1 Alumni Newsletter April 2016 Homecoming Schedule and Sign Up Coming Events Alumni News: Memorial Service in Honor of Hollis "Holly" Cheshire '15H, TAPS The memorial service for Hollis "Holly" Cheshire '15H, TAPS will be held in the Chapel of St. Cornelius the Centurion on the Valley Forge campus, on Saturday, April 23 at noon. As most of you already know, Holly passed away on Easter Sunday after a long illness. Holly joined the staff at Valley Forge Military Academy & College in October, 2009, as Director of the Forge Fund. Previously she had worked at Malvern Prep for 21 years in Development and Marketing, at Gwynedd-Mercy College, Germantown Academy, and at her own alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania. During her 6 ½ years here she led the Forge Fund in raising over 10 million dollars, and made innumerable friends among the school's alumni, parent, staff, and other friends. In the words of President Stacey Sauchuk, "Holly's leadership of the Forge Fund, and her devotion to making the school stronger in the most caring of ways, were without question. Her departure leaves an immeasurable hole in the fabric of the school." 4th Annual 1LT Joseph Theinert Memorial 5K Run/Walk To register or to make a donation, go to: Our 4 th Annual 5K is THIS SATURDAY. 2 Robert Bob Levy 63C Robert M. Bob Levy 63C, a longtime lobbyist and campaign consultant in Tallahassee and South Florida, died on Tuesday. Levy was 67, having celebrated his birthday March 27. Levy was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, The Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts, his bio says. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy and Penn State University. John Ensle 14 On 4 March 2016, John Ensle, VFMA 14, graduated from U.S. Army Ranger School. During his time at VFMA John served as C Company First Sergeant, C Company Commander, and Academy Battalion Commander. John started Ranger School on 4 January 2016 with 365 fellow students. John was one of only fifty-two students to successfully complete the course on his first attempt without recycling any phase. This is an amazing accomplishment and those of us who knew John knew that if anyone could do it, he could. John currently serves in 1 st Ranger Battalion, 75 th Ranger Regiment. He served a deployment in Afghanistan and some of his awards include the Combat Infantryman s Badge, Ranger Tab and Parachutist Badge. Mark Pretz 10, 13C Mark Pretz 10, 13C, former Regimental Commander and Cabrini College Graduate has made his mark of excellence again. He is pictured here with Radnor Fire Chief being awarded the coveted Fireman of the Year Award. Mark s drive and dedication to helping his teammates and his community shines through. Mark has achieved a high degree of leadership from his time here at VFMA&C to his professional life. We congratulate Mark on this award and hope for his continuing success in his future as a paramedic/firefighter.

3 Mark Kelton 74 The Center for the Advancement of Security Studies at Valley Forge Military College was pleased to present a World Class Symposium on 21 st Century National Security Challenges: From ISIS to Cyberspace in Mellon Hall. Representing the Alumni Association was Mark Kelton 74, a former Central Intelligence Agency Executive with 34 years of experience in intelligence operations, most recently as the Deputy Director of the National Clandestine Service for Counterintelligence. The cost is $ (Shipping included) Call Tom Goldblum 69, 71C, Director of Alumni Relations or ABOUT THE PAST IN REVIEW On the eve of the 88 th Corps of Cadets, revisit the glorious past of Valley Forge under the inspired guidance of its founder, LTG Milton G. Baker. During those years, precision and excellence in every function were the hallmarks of the finest private military academy in the United States. Thousands of alumni will remember these times with honor and gratitude. First produced in 1987 on videotape but now technologically updated to DVD format, here again is the narrated compilation of all films acquired from the first 40 years of VFMA&C, as submitted by alumni, parents and staff. This 107 minute documentary begins with a stroll through the fire ruins at Devon, and continues at the present site in Wayne, through most of the Baker years into Narration is by LTG Milton H. Medenbach 41H, BG Alfred A. Sanelli 39 and BG Ralph E. Jones. The entire stereo musical underscore is from the many recorded works of the Valley Forge Military Academy and College Band under the direction of the late COL D. Keith Feltham 90H, The Duke (as his respectful nickname evolved) presided over 27 all-scholarship cadet Bands, the longest tour of any VF bandmaster, one whose alumni would later proclaim, Together we stood his inspection, played his concerts and parades; together we cherish his influence on our music and our lives. Also heard are the choral groups of the late COL Robert V. Woodside, organist and choirmaster for the period During his tenure the cadet chorale reached levels of creative performance never seen or heard in the years preceding. Many of the arrangements were written by Woodside himself, a master musician. Director Producer Historian Research DVD Production George Newell 53C Band Ron Tschiegg 52C Band Leonard Quam
