1 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEEING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF LINCOLN SCHOOL DISTRICT JUNE 23, 2014 The Regular Meeting ofthe Board ofeducation School District 156, Cook County, Illinois was duly called to order and held on the 23rd day ofjune, 2014 at 6:12 p.m., in the Lincoln Elementary School Building, th Street, Calumet City, Illinois, within the boundaries of said District. President Kidd called the meeting to order with a Roll Call followed by the Pledge ofallegiance. The choir has been fundraising for numerous years to save for choir risers. School Calendar ofevents for FY15 D. FY14 Master Board Member Activities Summary - To be completed by July 31, 2014 E. IASB/IASA/IASBO 82nd Joint Annual Conference - November 21-23, Friday Pre-Conference Workshop November 21, Registration & Hotel Reservation School Board Members are to provide their selection ofhotels and pre-conference workshops to Sharon Aschinger, Board Clerk, before July I, F. An IASB - LeaderShop Academy Symposium titled "the Talk the Truth the Crucial Conversations About America's Schools" was attended by Andrea Kidd, Donald Duncan, and Vanessa Hatcher on June 21,2014. Dr. John Draper, the presenter, is a consultant working with the National Public Relations Association to expand support for public schools. School Board Members recommended 6

7 Dr. Taylor and Administrators should implement a "Successory Notes" Program to recognize ways Lincoln School's students, parents and community members are making a positive difference. Some of the information from the notes could also be used to see how we can focus on improving other areas as well. The purpose ofthe program would be to help to instill Lincoln's students to be successful stewards and citizens and to instill core values. Member Foreman moved, seconded by Member Hatcher, to go into Closed Session at 7:13 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, and dismissal ofspecific employees ofthe District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c) (1), as amended by P.A Mrs. G. Oatman, Mr. D. Higgins, Dr. A. Rice, Mrs. A. Kasal, and Jon Sallee were excused from the Regular School Board Meeting at 7:18 p.m. The Board returned to Open Session at 8:02 p.m. In Attendance: Patrick Cantore, Supervisor ofbuildings and Grounds Member Foreman moved, seconded by Member Duncan, to uphold Dr. Taylor's assignment ofa 10 (ten) day suspension without pay to Patrick Cantore due to violation ofschool Board Policy 5:290 Misconduct. Member Duncan moved, seconded by Member Foreman, to terminate the employment ofpatrick Cantore, Supervisor ofbuildings and Grounds, effective June 23,2014 based upon School Board Policy 5:290 - Educational Support Personnel Employment Termination and Suspension. Ayes: Duncan, Foreman, Hatcher, Hathorn, Kidd, and Rawls AbstainiPresent: Ross Member Hatcher moved, seconded by Member Foreman, to return to Closed Session at 8:03 p.m. 7

8 Patrick Cantore left the Open Session at 8:03 p.m. The Board returned to Open Session at 9:01 p.m. Member Foreman moved, seconded by Member Ross, to confirm the action ofthe Superintendent to request Staff Member # , # , and # to complete Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) documents due to their current health condition. The action date offmla will be their first day of leave. Member Ross moved, seconded by Member Hatcher, to confirm the action ofthe Superintendent to approve a Consultant Supervisor's Contract to Tom Beck beginning June 4,2014 through June 30,2014 as Contractual Supervisor ofbuildings and Grounds. Member Ross moved, seconded by Member Hatcher, to adjourn the meeting. President Kidd called for a voice vote and the motion carried.
