2 Overview of the Technology Titans Innovation Challenge Objectives and Benefits The Technology Titans Innovation Challenge is an idea competition designed to recognize and educate college students in the State of Utah who want to impact the world with new science, technologies, or products. Tech Titans is an opportunity for these students to earn training and prizes while they develop their marketable ideas. The numerous objectives and benefits of this competition include: Educate students in the process of transforming an idea to marketability Identify promising Utah-based inventions, research projects, and partnerships Foster relationships among inventors, universities, businesses, and investors Promote the work of students, researchers, and industry, especially in Utah Encourage further research, innovation, and collaboration Assist students and budding inventors in nurturing and protecting their ideas What Is a Technology Titan? According to Greek mythology, titans were budding young gods whose mother challenged them to gain rule of the world. Upon obtaining power, these titans ruled during what Greeks called the Golden Age, or the first era of Humanity. The mythological titan Atlas, for example, held the heavens on his shoulders; for this reason, a modern atlas is a collection of maps perhaps from Atlas s point of view. In modern times, technology titans can rule with new products or services that make the world a better place. Like the titans of old, technology titans are not satisfied with the status quo. Technology titans, however, rule the world with ideas and innovation. Modern titans can emerge from any race, creed, gender, or other background. The Technology Titans Innovation Challenge empowers students with the tools to take their ideas to the next stage of development and marketability. Entry Process Judging Criteria Judging of entries is based on the following criteria: Effectiveness of the description of the product or service idea (but not how it works) Presence of innovation or improvement over existing alternatives Benefit or impact to the environment, society, or a target market Plan for advancing the idea to a production stage, even if years are required Discussion of strategy for protecting the product or service First Round Students in good standing at colleges and universities in the State of Utah are eligible to submit ideas by means of a two-page summary that follows the submission guidelines listed at the website page These submissions will receive a "blind read" by a panel of judges made up of industry experts who unite to combine technical, business, and product development experience.

3 Second Round Chosen finalists will be invited to present their idea in person to the judging panel. Semifinalists will discuss their idea in more detail based on the criteria above and will take time to answer questions from the panel. This finalist event is scheduled for Saturday, March 31, Notification of Winners Final winners will be notified by April 14. Winners, judges, and sponsors will be invited to attend the awards dinner.
