Accreditation Central Jackson County Fire Protection District (CJCFPD) Paramedic Program currently holds a Letter of Review (LoR) from the accreditation body of CoAEMSP. This is the official designation that a Paramedic program is in the process of Becoming Accredited. CJCFPD Paramedic program must still complete the entire process to demonstrate substantial compliance with the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accreditation standards, and is not guaranteed an award of accreditation, holding a LoR does signify that the program is making satisfactory progress in the accreditation process. As such, the NREMT recognizes graduates of CAAHEP accredited programs as well as graduates of programs holding a CoAEMSP LoR, as eligible for the national Paramedic certification examinations.
3 Paramedic Program The purpose of this course is to train Emergency Medical Technicians to provide a full scope of advanced life support procedures to ill and injured patients. This course is designed to help the participant develop an understanding of human anatomy and physiology, disease pathology, advanced airway management, pharmacology, IV therapy, cardiology and trauma care. In addition, student will receive certifications in ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and AMLS. Our program is instructed by a variety of pre-hospital providers, nurses and physicians with many years of clinical experience and expertise. The CJCFPD Paramedic program is geared to prepare you for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam, State of Missouri licensure and to become an EMS Professional. Job Outlook Employment of EMTs and paramedics is expected to grow by 33% from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Emergencies such as car crashes, natural disasters, and violence will continue to create demand for EMTs and paramedics. There will also continue to be demand for part-time, volunteer EMTs and paramedics in rural areas and smaller metropolitan areas. Growth in the middle-aged and elderly population will lead to an increase in the number of age-related health emergencies, such as heart attacks or strokes. This, in turn, will lead to an increase in the demand for EMTs and paramedic services. An increase in specialized medical facilities will require more EMTs and paramedics to transfer patients with specific conditions to these facilities for treatment. Graduate Outcomes Course Year Retention NREMT Psychomotor NREMT Written 1 st All Attempts Working in EMS Field May % 100% 87.5% 87.5% 100% October % 100% 85% 94.1% 100% May % 100% 82% 82% 89% June 2016 ON GOING CLASS Classes will meet one day a week 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with repeating days to accommodate a shift schedule. 5 CJCFPD Pre-Course to Anatomy and Physiology Purpose: The study of human anatomy gives us a better understanding of the structures of the body and how they work. It is important to remember that organ systems don't just exist as individual units. Each system depends on the others, either directly or indirectly, to keep the body functioning normally. It is also important to be able to identify the major cells, tissues, and organs being studied and to know how they function. The math will prepare the individual to manage calculations pertinent to the paramedic for medication management. Course Overview: Orientation of Systems and Structures of the Human Body Terminology Medical Math Study Skills Test Preparation Textbook Provided Primary readings are recommended to prepare participants for the course and to enhance the learning experience
