2 Chief of Police John W. Minek Dear Trustees and Citizens of Olmsted Township, I respectfully submit the Olmsted Township Police Department 2014 Annual Report. We strongly believe that each of you have a right to know what type of safety services and activities have occurred within Olmsted Township, and more importantly the resources being devoted in providing an appropriate police response to local problems and concerns. Included in this report, you will find the Olmsted Township Police Department statistics from We have compared these statistics to the statistics from 2013 in an effort to reflect either an increase or decrease in police activities from the previous year. As Olmsted Township continues to grow, so will our services. I would be remiss, if I did not recognize the personal sacrifices made by every member of the Olmsted Township Police Department to keep this wonderful community safe. 3 Olmsted Township Police Department MISSION STATEMENT The mission for every member of the Olmsted Township Police Department is to affirmatively promote, within available resources and engaging in lawful police functions, a feeling of security and safety to every member of our community. It is incumbent that every member of the department understands, accepts and be aligned with the responsibilities established by this mission. It provides the fundamental foundation upon which all operation decisions and organizational directives will be based. The mission represents the commitment of this administration to the concepts of quality performance management. Along with the Mission and Goals, members are expected to work within and observe the Core Values that are established for the department. Core Values are the convictions that bond us together to accomplish specific tasks and objectives. PROFESSIONALISM We conduct ourselves, both on-duty and off-duty in a manner that reflects favorably on our profession and the community we serve. We take pride in our appearance and demeanor. We hold ourselves to a higher standard and will not allow friendships, prejudices, or animosities to influence our decision making during law enforcement services. INTEGRITY We are guided by the principles of honesty and integrity in our daily lives. We will constantly strive to maintain the public trust through honesty and integrity in both words and actions. 8 Olmsted Township Police Department 2014 Incident Reports During 2014 there were 498 incident reports generated. The largest incidents included drug related offenses, theft, burglary and/or breaking and entering, DOA (Dead on Arrival), assaults, menacing, and disorderly conduct. It is important to note that the number of incident reports generated does not reflect the number of calls for service for that specific offense.

In some situations a report is not needed or requested by the victim.

Represented below are the incident reports involving theft followed by a comparison between the calls for service and incident reports completed.

10 Olmsted Township Police Department 2014 Calls for Service A call for service includes not only citizen requested services but officer generated calls as well. In 2014, there was an average of 34 calls for service a day. Service calls for violence or high risk for violence to officers or others include domestic violence, family trouble, disorderly conduct, disturbances, assault, and psychiatric situations.

11 Olmsted Township Police Department 2014 Motor Vehicle Accidents In 2014 there were 206 reported motor vehicles accidents. This number includes delayed reporting, hit skips, and private property accidents. Of the 206 reported 132 reports were completed and submitted to the Ohio Department of Public Safety. There were 8 alcohol related accidents and 35 persons injured. Of the 206 reported accidents 58 persons received a crash related citation. The majority of all accidents occurred on Cook Road; followed by Stearns, Columbia, Usher, and then Bagley Roads. The most accidents occurred during the month July; followed by November, December and February. Roads in which only one accident occurred are not shown.

12 Olmsted Township Police Department 2014 Traffic Stops There were 2,483 stop traffics completed in Of which 706 resulted in citations and 660 received written warning.

13 Olmsted Township Police Department 2014 Detective Bureau Statistics 80 total cases forwarded and followed-up by the Detective Bureau. 42 cases cleared by arrest/warrant issued 28 cases were solved without an arrest or charges 5 open inactive cases 5 open cases awaiting conclusion Approximately 17% of every case coming into the department is being followedup directly or indirectly by the Detective Bureau. Olmsted Township Police Department 2014 Professional Enrichment (Schooling) Every member of the department received a combine total of 768 hours of professional education. In addition, each officer received in-service training for State mandates and perishable skills. Officer Ketterer is assigned to the Olmsted Falls High School and is responsible for investigating all incidents involving juvenile offenders. Officer Ketterer is also a State Certified Victims Advocate.
