This resulted in two articles in the publication process as well as two talks at math conferences with peer reviewed abstract submission processes , Project NExT Fellow New Experiences in Teaching is a program sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America to aid in the professional development of mathematicians, statisticians, and mathematics educators after they receive their PhDs. It involves workshops and lectures on teaching, academic research, academic scholarship, and professional activities. Fall 2011-Fall 2012, Graduate Certificate in College Teaching This is a 12 semester hour program consisting of coursework, practica and creating an eportfolio. The program aims to prepare graduate students for becoming more effective teachers in careers in post-secondary education. Summer 2014, Summer Research Fellowship Program, Viterbo University Mentoring a student conducting undergraduate research in commutative algebra for an 8 week intensive research program. This resulted in one article which was published in Involve. Summer 2011, REU Mentor, The University of Iowa Department of Mathematics Mentored undergraduate students throughout an intensive four-week research experience in generalized factorization theory. Fall 2009-Spring 2011 Math Lab Tutor, Mathematics Tutorial Lab, The University of Iowa Provided drop-in tutoring services to students enrolled in university mathematics courses ranging from basic algebra to multivariable calculus and linear algebra. 7 Recipient of the Presidential Graduate Research Fellowship at The University of Iowa. From a memo to the Departmental Executive Officers and Directors of Doctoral Programs: This is a five-year award designed to help programs recruit their very strongest doctoral applicants. It is valued at approximately 150,000 dollars over five years and includes three years of research fellowship and two years of service as a teaching assistant as well as summer stipends for 4 summers. Recipient of the American Mathematics Society s Travel Support Grant to attend the AMS Spring Central Sectional Meeting in Ames, Iowa in April of This is a 250 dollar award to help fund travel and subsistence expenses for the AMS Sectional Meetings. This award consists of a message from students given to exceptional professors or teaching assistants in order to let them know that their teaching is appreciated. It is coordinated by The University of Iowa Center for Teaching (Fall 2009). Member of the Holleian Society at Transylvania University (Inducted Spring 2008). The Holleian Society is Transylvania University s honorary society. Modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the society was founded in 1960 to recognize excellence in liberal arts studies and for faculty members to investigate and pursue the granting of a Phi Beta Kappa chapter at Transylvania. Duties: Selects and advises strong candidates for externally funded scholarships for postgraduate study, e.g., the Rhodes, Marshall, and Truman Scholarships, and for major internally funded scholarships for undergraduate study in Westminster approved programs at other institutions of higher education, e.g., the Cranshaw and the Piper Scholarships. I served as a member of this committee. (Fall Present) Westminster Problem Solving Group. This was a group which would meet to think about challenging math problems to help practice for the Putnam and other similar mathematical problem solving competitions. (Fall Present) Westminster Math Club. I have served as the co-sponsor where we put on events like π-day celebrations, movie events, and bringing students to math conferences. (Fall Present) Westminster Tabletop Gaming Club. I have served as the faculty sponsor for this club which meets to play table top strategy and board games for about 3 hours each week. (Fall Present) Service to Viterbo University Co-PI for IUSE grant proposal. This is an NSF grant we are applying for to Improve Undergraduate STEM Education. We focus on implementing more active and inquiry based learning strategies to improve retention and participation in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields across the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Viterbo University. (Fall 2013) Faculty Team Chaplain for Viterbo University Women s Soccer. Serve as a faculty sponsor for the women s soccer team. Students attend from 14 different institutions and 3 states. Served as a judge to rate and provide feedback to students presenting mathematics research at the symposium. (Fall 2013) Service to The University of Iowa Sonya Kovalevsky Day at The University of Iowa. This is an annual event held to encourage women in high school to pursue a future in mathematics. Gave a Heartland Partnership talk to a group of students at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa on accesible non-unique factorization topics. (Spring 2013) Heartland Mathematics Partnership. Went to visit UW-La Crosse in a support role to help answer questions about graduate school and math at Iowa (Fall 2012) Iowa Mathematical Modeling Challenge. Help with registration and judging of solutions to mathematical modeling problems posed to and solved by undergraduate students. (Fall 2012) Sonya Kovalevsky Day at The University of Iowa.
