1 WADAH PERPUSTAKAAN bruneilibraryassociation.wordpress.com Bil. 11 November 2015 ISSN BLA OFFICIAL WELCOME TO TLA DELEGATION BLA was pleased and honoured to be host to 21 member visiting Thai Library Association delegation to Brunei Darussalam from 5-8 October Pn Nellie President and Hj Talip Vice President welcomed Assoc Prof Tassana and Dr Prachart and delegation to Brunei Darussalam on 6 Oct 2015 at the ITB Library Meeting Room. She briefed the delegates on the role of BLA, its initiatives, regional projects and also on Forum of Chief Librarians (FOCAL). This was followed by a question and answer. 2 EXCHANGE OF TOKENS OF GOODWILL AND FRIENDSHIP Dr Prachark on behalf of TLA presented a token to Pn Nellie, BLA President. In exchange Pn Nellie presented Dr Prachark with a BLA token VISIT TO ITB The TLA delegation visited ITB library on 6 Oct They were met upon arrival by Pn Hjh Pusparini Hj Thani, Chief Librarian. 3 ARRIVAL AND WELCOME The delegation was met upon arrival at Brunei International Airport by the President and Vice President and BLA EXCO members. Each of them were presented with Bunga telur as a gesture of welcome. The TLA delegation was in Brunei from 5-8 Oct While here, they visited the libraries of Institut Teknologi Brunei, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, MINDEF Library & Info Centre, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei, SR Dato Basir, Politeknik Brunei and sight seeing aroung Bandar Seri Begawan. 4 BLA DINNER BRUNEI STYLE BLA Dinner was held on 6 Oct 2015 evening at Dy Nooralizah s home ( BLA Secretary) and family in Kg Rimba for hosting the dinner. The cuisine included; Main dish: There was ikan salai, pais, liking, rendang daging, sayur pakis, ayam masak kunyit, udang rebus, ikan rebus asam pedas, sayur pucuk ubi, satay ayam and daging, nasi kebuli. Desserts: local fruits like durian kuning, durian polo, tarap and kembayau. cendol, and local cakes like Kuih talam ubi kayu, kuih bombai, cucur timpadak, cucuk tarap, selurut, penyaram. There was ambuyat with its special chopsticks called candas and its various sauces called cacah of mamangan, binjai, tempoyak. Go to page 5 Wadah Perpustakaan Bil.11 Nov 2015 Page 4

5 From page 4 BLA DINNER VISIT TO UBD On 6 Oct 2015, the visitors visited UBD. They were welcomed by Dr Hj Suhaimi, Chief Librarian. After a briefing, the guests toured the different sections of the library. Wadah Perpustakaan Bil.11 Nov 2015 Page 5

6 VISIT TO POLITEKNIK BRUNEI Visit to Politeknik Brunei was on 7 Oct TLA delegation was met upon arrival by Mr Dennis Ho, Director of PB and senior staff. The briefing focused on the Department of ICT hosting the Advanced Diploma In Information Science, followed by a visit to the School of ICT and the Library. VISIT TO SR DATO BASIR, JALAN 77 LAMBAK KANAN The TLA delegation visited the SR Dato Basir on 7 Oct They saw a storytelling session and mingled with the students. The Head Master Pg Hj Mustafa Pg Hj Chuchu, gave briefed the visitors on the school s library management system. The school, which opened in 1996, has 11,782 books covering both fiction and non-fiction subjects. Every class is given 30 minutes weekly for pupils to borrow books. Our system allows each pupil to borrow a maximum of two books per week,.english reading programme are on every Monday and Malay reading programme every Tuesday. 7 VISIT TO MINDEF LIBRARY & INFO CENTRE The delegation visited MINDEF Library & Info Centre on 7 Oct 2015 and was greeted and briefed on the online library services by Puan Hjh Rosnani Hj Yaakub, CEO and Dy Nurul. There are 5 other service points namely libraries of SHHB Inst of Defense & Strategic, Officer Cadet School, Training Institute, Defense Academy, Intelligence Training Wing. VISIT TO DEWAN BAHASA DAN PUSTAKA BRUNEI On 6 Oct 2015, the TLA visitors were greeted by Mr Hj Sahri Hj Nassar and Dk Masdiana of DBPB. The visitors then toured the many different sections of the library and learned that the objective of DBP is to promote and expand the use of books information and library materials through lending, reference and mobile libraries. In addition, the bureau also promotes the importance of the Malay language and culture through various programmes and competitions such as the annual Mari Becerita story telling competition. 8 DEPARTURE AND BON VOYAGE The TLA delegation was seen off at BIA by Mr Hj Abd Talip and the EXCO members. We wished our guests a safe trip home.
