Since this is the first time we are hosting such a major event, we have endeavored to build a good programme, with speakers of divers expertise, offers of site tours and exciting events. This Conference will indeed be a golden opportunity for networking, knowledge sharing and interaction. The people of Brunei are well-known for their warmth and hospitality. The impact of urban growth on cities can be seen in terms of housing shortages, inadequate infrastructure, and unbalanced

2 distribution of resources, traffic congestion and poor urban quality of life. The regional conference aims to address the challenges associated with managing urban growth and stage a venue for sharing best practices and experiences while deliberating on its critical success factors from land use planning perspective, public participation or inclusion in the decision making processes, governance and project financing and implementation.
