Our fifth annual Dairy Expo provides the largest dairy trade show in the southern Midwest along with nationally known speakers on timely topics directed to our needs, says Expo Chairman and dairy farmer Ted Sheppard of Cabool. This is your opportunity to get some answers, for your farm, from our speakers, industry friends and fellow attendees. (See the schedule on the next page for details!) Take a day or two, bring the family, and join us in Springfield. The Ramada Oasis Hotel and Convention Center offers a relaxing atmosphere with newly renovated sleeping rooms and a huge indoor pool. In addition, the Convention Center is conveniently connected to the Hotel and will house over 60 dairy exhibits and equipment inside. The Ramada is located on the north side of Springfield at Glenstone and Interstate 44, says Sheppard. Registration is free for dairy farmers and their families with a nominal registration fee for allied industry representatives. Dairy farmers and allied industry from surrounding states are encouraged to attend. Missouri s dairy organizations will also conduct board meetings and annual meetings during the Expo, says Dave Drennan, Expo Sales Manager. Don t forget that Branson is only 45 miles away from Springfield so we hope if you are coming a distance that you enjoy all Missouri has to offer, concludes Drennan. 3 DAIRY EXPO SPEAKERS Randy Asher Randy Asher is an independent Animal Science consultant focusing on nutrition and animal health. He helps troubleshoot dairies that have had or may have challenges with molds, yeasts, and mycotoxins. In addition he works with dairy producers on feedstuff and forage quality issues including the effects of molds, yeasts and mycotoxins on production. He has owned and operated his own consulting business for 15 years in Brookings, SD. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Animal Science. Randy s current research interests include fungal pathogenesis and hemorrhagic bowel syndrome in dairy cattle. Gary Sipiorski Dairy Development Manager, Vita Plus Corporation Gary spent seventeen years with the Citizens State Bank of Loyal, Wisconsin, as an agricultural loan officer and worked his way up to President and CEO where he serves on the Board of Directors. He graduated from the Graduate School of Banking in Austin, Texas. He did business primarily with dairy producers. Gary joined the Vita Plus Corporation on October 1, 2008, a 400 employee owned nutrition firm based in Madison, Wisconsin. He is a meeting advisor for the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin and writes for Hoard s Dairyman and many other agricultural publications. Dr. Scott Brown Scott Brown is an assistant extension professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Missouri and the state extension agricultural economist for University of Missouri extension. Brown has worked with U.S. Congress over the past two decades in determining the quantitative effects of changes in dairy and livestock policies and has testified regarding dairy and livestock policy issues before House and Senate Agriculture committees. He has worked extensively on federal and state dairy policy issues over the last three decades. Brown received his PhD degree in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri and his BS degree in agricultural business from Northwest Missouri State University. He grew up on a diversified farm in Northwest Missouri. Dr. Mike Hutjens Mike Hutjens was raised on a 313 acre, 70 cow grade Holstein farm near Green Bay, Wisconsin. From 1971 to 1979, Dr. Hutjens was extension dairy specialist at the University of Minnesota. He taught two courses in dairy cattle judging and coached the national champion team in 1978 at the World Dairy Expo. Since 1979, he has been a member of the University of Illinois Dairy and Animal Sciences Departments as extension dairy specialist. He resides in Savoy, IL, with his wife, Carol and five children (3 sons and 2 daughters) and seven grandchildren. Mike served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve ending as a specialist five with an honorable discharge. Mike retired from the University of Illinois in December, 2010 and will continue to teach part time. Cindy Sorensen Cindy Sorensen is Senior Vice President for Business Development with the Midwest Dairy Association (the dairy farmer checkoff program in the Midwest) and has over 30 years of experience with consumer packaged goods companies in the food industry. Prior to joining the Midwest Dairy Association, she gained industry experience while working for Nestle, and The Minute Maid Company, an operating group of The Coca-Cola Company. Her career led to positions with increasing responsibility in the areas of sales management, category management, and food broker management, with grocery, drug and mass merchandiser channel accountability. In her current role with the Midwest Dairy Association, she works in a consultative role with retailers, wholesalers and dairy product manufacturers to help them sell more dairy products on behalf of U.S. dairy farmers.
