1 ADMINISTRATOR S WEEKLY REPORT # September 5 th 11 th, 2016 CALLS FOR SERVICE This Week 2016 YTD YTD Change Fire % Aid % Other % Total % Last Week: The Administrative Offices of the VRFA were closed on Monday, September 5 th in observance of Labor Day. Senior Staff held their weekly meeting on Tuesday, September 6 th at Administrator Robertson attended a conference call of the Washington Fire Chiefs Legislative Committee on Tuesday, September 6 th. On Wednesday, September 7 th, the quarterly Captains Meeting was held at DC Swearingen attended the King County Chiefs Automatic Aid Working Group on Wednesday, September 7 th in Mercer Island. On Thursday, September 8 th, IT Manager Smith attended the VMware training session in Kirkland. A full day meeting of the negotiations teams for the Firefighter, Deputy Fire Marshal, Captain & Assistant Fire Marshal Collective Bargaining Agreement for 2017 to 2019 was held on Friday, September 9 th at EA Bartol attended the Washington Fire Chiefs Administrative Professionals education committee meeting on Friday, September 9 th in Issaquah. Administrator Robertson will attend the Habitat for Humanity First Home Kick- Off of Veteran Community housing with VC Guier on Tuesday, September 13 th in Pacific. Senior Staff will hold their weekly meeting on Tuesday, September 13 th at The Civil Service Commission will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 13 th at Auburn City Hall. On Tuesday, September 13 th, the Finance Committee and Board of Governance will hold their monthly meetings at Administrator Robertson will attend the monthly South King County Leadership Forum, sponsored by King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer, on Wednesday, September 14 th in Auburn. The Finance and IT Teams will attend a meeting to discuss the TeleStaff software integration to GP Financial Software on Wednesday, September 14 th in Kent. Senior Staff will hold a meeting to continue development of the 2017 budgets on Thursday, September 15 th at On Thursday, September 15 th, VRFA staff will attend the Auburn Community Picnic at Les Gove Park. CFO Horaski, IT Manager Smith & Fiscal Coordinator Boyle will attend the Microsoft Dynamics training session on Friday, September 16 th in Bellevue. Administrator Robertson will attend the Homelessness Task Force discussion on Friday, September 16 th at the Auburn Senior Center. 911 Requests for Services / Customer Service: Aid Call: (Algona) On Monday, September 5 th at 1:00 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult female with stroke like symptoms. The patient was transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC) via a private ambulance. Animal Rescue: (Lakeland Hills) On Tuesday, September 6 th at 8:03 a.m., firefighters were notified by a local homeowner of a deer trapped in a chain 2
3 link fence. Firefighters were able to cut the fence and free the animal s leg. The deer cautiously moved towards the woods and the Fish and Game Department were notified of the situation. Aid Call: (Auburn) On Wednesday, September 7 th at 8:05 a.m., firefighters responded to an elderly male complaining of weakness. Firefighters assessed the patient then transported him to MAMC for further treatment. Vehicle Accident: (South Auburn) On Thursday, September 8 th at 3:48 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a 3 car vehicle accident. There were a total of two patients, both adult males who were treated at the scene with minor injuries. One patient was then transported to MAMC by private ambulance. Aid Call: (Pacific) On Friday, September 9 th at 3:33 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult male who was having a diabetic problem. The patient was evaluated by firefighters and King County Medics and then left at home with his family. Car Fire: (South Auburn) On Saturday, September 10 th at 10:27 a.m., firefighters responded to a vehicle fire near the Outlet Collection. The fire was quickly extinguished and is currently under investigation. Aid Call: (Auburn) On Sunday, September 11 th at 9:50 a.m., firefighters responded to an elderly male complaining of left shoulder pain. The patient was evaluated at the scene and then transported to MAMC by private ambulance. Training Division Activities: Year Weekly Year to Date 13,349 12,777 EXOS Firefighter Mentorship Training: B/C Olson and Firefighter Scharf visited the EXOS Training Facility in Phoenix, Arizona to attend the 3 day Firefighter Mentorship Program. This program is designed to teach Peer Fitness Trainers how to administer fitness and nutrition training to firefighters to make them more fit and healthy. The trainings main focus is based on movement that has shown to lower work related injuries to firefighters. Zone 3 B/C Training: The Training Consortium developed and delivered the annual Zone 3 B/C Training on September 6 th, 7 th and 9 th. The topics covered included Haz-mat IC, Bakken Oil spills, incident type transitions, assigning ladder 3
4 companies, firefighter exposure reduction, light rail incident management and strike team mobilizations. Fire Marshal s Office: Business Fire & Life Safety Inspections: Certified Fire Inspectors completed 1 business safety inspection this week. 5 Other Follow-up on recent fire reports Public Education PIEO Staff presented fire safety and evacuation information to residents at Wayland Arms Apartments, a King County Housing facility. The October Fire Watch proof was received and reviewed by PIO staff and returned to graphic designer for edits. Posts were made to Facebook regarding a deer rescue and information on National Emergency Preparedness month. PIEO staff educated an expectant father on how to properly install an infant car seat. PIEO staff coordinated an engine crew to visit the First Responder s Appreciation event at the Auburn Farmer s Market. Fire Investigation There were no new incidents requiring the services of the Fire Investigation Unit. Planning and Logistics P&L received 6 apparatus and 8 facility/small tool maintenance requests. P&L conducted a site visit at Station 31 and 38 for potential general contractors for facility improvements. Improvements will include interior painting, carpeting, kitchen cabinet re-facing or replacement, and new kitchen countertop. Bids will close on September 14 th. BC Larberg and Captain Thompson attended annual BC Training at SKCFTC. Acceptance testing and repairs were completed on the new fire pumper. The new engine is currently being outfitted with tools, equipment, and accessory items. 5
