Critical to this application is a fundamental understanding of target peptide assembly on graphene substrate, which can be difficult to obtain using traditional experimental analyses. In such cases, computational modeling and molecular simulation techniques provide atomic/molecular resolution and nanosecond-scale dynamics to guide device fabrication that significantly augment experiments. The work to be presented by Ms. Garley thus focuses on the development and validation of models currently being used to simulate peptide-graphene interactions to ensure accuracy and predictive power. About the Speaker Ms. Amanda Garley received a Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering from Purdue University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Born in Liberia, raised in Florida and Minnesota, as well as having traveled abroad, Ms. Garley s diverse cultural upbringing has enabled her to engage with people from multiple backgrounds and approach difficult problems with unique perspectives. Her interest in the materials science field began in high school when she first attended an ASM sponsored materials science camp. Professionally, she is involved with the ASM International Volunteerism Committee, the National Society of Black Engineers and has worked in industry and the government.

To make the reservations, contact Young Sup Kang by at young.kang@timken.com The Reservation Deadline is October 8, Abstract: A brief summary of lubrication regimes, sources of energy dissipation, and lubricant impact on various types of energy loss mechanisms will be discussed in this presentation. Lubricant fluids behave in a complex manner in highly loaded mechanical components such as gears and bearings. These components operate in Elastohydrodynamic (EHD) lubrication regime. Lubricant properties impacting frictional losses in such components will be discussed. Some examples of complexity of lubricant behavior in EHD lubrication and efforts to measure lubricant properties under high pressure and high shear stress conditions will be presented. Biography: Farrukh Qureshi is a Technical Fellow at the Corporate R&D Center of The Lubrizol Corporation in Wickliffe, OH. His research interests are fuel economy, additive component interaction, anti-wear mechanisms and high pressure lubricant rheology. He provides global leadership in Tribology to the Lubrizol Additives business. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to joining Lubrizol in 1998, he has served as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering conducting research and teaching in the areas of polymeric and metallic materials and manufacturing. He has more than 50 presentations and publications to his credit in peer reviewed journals or conference proceedings and two book chapters. He is active in professional organizations such as ASME and STLE at leadership level. He is a fellow of STLE and is current Chair of STLE Annual Meeting Planning Committee.
