Please remember to sign up showing you d like to participate. Also, anytime you are planning to bring a dish to a function, please note on the sign up sheet what you will be bringing. This helps others decide what they might like to bring or what is still needed. If you have signed up planning to attend and something comes up, please remove your name or let the person chairing the event know you will not be attending. 4 Great Cypress Village Gazette I would like to extend a warm and loving Thank You to all my friends at Great Cypress for your prayers, visits, cards and food following my fall recently. I am healing and feeling much better. Jerry and I sure appreciate all of you. Thank you again. Joan Mallarkey My greatest thanks to all of my dear friends that were so kind to send me cards, made calls and visited me during my long and difficult recovery after my accident. Even though you were all so far away, your prayers, love and thoughtfulness, made my days brighter and helped me to look forward to the time I could come down and rejoin my Florida friends. I feel so blessed. Love Wink Our pets, while not human, still hold a very special place in our hearts. They always faithfully, joyfully and trustingly bless us with unconditional love. Without your help there would be very few activities to enjoy. To Shelly Hamilton for organizing our Golf Cart Parade. Everyone really enjoyed the parade. If you have never chaired an event and would like to, we d love to have your help. Currently, our biggest need is for people to chair our breakfasts. Specifically, February and March. No matter what you choose to chair, you will not be alone in your endeavor because we have many wonderful helping hands available to assist you. It was great to see so many new faces at our functions! Thank you for coming and we look forward to seeing you again! 5 Great Cypress Village Gazette GOLF CART AND CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS This year was the best ever for our beautifully decorated Golf Cart Parade and Homes. People spent so much time making the carts and homes look extra special to get us all into the holiday mood. The carts travelled around the village and the riders judged all the Christmas Lights and decorations. Thank you all for taking the time to make our village feel so festive. 8 Great Cypress Village Gazette PUZZLE SOLUTION THANK YOU DEB BROWN We would all like to express our appreciation and gratitude for her hard work and dedication she gave to our Great Cypress Village Gazette over the past 5 years. The Gazette is enjoyed by everyone in our village so THANK YOU Deb for your great contribution to our park. Lasagna soup 1 1/2 pounds Italian sausage1 ( I used 1lb ground round and 1/2lb ground mild sausage) can crushed tomatoes 10 oz. lasagna noodles, broken into smaller pieces 8 oz. fresh kale, optional 4 cups low-sodium chicken stock 2 cups water 1 cup ricotta cheese 1 cup white onion, chopped 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated 2 bay leaves 3 large cloves garlic, minced 2 tablespoons tomato paste 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 teaspoon dried basil 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste Directions In a large stockpot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over mediumhigh heat and brown sausage. Once sausage is cooked through, add onion and cook until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, Season generously with salt and pepper, and add basil, oregano and red pepper flakes. Stir in tomato paste until incorporated, then pour in crushed tomatoes, chicken stock, water and bay leaves. Bring mixture to a boil and cook for 5 minutes, then reduce heat and let simmer for minutes. Add lasagna noodles and kale (if using) and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until al-dente. In a separate bowl, combine ricotta and parmesan cheese until smooth. Transfer soup to serving bowls and serve with a large spoonful of ricotta mixture. Recipe provided by Judy Taylor 8
