3 The Old Hickory Council, Boy Scouts of America, is responsible for supporting and promoting the growth and quality of Scouting activities throughout an eight county area of North Carolina. The council works with existing community organizations (including churches, schools, civic clubs, businesses, and other groups) to provide opportunities for eligible youth through the formation and ongoing support of Cub Scout packs (boys ages 6-10), Boy Scout troops (boys ages 11-18), and Venturing crews (boys and girls ages 13-20). Old Hickory Council also provides character and career education through its Learning for Life division in partnership with local schools, and through the Exploring program for teens with specific career interests. All of these programs focus on the aims of the Boy Scout program: citizenship skills, character building, and fitness. Old Hickory Council is headquartered at the Wachovia Scout Service Center in Winston- Salem, NC. The Service Center handles all communications, records, publications, and day-to day operations of the council.
