Remembering World War I: Its Lasting Influences Into the 21 st Century Interest in World War II remains high with the public; however most of the civilian and government programs, military innovations, use of media, gender roles, and world involvement to name a few, did not begin with this war. It began with the first World War that set into motion the 20 th century, and its ramifications are felt well in to the 21 st century. In April 2017, the U.S. commemorates its 100 th anniversary involvement in this war to end all wars. While these waters are great places to fly fish, you can catch a variety of fish and have the same great fly fishing experiences in your local warm water lakes and ponds. This class helps the beginning or novice fly fisher learn the basic principles associated with fly fishing. Learn more about more about the equipment necessary for getting started, how to properly set up a fly rod, become familiar with the basic principles of fly casting, and understand the use of flies and common fly fishing strategies necessary for catching fish in streams, lakes, and ponds. This class is required in order to register for Principles of Fly Casting. Dog Obedience May 4 Jun 15 (TH), 6:00 7:30 p.m. $45, Does your dog have class? CLASS, which stands for Canine Life and Social Skills, is an educational and hands-on program to promote training of practical skills and to improve the bond between people and their canine companions through positive reinforcement. Some of the real life skills taught in the class are settling on cue, coming when called, walking politely on a leash, waiting to be released to a food bowl, and responding to leave it in the face of temptation. This is a new class with limited registrations. Do not bring your dog to the first night of class but bring the treats you are currently using with your dog, if any. 8 Safe Babysitting Clinic May 6 & 7, 9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Ages 10 14, $55, Are you looking for a babysitting job this summer? Come earn a certificate from WNCC s Safe Babysitting Course. WNCC faculty teaches American Heart Association CPR for adult, child, and infant, basic first aid, choking rescue techniques, and use of an AED resulting in a Heart Saver certification card good for two years. The Early Childhood Education director provides 10+ hours of babysitting instruction on safety, food preparation, safe play and age appropriate activities. We also discuss accepting babysitting jobs, negotiating pay, and exploring and early childhood education career. Pizza and milk or participants can bring their own lunch. (Certificates provided.) Fun With Drones May 8, 15 & 22, 6:00 7:30 p.m. $20, Do you have a drone you re not quite sure how to fly? Do you know what you can and can t do with a drone? Get current information and hands-on practice during this flying school for hobbyist drone pilots. Bring extra batteries and your charger. Complete the obstacle course and earn your unofficial drone pilot s license. Meet other drone enthusiasts! Bill Loring and Tracy O Neal, local drone enthusiasts, lead the class. Principles of Fly Casting May 9, 6:00 9:00 p.m., $20 If you thought casting a fly line was too complicated for you to master, you ll be surprised to learn that with the knowledge of a few basic principles, a little personal instruction, and some practice, anyone can become proficient enough at fly casting to enjoy the sport of fly fishing. In this class, we review the basic principles of fly casting, learn common fly casting techniques used in a variety of fly fishing situations, and devote time to personal instruction and casting practice. Participants must bring a properly set up and functional fly rod to class for personal instruction and practice. To experience maximum learning from this class, the participant should also have completed the Introduction to Fly Fishing class. Class size is limited in order to provide individualized attention and instruction.
