1 1 San ago Canyon College (SCC) Freshman Scholarships are awarded to recognize academic and specialized achievement among incoming college Freshmen a ending SCC in Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters. To be considered an incoming freshman, the student must have less than 12 college credits completed. You may apply for one or more scholarships with a single applica on. Please read all the instruc ons carefully. All required informa on MUST be included for your applica on to be considered complete. Enrollment: 9 or more units at SCC in both Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 GPA: 2.5 ( High School) Number & Amount of Award: Up to two awards at $500 each Enrollment: 12 or more units at SCC in both Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 GPA: 3.0 (High School) Demonstrate the following: Leadership Skills: Par cipa on in high school ac vi es and clubs Community Involvement: Volunteer public or private Employment: Work outside school as well as any jobs held on campus Number & Amount of Award: Up to three awards at $500 each Requirement: Must be a U.S. ci zen

3 3 WALTMAR HONORS PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP C r i t e r i a C o n t i n u e d Please review the Waltmar Honors Program Scholarship descrip on and qualifica ons carefully. All requirements must be met BEFORE semester funds will be disbursed. DESCRIPTION The SCC Honors Program Scholarships are designed to encourage entering freshmen to par cipate in the SCC Honors Program. Thanks to a dona on from the Waltmar Founda on, SCC will offer up to five $500 scholarships to be used toward enrollment fees, books, lab fees, and other classroom expenses. Once all required criteria has been verified by the SCC Scholarship Program Office and the SCC Honors Program, the student will be awarded $500 disbursement prior to the start of the spring semester. MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR APPLICANTS: Entering freshman A minimum high school overall GPA of 3.0 Must become a member of the SCC Honors Program and/or be enrolled in at least one honors class in fall of 2017 Two (2) le ers of recommenda on on le erhead (at least one from a school official) addressing any of the following: academic performance, character, extracurricular/leadership ac vi es, or academic goals Must be a full me SCC student (12 units minimum) Must maintain an overall SCC GPA of 3.0 both semesters of the award ADDITIONAL CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED IN EVALUATING APPLICANTS: GPA above 3.25 Depth and breadth of courses taken in high school Beyond classroom ac vi es: campus, civic, family ac vi es, community service and degree goal Interview may be required Financial need may be considered Complete a minimum of 2 honors courses in the first year of enrollment. REMEMBER: Semester funds will not be disbursed un l all requirements have been met. Funds are not available prior to registra on.

Check off all scholarships you wish to apply for at the top of the applica on form (page 5). Please review the criteria of each scholarship before you select it on your applica on. Your applica on will only be considered for scholarships that you check off on the applica on form. You may apply for more than one scholarship with a single applica on. 3. The following items MUST be a ached to your applica on: a. A copy of your high school transcript which includes your cumula ve GPA. b. One to a maximum of three le ers of recommenda on from people who know first hand of your achievements and your qualifica ons for the scholarship. c. A personal statement that does not exceed 2 pages, double spaced. 4. Return your completed applica on and all required a achments by the deadline. Although not required, you may consider the following topics: 1) Your interest in your intended major and how it relates to your educa onal and career goals; 2) Work or personal experiences that contributed to your personal growth and/or educa on and career goal; 3) Informa on about your school ac vi es and involvement in community service that contributed to your personal growth and/or educa on and career goals; 4) How this scholarship might assist you in your educa onal goals. RECOMMENDATION LETTERS: One to a maximum of three le ers of recommenda on must be included with your applica on. These le ers should be from people who know you first hand, or your achievements and your qualifica ons for the scholarship. For example: an academic recommenda on could come from a teacher; a leadership recommenda on could come from a club advisor or community leader; and/or a general le er of recommenda on could from a supervisor at work. Do not include recommenda on le ers from family members.
