1 Monthly Report

2 Chief s Corner Officer Jeff Koller was the recipient of the Cook County Sheriff s Award of Valor for his life saving efforts. The award was presented at Moraine Valley County College by Sheriff Dart. We are certainly proud of Jeff s recogni on. I recently announced the promo on of Officer Mike Luehr to the rank of Sergeant. The promo onal ceremony will be scheduled for the week of December 21. Congratula ons to Sergeant Luehr. In addi on, we have been working to fill our vacancies. We tenta vely have three recruits scheduled for the police academy in January A number of staff members par cipated in the Veteran s Day events. Our Honor Guard presented at District 64 school and at Maine South. Thanks to Ac ng Deputy Chief Mellema for coordina ng these events. There were a number of grant ac vi es this month. A Town Hall mee ng was held on November 9 at Maine East on Mental Health Awareness. Also, on November 16, clergy and church support personnel were invited to a training program on iden fying the signs and symptoms of mental health. Both events were well a ended. In addi on, the Advisory Board met this month. The Board has been working on a comprehensive brochure on mental health resources. We plan to have this ready for a presenta on to Council in January. Provisions of the Police and Community Rela ons Improvement Act (SB1304) go into effect January 1, They are many aspects of this legisla on that will create addi onal workloads for staff. New data collec on will begin on pedestrian stops. There are a number of repor ng requirements related to use of force and how these events are inves gated. In addi on, it requires that agencies cover a number of training topics during a three-year period. We are trying to bring the department into compliance with these requirements. 4 Traffic Traffic Enforcement Selec ve Enforcement at the following loca ons: Cumberland and Gillick, Talco and Hamlin, Maine East High School, Greenwood and Crescent, 1000 block of S. Chester, 800 block of N. Dee, 600 block of S. Greenwood, and Courtland north of Talco. Speed Trailers put away for winter. Worked on numerous hit and run accidents. Follow up calls to residents related to speed studies. Speed sentry placed Devon east of Dee. Stop Means Stop signs placed at Greenwood and Crescent. Ini ated speed study on northbound Hamlin and Cedar. Received/addressed mul ple calls regarding speeding autos and stop sign viola ons. A few violators were iden fied as Maine South students, and their parents were contacted. Overweight Trucks Generated $8, in Overweight Truck fines. Red Speed 318 total viola ons and 208 approved. Assisted Records Supervisor Nistler with a FOIA for Red Speed. Miscellaneous Ordered new moving radars for the new squad cars. Fulfilled Children Play Here sign request on the 1100 block of N. Knight. PBTs and Intoxilyzer were calibrated. Replaced stolen Speed Sentry, and ordered an addi onal unit due to amount of speed and traffic studies. Web-training for new speed sentry. Ordered 2 LED handheld stop signs for crossing guards at Talco & Hamlin and Dee & Birch. Crossing guard advised it was making a difference. 4

Social Worker Over 25 incidents and/or issues including domes c problems, mental health issues, elder issues, substance abuse problems, neighbor disputes, housing/shelter inquiries, and suicidal issues. 10

11 November Events In order to promote awareness for men s health, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital hosted a Movember mustache growing compeon on social media between the Park Ridge Police Officers and Park Ridge Firefighters. School Resource Officer Waddell discussed safety with the Maine East Preschool students. Officer Jeff Koller received the Cook County Sheriff s Award of Valor for his life saving efforts earlier this year. Park Ridge, Niles and Des Plaines Police partnered together for a coat drive, Cops for Coats, to assist the families of Maine Township.
