To announce the initiative, the Company organized a press conference that was headed by PR & Information Group Manager Sami Al-Juhaim and attended by Information TL Mohammad Al-Basri. The press conference was widely covered by the local media. In a speech he delivered on the occasion of launching the initiative known as PULSE, Al-Juhaim said that the Company s aim is to expand the economic culture among Kuwaiti youth because of its importance in shaping the future of Kuwait. The initiative will also describe the important role oil plays for the State of Kuwait. Al-Juhaim proudly stated that the implementation of the program was taking place in close cooperation with the Protégés, a nonprofit company that seeks to encourage Kuwait s youth in their development. Protégés Manager Shamlan Al-Bahr said that the PULSE program falls in line with the distinctive strategic partnership between KOC and the Protégé training program, which aims at creating a well-informed generation with leadership qualifications, in addition to highlighting the humanitarian and social dimensions of the oil industry in the State of Kuwait. Al-Bahr maintained that the program has the cooperation and support of the Ministry of Education, adding that KOC engineers lend their expertise in the education of Kuwaiti students of both genders from all governorates. The PULSE program, which has a total cost of KD 285,000, will reward winning students with a full week of activities and field tours in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, where they will be familiarized with sources of alternative energy. Each governorate in Kuwait has nominated two schools for boys and another two for girls, while each school has nominated five students from the Sciences Section and five from the Letters Section to represent their schools by producing the best projects related to oil, gas, environment and social services. 2 2 KOC Wins Excellence in Capability & Response Award At the Offshore Arabia Conference & Exhibition in Dubai A KOC paper on Marine Oil Spill Prevention won the Excellence In Capability & Response Award at the 8 th Offshore Arabia Conference & Exhibition that was recently held In Dubai. The event was held under the patronage of the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashed Al- Maktoom. It was themed: Regional Oil Spill Prevention & Preparedness. The KOC delegation to the conference was led by Marine Operations Manager Fadhel Bouresli. He was accompanied by a number of officials and Company employees. The conference is considered the biggest of its kind at the regional level, with the participation of 200 exhibitors from 33 countries, the attendance of 4,200 visitors, and the contribution of 65 consultant experts representing various fields of specializations related to oil and gas. The Awards of Appreciation were distributed to the participants during a Gala Dinner at the Armani Hotel inside the Burj Khalifa Tower, Dubai. Effective collaboration between Fields Development (S&EK) & EK-II Maintenance has played a decisive role in expediting the installation of new wells. Operations Group Manager (EK) Hamed Al-Mutairi, Fields Development (SK) TL Dawoud Al-Matar and TL Maintenance (EK-II) Abdulla Al-Saleh visited the first well, BG-0800 (GC-02) and said they appreciated the excellent efforts exerted by the team involved in this work, which has been done for the first time in a S&EK asset towards production assurance. On her side, Snr. Eng. Reeham Ali, from Fields Development S&EK, explained the best practice behind this initiative with the help of Snr. Engineer Ravi Kurma (FD S&EK) and conveyed sincere thanks to Snr. Eng. Hussain, Ali Qasem, Salah Al- Dawoud, and Bader Al-Tarkait, for their support and successful performance. 3 3 3 rd International Fire & Safety Conference and Exhibition Fire Team represented KOC KOC s Fire Team recently represented the Company at the 3rd International Fire & Safety Conference and Exhibition which was held under the auspices of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al- Mubarak Al-Sabah. Themed, Response to Risks, High Standards, the event was officially opened by the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, who emphasized that the conference is in line with international and regional efforts to enhance the performance of firemen and entrench the culture of security and safety, which is a basic requirement. At the KOC booth, Fire Officer Jassem Al- Khamees stated that the aim of the Company s participation in such an event is to explain how the Fire Team operates. He added, We also explain to visitors the role of the Team in containing all incidents that may face oil installations. In the same vein, Public Relations Officer Mai Abdul Khaleq underscored the importance of taking part in such events and said that more than 40 specialized international companies were represented in the event.

4 4 Technical Workshop on Advances in Polymer Technology Organized by R&D Group Program Team The Research & Development Group Program Team recently organized a technical workshop under the title of Advances in Polymer Technology. A large number of participants representing various KOC assets and groups attended the workshop. The two-hour workshop was conducted by Dr. Alain Zaitoun, an expert on Polymer Technology and the President of Poweltec, France. The subjects covered during the workshop included recent advances in polymer formulations, new trends in polymer EOR applications, usage of polymers for Water Shutoff and Sand Control Application. The HR Team (Export & Marine) recently organized a Blood Donation campaign at B-5 in the Office Complex. Team Leader Faleh Al-Azmi explained that the venue was selected in order to give momentum to the drive. He expressed gratitude to the donors who, according to him, help others without knowing them or expecting a return, for they do it on purely humanitarian grounds. Senior HR Analyst Ali Al-Turki stated that blood donation is a humanitarian issue that falls in line with the Company s involvement in volunteer activities. 5 5 Critical Legal Issues in Claims & Bidder Deviation Workshop Organized by the Projects & Claims Team The Projects & Claims Team (Legal Affairs Group) recently organized a workshop on Critical Legal issues in Claims & Bidder Deviation. Snr. Legal Consultants Essam Amer and Ibrahim Clapp delivered their presentations to a group of employees from the Contracts, Commercial and Legal Affairs Groups. The session started with information delivered about Claims, Truth Finding Process, Claim Meeting Contracts, Controlling and the Legal Affairs Teams, Contracts Versus Applicable Laws and Foreign Law Application Versus Local Law Application. Part II focused on the discussion of common claims made by contractors, the need to make proper inquires, Bidders Deviation Requests, incomplete or defective performance by contractors, breaching, abstention, foreign contractors clashing with Kuwaiti agents (Partners) and Contract Termination. The information was delivered in a bid to deepen legal awareness about critical legal issues in Claims & Bidder Deviation. KOC Security Guards Recognized Guards successfully accomplish training course The first batch of KOC security guards recently completed a specialized training course as part of the 1700 Integrates Security System. They were recognized during a ceremony attended by TL (Admin & Support Services) of the Security and Fire Group Adel Al-Azmi and Acting TL Major Projects (V) Khaled Al-Mehaini. Al-Azmi commended the trainees for their commitment and underscored the importance of this project and its necessity for the Company. For his part, Al-Mehaini explained that the project seeks to set up a modern and integrated security system in KOC installations and facilities.

6 6 KOC s Bowling Team has won 2 nd place in the Bowling Championship Finals for the 2014 Ministries and Government Institutions Tournament. The Ministry of Defense s Team secured the first position in the championship that witnessed a fierce contest amongst participants. The event took place at the Cozmo Complex in Salmiya. KOC Bowling Team Member Rashed Al- Qassar coordinated the Championship in conjunction with the Public Authority for Youth and Sports. Al-Qassar commended the Team s outstanding performance, saying that it secured an advanced position on merit. He added that the Team performed extremely well in all rounds. 7 7 KOC Employees Visit Noor Academy For Special Needs Process Engineer Mariam Malallah recently represented the Water Handling Team (WK) during a visit to the Noor Academy for Special Needs. Engineer Malallah was accompanied by Exploration & Production Information Management team representatives which included Petroleum Data Engineer Aisha Al-Taher and Anfal Al-Hamad. The event took place in the presence of TL Water Handling (WK) Salman Al-Qabandi. Defensive Driving Training Well Surveillance trains 120 new recruits In conjunction with the Training and Career Development Group, the Well Surveillance Group has trained 120 newly recruited KOC employees on Defensive Driving at the Unity Center. In this context, HSE Advisor (Well Surveillance Group) Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mahdi explained methods of defensive driving to avoid traffic accidents, reviewed the history of KOC incidents over the past ten years, and highlighted its efforts to reduce incidents and injuries. The course included the use of the Seat Belt Convincer that practically explains the importance of seat belts through car crash simulations at the speed of 8 kilometers per hour. The Rollover Simulator was also utilized which helps motorists stay unmoved during a car turnover. At the close of the training course, certificates were awarded to the participants.
