15 Social Services 15 The Friendship Line 24-hour toll-free hotline/warmline for older and disabled adults The Friendship Line at Institute on Aging is the nation's only accredited 24-hour toll-free hotline for older and disabled adults. The Friendship Line is both a crisis intervention hotline and a warmline (non-urgent calls); our services provide older and disabled adults reassurance, crisis intervention, information, and referrals. In addition to receiving incoming calls our volunteers make routine outbound phone calls that provide emotional support, and well-being check-ins. For many depressed and lonely seniors, we offer a lifeline of hope. In every call, the goal is to help the individual feel safe and valued. The Friendship Line is accredited by the American Association of Suicidology. 24-Hour Hotline/Warmline Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: - Crisis intervention - Emotional support - Well-Being check-ins - Information and referrals Call the Friendship Line anytime, day or night, 7-days a week at and introduce yourself to one of our staff members or volunteers - It's that easy. The Friendship Line - 24-Hour Hotline/Warmline New Grief Group Who can call the Friendship Line? - Any person aged 60 years or older - Disabled adults 18 years and older - Caregivers of older and disabled adults Call-In Service We are available to people 60+ who may be lonely, isolated, grieving, depressed, anxious, and/or thinking about death or suicide. We also welcome calls from caregivers and/or disabled adults of all ages. Call-Out Service We make outbound emotional support calls to older adults who request it. These calls can be arranged by contacting Institute on Aging at A counseling group for persons wanting to gain support for themselves and to better understand their own personal grief will begin at St. Mark s Church (315 S. College Drive, BG) on Monday, July 10 at 1:15 p.m. in Room 101. A collaborative effort by Lutheran Social Services and St. Mark s, the group will meet every other week for 10 sessions. 17 Volunteer Views One who serves is one who cares for others. Here we are in the heart of the summer months lemonade and iced tea, porch swings, and summer breezes anyone need something to do with their time? Volunteers are the heart of every organization and WCCOA is no different! And we need YOU! Early in April we recognized all the adult volunteers of the Agency with dinner; however, that s not enough of a Thank You! as far as I am concerned for this giving group of individuals! It was fun, but what was even better, was the camaraderie exuding from everyone at this event. The smiles, the care and concern these volunteers give while doing home delivered meal routes or Governing Boards or rummage sales or gift shops or host/hostess at a site or an event, or or or! The list goes on! Everything seems to come from the heart! Feeling left out? We would love to have you join us for this event next year, but in order for that to happen however, YOU need to volunteer! I can be reached Monday through Friday at , extension 1005; , or by at jcmetz@wccoa.net. Give me a call or stop in at your nearby site and talk with the Site Manager; they know best where your skills and talents can be made useful around your home away from home!
