Upcoming meeting dates: October 10 at 6 p.m., November 14 at 6 p.m. Ione Community Church Ione Community Church has appointed a search committee to begin the process of looking for a permanent pastor. This committee will be searching for available pastors through denominational channels and reviewing resumes. When possible candidates are found they will interview them and eventually recommend one candidate to the congregation to approve. Jill Martin, Earl Garrett, Tara Proudfoot, Deacon Heideman, Nancy Miller, Betty Gray, and Linda LaRue have agreed to serve on this committee. Senior Lunch will be held on Tuesday, October 24th at 11:30 am at the church.

Concessions on Senior night, October 12th will also go to raise money for the memorial fountain. We will have Jannie Allen s famous Babe Ruth bars that night. Parent Student Phone Messages Parents, we ask that you ensure that your children understand their after school plans before they leave for school. We know plans change and things come up so if you have messages that need to be delivered to your students, we ask that you call the school early in the day. We are very busy from 2:45 p.m. until school is dismissed because we are monitoring four students for a medical condition that needs our undivided attention. Annual Scholastic Book Fair This year s Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place on November 8 & 9 in the Ione Community School Elementary gym from 8 a.m. 7:30 p.m. Last year the community purchased and donated a total of 144 books to classrooms and the school library from the teacher s individual wish lists. The 2016 Book Fair also raised a total of $1,037 in profit which was then donated back to the Ione Community School and the Creative Care PreSchool. There will also be an online book fair option for those who are not able to attend in person but would like to purchase books to support the school. The online fair can be accessed at from November 1 4. Follow these Facebook pages: Ione High School ASB Ione Booster Club City of Ione Lexington Grange Upcoming Events Pumpkin Picking Party Saturday October 21st from 10 a.m. 12 p.m. Lexington Grange Hall, Marquardt Rd, Lexington For a $5 entry fee children of all ages can pick and decorate a small pumpkin as well as be entered to win prizes in the costume contest. Additional activities include carnival games like BOO Bowling and broomstick hockey. To play a game, children will need 1 or 2 tickets, which can be purchased for 25 cents or 5 tickets for $1. There will also be a great basket of fall items to be rafled off. Raffle tickets are $5. Lexington Grange Fall Bazaar Saturday, November 4th from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. Lexington Grange Hall, Marquardt Rd, Lexington Next meeting will be Monday, November 6 at 7 p.m. in the Ione School Library We are having a Fall Bazaar with handcrafter, vendors and more! It s free to come and money will be raised from this event for the Grange! Come support our small business! We will also have a raffle with items donated. Tickets will be $1 or 15 for $10 and the money will be donated to the Grange!

5 News from the Ione American Legion and Auxiliary Ione American Legion and Auxiliary will be hosting their annual Veterans Day program Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10: 30 a.m. at the flag pole with a program following at the Legion Hall. This years program will be a performance by the Ione Elementary Choir and a flag disposal ceremony. If you have a damaged flag please bring it for proper disposal. Ione American Legion Auxiliary is hosting Turkey Bingo Saturday, Nov. 11 from 4-8 p.m., doors open at 3:30 p.m. Come play bingo and try to win a free turkey and potatos in time for Thanksgiving. We will have a Potato bar and hot dog concessions. Frozen pies and rolls for sale. Bingo is $10 for 9 games of regular bingo and black out bingo will be 2 cards for $5 and 3 cards for $10 blackout winners receive 50% of the blackout pot. The Ione American Legion Auxiliary regrets that their annual craft bazaar will not take place in 2017 due to a scheduling conflict. We greatly appreciate our vendors and shoppers support in the past and hope to see you all on November 17, The Ione Creative Care Preschool is having a LuLaRoe Fundraiser on Thursday, October 26th from 6 8 p.m. at the Ione Legion Hall. Estate Sale There will be an Estate Sale at the Ione Legion Hall on October 21 & 22 from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. The sale will be held by Randy Barnett, son of Joel Barnett and will be selling items from Joel s estate. A wide variety of items will be for sale. Read Aloud for PreSchoolers The Ione Public Library is putting out a request for readers for the preschool library visits. It is one Tuesday a month and would only take about a half hour. You get to pick the book(s) you would like to read from the library shelves. If you are interested, please call the library at or stop by the Ione Library for more information and available dates. This person will be responsible for organizing, the registration, curriculum, special performances, and end-of-program survey; as well as running a 6-week Summer Reading Program in Ione in June and July of This program is usually 1 day a week for 6 weeks. The Oregon State library curriculum will be provided and the coordinator has liberty to adapt/ personalize as they see fit. Pay is at the end of the 6-week program and will not exceed $1,000, dependent upon Board approval. Candidates should be an organized self-starter. Child education background is a plus. Interested candidates should submit a resume and letter of interest to the Ione Public Library, P.O. 7 Free Vision Exam Offered in Partnership With Local Health Service Providers! The Morrow County Health Department, Morrow County Health District and Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) Casey Eye Institute are offering free vision screenings to adults age 18 and older who do not have vision insurance. The outreach program helps decrease preventable blindness for at-risk community members by screening for glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Through this partnership each participant will receive information on obtaining glasses and assistance from the Morrow County Health Department for coordination with follow up care as needed. The service will be provided on Monday, October 23, 2017 and can be scheduled by appointment only by calling the Morrow County Health Department at Appointments are available from 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. and delivered at the St. Patrick s Catholic Church Parish Hall, 525 N. Gale Street, Heppner. Eyeglasses will be available for a nominal fee ($30 single vision and $40 lined bifocal). Based on income, you may be eligible for financial assistance through the Heppner Lions Club. As a premier regional eye center, Casey Eye Institute is committed to helping preserve vision locally and globally. Powered by the generous gifts of donors and volunteers, the fully outfitted ophthalmology lane aboard the Casey Vision Screening Mobile Van provides much needed eye exams at no cost to low income, uninsured and underinsured Oregonians.
