2014 Bishop s Annual Appeal Training Sessions Thank you to our hosts: Mother of Mercy St. Stephen Our Lady of Guadalupe Immaculate Conception St. Eugene
Key Feedback from 2013 BAA Record attendance at trainings Positive feedback on materials Thank you letters for initial pledge for first time Pledge reminders more timely in starting Repurposed dollars for receptions to say thank you to leaders Average gift nearly $20 higher than previous all-time mark Significant participation through new mail and online options; large increases in higher giving societies
Key Feedback from 2013 BAA Logistics of materials to parishes Better communications from Parishes on members of parish leadership, orders for materials and schedule Timely reporting of summary and detailed data to parishes in user friendly format In-pew communication too general; not very supportive Misperception that Diocese does not want Parishes to have an active role Misperception that funds could be used for things other than Bishop Annual Appeal ministries
What is the Bishop s Annual Appeal? Leverages the size of the Diocese to provide opportunities for generous support to deserving ministries that would not occur otherwise Supports 30 ministries across eastern North Carolina Every region/parish is impacted Total raised since inception in 1970s is now over $100 million! $6.374 million goal in 2014 Largest areas supported (figures rounded): Catholic Charities ($1.2 million) Vocations and Priest Education ( $1.1 million) College Campus Ministry ($500K) Grants ($500K)
The Goal Established taking ministry needs into account and church priorities; parish then diocesan Net goal: $6,374,554; 0% goal increase; each parish goal still adjusts All parishes are assigned a portion of the Diocesan goal according to their relative percentage of offertory If 2% of Diocesan-wide offertory; than 2% of overall BAA goal Goals are not assessments Rebates stay same 80% if no school 100% with elementary school
