4 4 Allison Schwartz, Nekoosa Rebecca Taylor, Mosinee CHILDREN S LITERATURE DUC Elizabeth Felt Alicia Bechle, Mosinee Shae Ganser, Mosinee Alyssa Scholzen, Pittsville For STUDENTS not scheduled for a morning writing workshop session, HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY, PARENTS, RELATIVES, AND FRIENDS. 9:30-10:50 am POETRY/PERCUSSION WORKSHOP - DUC 374 Joan Wiese Johannes will demonstrate how percussion instruments can be used to create pleasing rhythms when writing poetry and how to use music to accompany poetry. After a short demonstration of how she combines poetry and her original music for the Native American flute, participants will get a chance to try out the different instruments and use them to enhance their own poetry or poems which will be provided for the exercise. Joan was a beloved Language Arts teacher at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids and has won The Chisholm Award for the exemplary teaching of English and a Kohl Fellowship. Lincoln High School Teacher of the Year for 2003 and Wisconsin Secondary Teacher of the Year in 1993, she has been publishing poetry for over twenty years and music for five. She was also awarded a silver medallion from Carlos Nakai for publishing Native American flute/vocal duets and has released a duet CD, Heyoalinda, and presented flute/poetry workshops for Wisconsin flute circles and for the Pacific NW Flute Gathering in Washington.

5 5 9:30-11 a.m. DUC 376 Open Mic The editor of Barney Street and other UWSP writers will read from their writing, after which high school students are invited to read from theirs. 11:00 11:50 a.m. STUDENT LUNCH DUC Alumni Room Lunch will be provided for all invited students. 11:00-11:50 a.m. TEACHER LUNCH DUC Legacy Room Barbara Dixson will lead a discussion on best practices and assignments. Lunch will be provided. FOR EVERYONE

6 6 At 12:00 noon, UWSP creative writing professor Pat Dyjak will read from her work. Pat has published her poems in national literary journals such as Earth's Daughters and Diner, and recently published a chapbook with Outlaw Artists called Autobiography of Some Other Woman. ADDITIONALLY: BOOK SALE - DUC Theater Copies of Pat s book will be available for purchase, as will copies of Elizabeth Felt s children s book, The Stolen Golden Violin, and books published by UWSP s all student-run Cornerstone Press.
