1 Charting the Course of Financial Aid for the Future 48 th Annual MASFAA Conference May 20-22, 2015 Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino Biloxi, Mississippi MASFAA is composed of a group of people who are in the business of helping students obtain their educational goals. The purpose of the organization is as follows: To promote the professional competency and the association of student financial aid administrators in higher education, lending institutions, and others concerned with the support and administration of student financial aid programs; To assist in the development and promotion of effective student aid programs; To facilitate communication among all areas of the student financial aid community; To promote conferences and other training activities that benefit the organization.
2 May 1, 2015 MASFAA Members: Welcome to the 2015 Mississippi Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Annual Conference on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Conference Committee has worked tirelessly to plan an informative and entertaining event with relevant and interesting topics. We hope that you will enjoy the conference and are glad you chose to attend. The theme for the conference is Turning the Tide and as we all know the tide is always turning in our offices. There are so many changes that happen in the financial aid office every day that we all need professional development and time to enhance relationships. Please take this opportunity to get away from your office and enhance your relationships and knowledge. I want to thank all of our wonderful vendors and sponsors who have supported MASFAA all year in the events we have offered our members. Vendors and Sponsors are vital to organizations like ours, they make all our training events possible due to their support. Please make sure each of you take the time to stop by and visit the vendor area. I also want to take this opportunity to promote our charity, The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies located in Gulfport, Mississippi. IMMS is the premier stranding organization in the Mississippi-Louisiana-Alabama region of the Gulf Coast with the capability and expertise to care for sick and injured marine mammals. IMMS hopes to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of dolphins in the Mississippi Sound and adjacent waters of the Northern Gulf of Mexico. This organization also has many financial and daily needs that we as an organization can help meet. Please see the list provided for donation items needed. Lastly, I would like to thank the board and conference committee for all of their hard work this year. It has been a very busy yet exciting year for MASFAA. We have accomplished numerous goals and I am truly excited to see what the future holds for MASFAA. Sincerely, Carrie Cooper MASFAA President

Located in Gulfport, Mississippi, IMMS has been an active participant of the National Stranding Network since its inception. IMMS is the premier stranding organization in the Mississippi-Louisiana-Alabama region of the Gulf Coast with the capability and expertise to care for sick and injured marine mammals. IMMS serves as an important educational outlet for the Mississippi Gulf Coast, incorporating programs for conservation, education and research of marine mammals and their environment. The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies serves as a liaison between public and private entities interested in marine mammal science. IMMS has provided funding and facilities to graduate students in order to conduct their research. IMMS has also developed and supervised a marine mammal veterinary preceptorship program for final year veterinary students. Research at IMMS covers a broad range of scientific disciplines including population dynamics, underwater acoustics, health, genetics, microbiology, endocrinology, behavior, biomagnetism and ecology. The Institute has conducted studies in cooperation with scientists from the University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State University, Oklahoma State University, Portland State University, University of Miami, University of California, Berkeley, National Marine Fisheries Service, Naval Ocean Systems Center, Naval Research Laboratory, Jackson State University and Louisiana State University.
