3 Sheriff Rick Ramsay talks about the new Trauma Star helicopter, bringing the fleet to three.

4 The Monroe County Sheriff s Bureau of Corrections is re-accredited by the American Correctional Association. Congratulations on all the hard work!

5 James Hager, promoted to sergeant, took his new post in Marathon.

6 Sheriff Ramsay presents Louis Quad, son of Sheriff s Office member Michelle Quad with his certificate awarding him a $2,000 scholarship from Florida Sheriff s Association. Louis is in his first year at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

7 Sheriff Rick Ramsay and Captain Don Hiller, both Marathon High School grads, took part in back to school activities at the school in August. Also pictured, senior student Alex Mixon, daughter of Eric and Linda Mixon.

10 Community Events and Activities EVENTS, MEETINGS, CRIME PREVENTION ACTIVITIES.

11 Deputy Ben Elmore Deputies Elmore and Kilmurray speak at the Calusa Campground Homeowners Meeting. Deputy Elmore spoke about Marine theft prevention and identity theft prevention, and Golf Cart Ordinances. Deputy Kilmurray spoke about the County Noise Ordinance and the Card Sound Bridge Toll construction. It was a great turn out with over 75 owners in attendance! Deputy Christopher Kilmurray

12 Lower Keys Detectives Spencer Curry, John Gabay and Det. Sgt. David Smith went to several businesses in the Big Pine and Summerland area to show them fake money circulating around the area. They also stopped at gas stations to show them what a skimmer looks like and to check their pumps for tampering.

13 From the Hawks Cay Hero's 5K race / Touch a Truck Show: Sgt. Spenser Bryan, Dep. Mark Martin, Det. Garrett Bragg, Dep. Josh Baer, Sgt. Joel Slough & Dep. Mario Benedetti. Baer, Martin and Bryan placed 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd for their age group (20 29).

14 Deputy Digrius was patrolling offshore in Islamorada by "hens and chickens " when he saw a turtle in distress. With the assistance of the Coast Guard, he brought the injured sea turtle to the Islamorada Coast Guard Station where they were met by the turtle hospital team from Marathon. The turtle has a hole in its shell that won't allow him to descend. Hospital named him Harvey after the hurricane that hit Texas and he is being treated for his injuries in Marathon.

15 Deputy Matt Koval brought a microchip scanner from Key West to Key Largo so a member of the Upper Keys Humane Society could take it to Texas to help identify animals rescued after Hurricane Harvey.

16 HIDTA analysts Rachel Shelar and Olivia Henika paid Captain Lee Ann Holroyd a visit at the FBI National Academy in August. They were just around the corner at the DEA training facility.

17 Sgt. David Lariz at a Live Line demonstration put on by Florida Keys Electric Coop at Bayview Park.

18 With the money that COT-52 collected from their bake sale, they chose to donate all proceeds ($370.84) to the Care Center for children in need of back to school clothes/supplies. Class Captain Deputy Israel Rodriguez and Deputy Cesar Martinez presented gift cards and backpacks to Office Manager Annie Rojas (far left). GOOD JOB COT 52!!!

19 Upper Keys Deputy Jason Farr working over Labor Day weekend keeping the waters safe.

20 Sgt. David Lariz had custom Yeti cups made as a thank you gift for Sgt. Jake Brady and his squad. Sgt. Brady s squad assisted when Sgt. Lariz was short on road coverage.

21 Working with Kids SCHOOLS, CHILDREN S ACTIVITIES, EXPLORERS AND CADETS.

22 The Explorer Honor Guard presented flags during a recent opening ceremony of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 154 meeting in Marathon. After the presentation, Explorers presented Legion Officers with an Explorer Post 906 photograph and a letter of appreciation for their generous sponsorship/donation to the Middle Keys Explorers.

23 In August, Monroe County Fire Rescue put on "Beat the Heat" program with children in the Bay Point area. The children learned about fire safety, as well as traffic safety. This young gentleman became a Junior Deputy, Junior Trooper, and Junior Firefighter/ EMT.

25 School Resource Deputy Larry O Neill conducted a meet and greet with this Island Christian School kindergarten class. They discussed officer's duties as well as safety concerns, including when and how to call 911. Teachers Sherri Graf and Keri Lobdell were in attendance, as well as Youth Pastor Trevor Mann. The kids can be seen holding up there new MCSO gadgets.

26 Traffic Deputy John McGee is the mentor and shooting coach for the Key West High School Navy JROTC marksmanship club. Here they are getting some air rifle & firearm safety / range time. The group is looking forward to competition with other JROTC teams from around south Florida.

27 Traffic Deputy John McGee spent time at the Barcelona Drive bus stop on Big Coppitt Key recently where we have received complaints of people passing school buses illegally. He took some time out for a photo-op which this cutie-pie.

28 Just before the start of school, Upper Keys Sgt. Jason Madnick's shift spent the morning shopping with local children to help them prepare for the upcoming school year. Many of the donations came from local businesses.

30 On August 25th, the Monroe County Sheriff's Explorers implemented a Explorer Major position. Five Explorers from Posts 904, 905 & 906 applied for the position by submitting letters of interest, resumes and attending an oral review board. All applicants did well during this process. The Board recommended Explorer Annabelle Marcey from Post 906, Middle Keys. Annabelle was promoted to Explorer Major and she will Assist Advisors with reaching the yearly goals and objectives of the Explorer program. A special thank you to board members: FWC Capt. Dave Dipre, Det. Rosary Ponce, Athletics Director Theresa Konrath, Lt. Derek Paul, and Deputy Joshua Baer.

35 Happy belated birthday to Deputy Alex Davis who celebrated with her squad at the range shooting with Deputy John McGee and then had a lunch party at Bobalou s Restaurant on Ramrod Key.

36 Happy belated birthday to Deputies Ken Fricke and Jon Riggs, who celebrated together with a bowling party at the Navy bowling alley. Fun was had by all!

37 The Sheriff s Office in the Lower Keys said goodbye and good luck to long-time employee Dave Chavka, who retired in August.

39 Sgt. Linda Mixon s squad was assisted by Traffic Enforcement Deputy John McGee writing parking tickets along 5 th Avenue on Stock Island.

40 HIDTA Director Samuel Santana and Finance Assistant Director Jill Cranney-Gage, who was in Puerto Rico (before all the hurricanes) for inventory.

41 Training ROLL CALL TRAINING, OTHER TEAM AND UNIT TRAINING, RANGE, TRAINING UNIT, CONFERENCES.

42 Upper Keys Sgt. Jason Madnick conducts vehicle inspections at roll call.

43 Traffic Enforcement Deputy Orlando Alvarez recently conducted a roll call training at the Marathon station. He trained deputies on trends of DUI and drug detection in drivers. He helped the Marathon deputies gear up for the " Drive sober or get pulled over" campaign extending through Labor day weekend.

50 Cleaning up the Keys COMMUNITY CLEANUPS, GRAFFITI ERADICATION, SQUAD CLEANING ACTIVITIES.

51 Sgt. Nick Whiteman, Deputies Matthew Cory, Orey Swilley, Ian Douthirt, and Darrel Walraven removed a truck full of trash from 15th Street in Marathon.

52 Sunshine St Sgt. Linda Mixon and Deputy Alex Davis spending time on some chronic areas of Stock Island where trash and dumping never seems to end.

53 Lower Key Sgt. David Lariz and Deputy Alex Davis cleaning up Park Drive, Rockland Key.

54 Lower Keys Sgt. David Lariz and Deputy Martin Harbin stopped to pick up trash just south of Crane Boulevard on Sugarloaf Key.

55 While on a call, Deputy Swogger noticed some garbage and debris near the shoreline of the North end of the 7 mile bridge. He enlisted the help of Deputies Orey Swilley and Mario Benedetti. They spent a couple minutes removing the items.

56 Sergeant Calhoun and Deputy Pacifico cleaned up an old campsite which was located near Walgreen s on Big Pine.
