housing Figure 5& 6 : Picture of local houses, many of which are partially made of wood. Some of these homes provide home stay programs for tourists who wish to experience a Kampung lifestyle. The cost of these programs is quite affordable for local and foreign tourists. 5

10 Tanah Merah Site C has a relaxing and tranquil environment which can attract tourists. Besides that, the hill at Tanah Merah Site C offers a beautiful panoramic view of the countryside. Lush Valleys of green rainforests, peppered with flat palm oil plantations and a few towns, can be seen from the hilltop. During the mornings, mist rising from the ground from the warmth of the sun envelops the landscape in a carpet of white, providing a surreal atmosphere. This is why most hikers come up during the early mornings and wait for the sunrise to catch the breath taking view. The hike itself is relatively easy, taking between minutes to reach the highest peak depending on how fit you are. Local fruit and vegetable farms provide visitors with a taste of fresh local produce. 9

11 HEALTH AND CARE CENTRE Figure 13: one of the clinic in town Tanah Merah Site C has several medical clinics, e.g. Klinik Loh and Klinik Chin. The clinics are easily accessible from different parts of the village. These clinics are run by general practitioners. Villagers have to travel to nearby towns for specialist care. 10

12 SOCIAL, CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS PRACTICE Culture Buddhism and Islam are the most common religions in the village. Muslims worship at the local mosque. Figure 14: The Feng Shan Shi temple Local buddhists often worship at the Feng Shan Shi temple. The temple was built from funds contributed by chinese buddhists in this area. Besides worshipping at this temple, local chinese also celebrate their main festivals there, e.g. Mooncake festival and Chinese New Year. 11

14 Bus Station Figure 16: Bus Station There are several bus stations in the village and it is convenient to catch a bus. Some buses go all the way to Seremban and Kuala Lumpur. Train station Villagers who wish to catch a train have to travel to the nearest railway station in Seremban. The Seremban Railway Station provides KTM Komuter and KTM Intercity services. 13

16 PROBLEMS Water pollution is a problem faced by residents. The water is sometimes dirty and unsafe for cooking. 18 RECOMMENDATIONS 1. Reduce the probability of water shortage and prevent water pollution. The water crisis causes inconvenience to villagers. In addition, this problem could drive visitors away. The relevant authorities need to address these issues. vandals. 2.
