Festival Drawing - We have had a dulcimer donated for the Tannehill Festival. This will be a dulcimer especially made for our raffle. It will be a 4 string Walnut Hourglass with a figured Maple sound board and Sweet Woods signature "Comet" sound hole pattern. It will be dated and signed by the builder, David Lynch of Sweet Woods instruments. David's website is sweetwoodsinstruments.com If anyone has anything else they would like to donate for our festival drawing we would appreciate it. This is the primary fund raiser for our club since our only revenues are from dues and this drawing; which are used to rent the facilities for the festival as well as provide much of the food and paper goods. If you have something to donate, please contact Dawn Wilson or Bobbie Payne using the contact information listed above. We can use anything dulcimer related: pictures, quilts, ornaments, pins, hats, shirts, CD's. A note of change for our November meetings - since the church uses the facility on the 1st Saturday of the month, we have moved our November meeting to the 2nd Saturday. UPCOMING SADA EVENTS Our June - July meetings will be held at the Bethlehem Methodist Church on the first Saturday of each month with jamming beginning at 1:00 PM. The August Meeting is our annual picnic at Tannehill State Park. 2
3 38 th Annual Southern Appalachian Dulcimer Festival Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park May 5 -May 8, 2011 ~~~~~~ THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN DULCIMER was developed in the southeast mountains of America and was the country s first native instrument outside of those made by the Native Americans. Until recent years, the Appalachian dulcimer was found and played only in remote mountain areas. Hand made of native woods, this long, thin primitive instrument normally has one melody string and two drone strings. The word dulcimer (or dulcymore) means sweet sound and the Appalachian dulcimer is known for its distinctive, sweet, haunting sound, ideal for accompanying traditional ballads and other folk tunes.
