Starting June 5, the pool will open daily from 1-5 p.m. Be on the lookout for the City s Fun on the Run activity vehicle, which is a mobile recreation unit that will show up in your neighborhood or local park with a treasure chest of activities and trained staff for children ages 6-13 (children younger than 6 are welcome when accompanied by a parent). Program begins June 12 and runs through August 4. Program may be cancelled for the day due to inclement weather. 4 The Winter Haven community created the Council on Quality Aging to promote awareness of aging issues and create partnerships and strategies to resolve those issues. The Council is working areas of needs for local seniors. Through the work of the Council, Winter Haven is proud to have joined the WHO/AARP Network of Age Friendly Communities. This is a 3-5 year process to assess, plan and implement steps to make Winter Haven a community that welcomes and appropriately accommodates older generations. The first step is to assess Winter Haven s current status of age friendliness, and we need your help to establish that baseline. If you are 50 years or older and live in the Winter Haven area, your answers will help make our community as Age Friendly as possible. Strength and Cardio Class, Mondays, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Residents $1 Non-residents $2. The Senior Center is looking for certified Zumba Gold and Silver Sneakers Instructors to teach regular classes. The Winter Haven Shuffleboard Club meets Wednesdays and Fridays at 1 p.m. Mixed Media Painting Class, Mondays at 1 p.m. Participants bring their own materials. The cost is $10 for City residents and $11 for non-city residents. Wellness with Wilma 60 minute low-impact workout. Campers will participate in traditional summer camp activities but the camp will highlight learning opportunities in team building, leadership skill development, civic engagement, community service projects and so much more. A sample week may include a trip to Bok Tower for team building & environmental education, a service project assisting in the planting of native plant species, swimming, crafts and a field trip.
