Your contributions assist us in maintaining and caring for our parish buildings and grounds. Know that we are grateful for your prayers and financial support. We wish to thank the catechists/trainers of the parish s altar servers. Know that we appreciate the time which you and the new altar servers have committed to their training. We look forward to the new altar servers joining this ministry in the parish during the next few months. We thank the members of the Parish Advisory Council (PAC) and Finance Committee. The members of these two ministries provide leadership, insight, and recommendations for the spiritual, sacramental, ministerial, and financial life of the parish. See the trailer at HELP FOR NEW MOTHERS Our parish Gabriel Project ministry is currently serving THREE Gabriel mothers. One of the mothers is due this month, and we want to thank all of the parishioners who answered our bulletin ad so generously in January to help prepare for her baby s birth. We now have another Gabriel mother who is due in November, and a third Gabriel mother who recently delivered a preemie. Please keep all of these mothers and their families in your prayers. We have a growing list of needs which includes diapers (sizes preemie, newborn, 1, 2, & 3), baby girl clothes, and meals for these families. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH Phone # HERNDON, VIRGINIA SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER May 6, 2018 PAC EXSUM (Cont d ) Property Purchase The purchase of the Price House to the parish was finalized on March 19, Physical Security of the Grounds The Town of Herndon Police will visit the SJC campus to make recommendations to keep us safer. Three ushers attended Diocesan security training. The Parish and School staff have completed their studies for the appropriate security of the SJS/Religious Education students and staff. The Police and other safety officers have recommended the placement of barriers in front of the church to prevent access for a car or truck to drive up to or into the church. They also made a few recommendations regarding the front office of the parish/school office. School Leadership Three listening sessions have been completed. The notes from the listening sessions have been shared with the SJS Search Committee. Information has continued to be shared with the parish/school community. The Search Committee will have its first meeting next week and start the selection process as outlined by the Office of Catholic Schools. PAC s Received an that a parishioner would not like barriers in front of the church, and would like to convert the Pine House to a Senior Asst. Living facility there are no Catholic run assisted living places in the area. The Scholarship Grant has been set at $1000 and up to two awards will be made for Visit for details and application. Applications due May 19, Divine Mercy Care s Interdenominational Infant Memorial Service will be held at Truro Anglican Church on Saturday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m. This free service is for all families who have lost a child to miscarriage, abortion, stillbirth, infant death etc. RSVP at divine mercycare.org. St. Joseph Catholic Parish Advisory Council (PAC) April 19, 2018 Present: Fr. Tom, Mark Overberg, Greg Bengzon, Marylou Bergeron, Elizabeth Vargas, Terry McNulty, Steve Anderson, Cheryl Wilson, Tom Reilly, Jeanne Nappier Not Present: Cindi Conroy & Frank Bowen New Agenda Items BLA -- The parish achieved 111% of its fundraising goal with 20% of the parish's registered members' participating. YMCA Summer camps at St. Joseph will start right after SJS school year ends. Census of Masses for Lenten Season The friars are studying if the 12:15 p.m. Mass during Lent is needed. The average attendance was 20 people. Since the parish began the Lenten 12:15 pm Mass, several surrounding parishes have begun to offer a 12:00 or 12:15 pm on a regular basis. Permanent Baptism Font Fr. Tom and Danny Rucker have met with a liturgical architect to study the replacement of the tiles in the vestibule, carpeting in the Church, the colors of the paint for the interior of the Church, improvement of interior lighting as preventive maintenance, and the possibility of the placement of a permanent baptismal font. With the Bishop s permission, the baptismal font could be placed in the back of the church. This would require 4 pews in one section of the back of the Church to be removed. Other items The Spanish community will provide information to create a Spanish Apostolate tab on the parish website. The Baby Bottle drive for HOPE raised $17,000. May 20 th is the pancake breakfast The Knights of Columbus and the Youth Group will help run it. This is the last year that the Herndon Festival will be in downtown Herndon. The change will eliminate the Youth Group's fundraiser that helped festival goers park in the parish parking lot. The Parish BBQ is Sept. 8 th : please mark your calendars; many volunteers will be needed. The recent Polka Mass was a great hit and was lots of fun. The parish received wonderful press coverage from the Catholic Herald. Continuing Agenda Items PAC Membership Applications for new members are due by June 30. The bulletin announcements will continue weekly through the end of June. Communion Under 2 Species The pilot will start on May 5th at the 5:00 pm Saturday Mass. One member suggested reminding parishioners how to take Communion under 2 species and EMs how to properly distribute it. Elizabeth Vargas said 26 EMs from the Spanish Community can help as well. Parking Lot Lighting The lights have been ordered and should be put up in June/July. PAC Member Calls Information for 30 new parishioners was distributed to six PAC members, so they can call and welcome the parishioners to the parish.
