The Spokesman is a publication of the Highland Indiana Region of the Model A Restorer s Club, Inc., founded in 1964, and is published monthly. National dues are $ Local dues are $ National Membership is required. Business meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the McKinley Masonic Lodge in Schererville, Indiana. A Message from the Director I am writing this from my hotel room in Shipshewana, where the MARC Membership Meet is being held. So far it has been a great Meet. The welcome banquet was held in the Hudson Museum. It was really cool getting up front and close to these truly classic cars. My favorite car was of the one of one produced: the Hudson town sedan. You may have guessed the reason for the one of one, it was of course the price. You could buy a great Model A Ford for around $500.00, while this puppy went for $14,000. Those of you who have not made it to a Membership Meet, you don t know what your missing. There are great seminars and a chance to meet and greet other people in the national club. There is a lot to do in the Shipshewana area, lots of shopping for everyone, and of course the food is fantastic. Hope to see you all at Soup Day or having your cars inspected at Ralph s. Ed Javorka This month s meeting is Wednesday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge in Schererville. Roger Gill will be bringing the evening s program. Thank you in advance to Craig Hansen, the Kolars and Hagbergs for volunteering to bring the evenings refreshments.

2 The business meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. on March 3 by Director Ed Javorka. Assistant Director Cindy Phillips led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. TREASURER S REPORT: Kim Sefton reported a 02/27/17 balance of $ having described recent deposits and expenditures. After discussion a motion was made by Rich Pramuk and seconded by Wally Hagberg to approve the Treasurer s Report as presented. All voiced yes, motion carried. MINUTES: Russell Smiddy presented the minutes of the February 1 business meeting as presented in the February issue of The Spokesman. After discussion a motion was made by Rich Pramuk and seconded by Jim McNabney to approve the minutes. All voiced yes, motion carried. FELLOWSHIP REPORT: Giselle Porter reported on the health of Ed Erdelac and Ralph Knopf. MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Kim Sefton reported membership at 44. OLD BUSINESS: Ed Javorka reminded the membership about the Crown Point St. Patrick s Day Parade on March 17, the Calumet Region s annual Soup Day on April 2 and registration for the Fall Tour. NEW BUSINESS included an announcement about Model A Day September 16 at the Gilmore Museum. It was announced that former member Randy Randolph, who moved to Gettysburg, Tennessee with his wife Diane, passed away several months ago in an automobile accident. Diane contacted the HIR and is selling parts; contact for a phone number. Wally Hagberg discussed a possible drive-out to Klairmont Kollections in north Chicago to view the car collection. REFRESHMENETS were provided by Tom Rock and Pam Bowen-Kluck, Marlene Straka and the DeJongs. Art LeMere and DJ Stonerock won the 50/50; Dick Elston and Randy Chavez won the wine raffle. PROGRAM: Dan Dieck gave a presentation on items to carry in your tool box when participating in drive-outs and tours. He also touched on how to plan a drive-out. A motion was made by Ed Javorka and seconded by Rich Pramuk to adjourn the meeting. I don t believe it could be duplicated today. Following the trip, Dianne Davis wrote a book about it and in preparation for Model A Day a DVD was compiled of the presentation that Bob and Dottie Myers made after returning. MAFFI is fortunate to have several copies of both the video and the book and they are available for a small donation on a first come, first served basis. If interested please at president@maffi.org, there is a limited supply...special thanks to Bruce Davis for donating the books and MAFFI Trustee Jim Thomas for working to pull the DVD together. We are making changes to the museum this year so plan on coming to Model A Day 2017 to see what s new. Corners, straps and handles are leather. Interior is felt lined with removable tray. Fitted matching exterior cover included. Heavy duty rack is black steel, folding in middle when not in use. Includes mounting brackets. Trunk and rack are much better quality than offered by current vendors. $500 for trunk and rack. They told us that Helen Livingston's son and daughter-in-law both died in February; her son was diagnosed with cancer, and her daughter-inlaw died in the hospital while having tests. Jim, Jr. died a couple of weeks later. Helen is living in Ohio, where they lived and her granddaughter is there also.
