1 2015 QUÉBEC ABORIGINAL TOURISM AWARDS CALL FOR NOMINATIONS Québec Aboriginal Tourism (QAT) is proud to present the 2015 Québec Aboriginal Tourism Awards at the grand Entrepreneurship Recognition Gala for aboriginal tourism. The gala will be the highlight of the 4 th International Aboriginal Tourism Conference (IATC) a first on Huron-Wendat territory to be held at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Québec City on March 24-25, For all the details about the conference, visit the IATC 2015 website: Published on December 17, 2014 DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: MUST BE RECEIVED BY FEBRUARY 1, 2015 AT 5 P.M., EST. CONTEXT QAT will be hosting the Entrepreneurship Recognition Gala for aboriginal tourism at the 4 th International Aboriginal Tourism Conference. The Gala night is set on March 25, 2015 at 6 p.m. The venue will be the enchanting Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Québec City. This Entrepreneurship Recognition Gala aims to reward the key players of our industry and bring Aboriginal Québec into the limelight. It is the first time that the IATC conference will be held outside British Columbia. Québec and the Huron-Wendat are proud to host the 2015 edition. Under the theme Commit to Achieve The role of commitment in the performance of our industry, the IATC will bring together more than 300 aboriginal tourism representatives, enterprises and organizations from Canada and abroad. The grand Entrepreneurship Recognition Gala for aboriginal tourism in Québec highlights and celebrates the success, efforts and dynamism of those involved in our industry by rewarding aboriginal enterprises, entrepreneurs and key partners that offer an exceptional and high-quality aboriginal experience to tourists. Both individuals and enterprises can be entered for these awards. You may nominate yourself or your peers Québec Aboriginal Tourism Awards: Nominations are now open under eleven categories Conditions: Nominees must be QAT members in good standing for under the categories identified below. CATEGORIES OPEN FOR ACTIVE MEMBERS: ARTISTS AND CRAFTSMEN AWARD This award acknowledges an artist or craftsman who has contributed to the tourism industry by offering a better understanding of the aboriginal culture, traditions and history through his/her art. Nominees in this category can be contemporary-style or traditional artists, singers, dancers, craftspeople, etc. BOUTIQUE/SHOP AWARD This award celebrates the innovation and success of an aboriginal boutique/shop that offers a variety of unique and traditional items to visitors. Nominations are encouraged from those who promote aboriginal products and artists. CULTURAL CENTRE/INTERPRETATION SITE/MUSEUM AWARD This award will be given to a cultural interpretation centre or a tourist attraction site that showcases the know-how, history and traditions of the aboriginal people via exhibitions, workshops, and so forth. Nominees in this category may be cultural centres, interpretation centres, art galleries or museums. BEST ACCOMMODATION AWARD This award recognizes an aboriginal establishment for its outstanding customer service and amenities improving the overall customer accommodation experience. 3 NATURE/ADVENTURE AWARD This award acknowledges an aboriginal enterprise or entrepreneur who offers an outstanding nature or adventure tourism experience. Nominees should demonstrate cultural understanding and respect for the environment. OUTFITTER AWARD This award acknowledges an aboriginal outfitter for outstanding customer service and amenities that improve the overall customer experience while sharing aboriginal culture, know-how, history and traditions. RESTAURANT/GASTRONOMY AWARD This award will be given to an aboriginal enterprise or entrepreneur for exceptional food preparation and serving skills that positively highlight First Nations gastronomy. Nominees in this category can be restaurants or caterers. CATEGORIES OPEN FOR ACTIVE AND DELEGATE MEMBERS: MARKETING AWARD This award will be given to an aboriginal enterprise or entrepreneur who has demonstrated effective marketing skills especially in ROC/foreign markets; made use of outstanding promotional campaigns, advertising and original communication tools; and/or stood out by the consistent ability to meet the stringent requirements of the distribution network. HUMAN RESOURCES AWARD This award will be given to a person from the aboriginal tourism industry in recognition of fruitful efforts in promoting careers and growth within the industry. The award may thus acknowledge the skills and contribution of an outstanding employee to the success of his/her enterprise in the sector of aboriginal tourism. TOP EVENT AWARD This award acknowledges a successfully organized and innovative aboriginal event that showcased aboriginal know-how, history, traditions, arts, etc. Nominees in this category may be pow wows, gatherings or festivals. INDUSTRY PARTNER: *OUTSTANDING INDUSTRY PARTNER AWARD Candidates for this award will be determined by QAT without any nomination. This award will be given to a non-aboriginal enterprise or organization that has demonstrated exceptional leadership by collaborating and creating partnerships with aboriginal tourism entrepreneurs, communities and QAT or by contributing to the development of aboriginal tourism in Québec. 4 HOW TO NOMINATE YOURSELF OR YOUR PEERS IN ONE OF THE CATEGORIES OF THE 2015 QUÉBEC ABORIGINAL TOURISM AWARDS: 1Please fill out the attached nomination form and send it by to Eric Duchesneau at or mail it to: 2015 Québec Aboriginal Tourism Awards Committee 50 boulevard Chef Maurice Bastien, suite 220 Wendake, Québec G0A 4V0 DEADLINE: February 1, 2015 by 5 p.m., EST. 2 Documents to support your nomination (will be considered an asset): A cover letter A letter of support from a partner A press review A local or regional recognition Other relevant documents that may support your nomination (6 pages max.) To be eligible for the awards, nominees must be QAT members in good standing for Nominations must be made under the appropriate categories. Selection of nominees The selection panel is made up of QAT team members, a Québec ministry of tourism representative, and an associate member or a member of the Board of Directors of the corporation whose professional activities are directly related to the categories of the 2015 Québec Aboriginal Tourism Awards. The panel will select the finalists and the winners for each category. Conflicts of interest will not be tolerated. The organizing committee of the Gala, selection panel members and any other person involved in the nominees selection process are responsible to ensure the confidentiality of the information transmitted in the context of these awards. 5 Nominees will be assessed according to the following: 1. Description of the candidate's tourism activity and merits for the award (20%). 2. How the nominee meets or exceeds expectations of visitors via an outstanding/ memorable aboriginal experience (20%). 3. How the nominee contributes to the advancement of aboriginal culture in the community (20%). 4. How the nominee stimulates tourism, jobs and the local economy (20%). 5. How the nominee innovates in the creation, promotion and delivery of the aboriginal cultural tourism experience (20%). To further support your nomination: SEND US AT LEAST 2 recent photographs for presentation purposes at the Gala (an asset); If possible, send us a short 1-minute video describing yourself or your organization (an asset); Give QAT permission to use your information in the 2015 edition of Origin(e), the tourism magazine for aboriginal Québec, to introduce you/your company to our readership.
