Good Boys and True runs March in the Johnson Studio Theatre.

3 Kentucky playwright Naomi Wallace brings sharp insight, political anger, and cool, graceful and poetic language to bloody and tension-filled circumstances in Slaughter City, which looks at the horrific working conditions of factory workers. Almost dream-like, the play focuses on labor, its gritty realities, and the sparks that ignite change. Slaughter City runs April 6-10 in the Johnson Theatre. Mature content Spring One-Act Festival April / 8 pm and April / 2 pm in The Studio Theatre A lively, entertaining and eclectic mix of one-act plays directed by advanced theatre students. Mature content. Tickets: $8 with WU ID/$15 general public. Student Choreography Showcase April / 8 pm and April 24 / 2 pm in the Johnson Theatre Modern dance works choreographed by advanced dance students. Tickets: $5 with WU ID/$10 general public. For TIX to ALL upcoming Theatre and Dance productions, contact the box office at , or boxoffice@winthrop.edu for tix. The Department hosted an African American Monologues Acting Workshop in February with Troy Scarborough FACULTY Meg Schriffen and Emily Morgan traveled to the National High School Dance Festival in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in March for a successful recruiting trip, already yielding two applications Dr. Laura Daugherty escorted students Kevin Aoussou, Taylor Neel, Shivam Patel, and Luna Mackie to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Charleston, SC where they attended plays, engaged in workshops, and competed successfully in individual events. Daniel Gordon, Stephen Gundersheim, and Janet Gray travelled to the Southeastern Theatre Conference in March to escort a dozen students auditioning and interviewing for professional jobs and graduate schools, and to recruit among over 700 high school theatre students. ALUMNI Alumnus Zachary McCrorey (BA December 2012, THTR DTEC) is travelling to Moscow, Russian with the dance company Pilobolus. Alumnus Ashton Waldron (BA Dance 2011) is a teaching assistant at the Mark Morris Dance Center in New York City. Alumnus Natalie Kinney (BA Theatre: Design/Tech 2009) is an entertainment specialist with Jurassic World in Virginia, and spends her free time as a derby girl with the River City Roller Girls. Department of Design Chad Dresbach

4 Interior Design Interior Design is hosting the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Exam for South Carolina and North Carolina at Winthrop University on April 2 nd. NCIDQ, the National Exam for Interior Design, qualifies interior designers to be in the exclusive and highly prestigious realm of Certified Interior Designers. The exam is among the single, most-important activities future interior designers can ever participate in, and passing the NCIDQ is like the equivalent of passing the Bar Exam in law. For the Department of Design to host the Carolina NCIDQ test is good for professional prestige, reputation of the faculty/program, and increases respect within the profession it s a big deal. Winthrop students may - or may not - participate, and may - or may not - pass ; but there will also be other, non-student, professionals traveling to Winthrop to take this exclusive exam, and the destinations for the sites chosen aren t made arbitrarily or lightly. They didn t choose USC or Clemson or SC State or Converse or anyplace else; they ve chosen Winthrop. So, that s worth something. Department of Fine Arts Report Tom Stanley Student group USA (United Student Artists planned and completed a successful trip to arts facilities in Washington, DC over spring break. On Tuesday, March 22, as part of our Art, Business and the Creative Spirit lecture series, we hosted Mark Richard Leach, former director of the Mint Museum of Craft and Design and later SECCA, On Wednesday, March 23, as part of our Transforming the Community Initiative in collaboration with Rock Hill Economic Development and the NEA, we hosted architect and artist Ivan Depeña who spoke to our public art class in the morning, students at South Point High School in the afternoon, and the public during an evening lecture. On Thursday, March 24, our Art History program hosted Dr. Elizabeth Pastan of Emory University in a presentation titled What do we really know about the Bayeux Tapestry? Senior students are preparing for the 2016 Senior Exhibition with a website and opening April 15. The department has three M.F.A. students putting the finishing touches on their thesis exhibitions. They include Lee Ann Harrison, Viv Carey and Tom Seay. The department is gearing up for a major assessment of programs together with a strategic plan to address plans for the future. M.F.A. alumni have planned and will host Winthrop Alumni Exhibition at Hart-Witzen Gallery, with a reception April 16 from 6:30-11 p.m., 136 E. 36th St., Charlotte. Live Music by Tom Billotto.
