5 Editor s Note My dear Rotarians, Anns and Annets, Our current Rotary Year ends 30 th June and a new Year begins on 1 st July. As we are embarking on a new Rotary Year, a new team of office bearers takes up positions to keep the Rotary progressing towards new horizon. I am privileged to be the elected Bulletin Editor for the Rotary Year I have had the opportunity to be a part of the Rotary Club of Kazhakuttom for over a year and had the fortune to be associated with all our Club members. I consider this as a privilege to work with an excellent group of Rotarians in our Club. My intention is to try and communicate with the Rotary Community all things of importance - small or big - through our weekly bulletin. Having said this, I do not intend to be doing this job all by myself. I encourage each and every member of our Club including Anns and Annets to share their experience by sending short write ups to the Editor for review and inclusion in our Weekly bulletin. Anns and Annets play a very important role in the lives of Rotarians. Unless they give their support, it will be difficult for our Rotarians to feel free to stay for weekly meetings so late in the evening. So, my intention is to encourage our Anns and Annets to use a column in the weekly bulletin. This will be exclusively dedicated for them. We have an excellent Editorial Board and I feel confident, hand in hand, we can bring to you a bulletin which will be informative and enjoyable. I want to thank our President Rtn. Jerry Fernandez, Secretary and immediate past Editor Rtn. Dr Mary John, and fellow Rotarians who provided support by passing on relevant information / reports etc. and finally our fellow Rotarians for their whole hearted support. Let us all join hands to LIGHT UP ROTARY -the new theme by R.I.President Gary C.K. Huang - by doing important and meaningful, sustainable Projects during Rotary Year and onwards. Looking forward to receiving everyone s continued support. Yours in Rotary, Rotarian PHF BalanBhaskaran Bulletin Editor 3

7 The President s Point Dear Rotarians, Itake this opportunity to thank my fellow Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Kazhakuttom for electing me as your President for the year I am fully aware of the responsibilities of a President, that too of one of the prestigious clubs in this Rotary District. My predecessors have set high standards for the Club and I am duty bound to uphold them. It will be my endeavour to take the Club to greater heights in all the Avenues of Service and make it the best club in the District. I am fully confident that all of you will lend your hands in all activities. Our Club is blessed with both senior and junior Rotarians. We will have the wisdom of the senior Rotarians and vibrancy of the youngsters. It is also my intension to make the family members more active so as to make the Club a cohesive unit. RI President Garry C.K. Huang presents us with a futuristic and most relevant theme: Light Up Rotary. This can be done by sharing our service, strengthening our clubs and letting our light shine in our communities. We are urged to join the Rotary communities in their efforts to eradicate Polio from this globe. This year Light UP Rotary also means to enhance Rotary membership and retain existing membership. Similarly, the District Project is Rotary Alternative Energy (RAEY) focusing on solar energy. We have a very special club project to join the heartening District Focus Project Share & Care: Supporting Mentally Challenged Children of the Special School near Kazhakuttom. I have in mind many projects and programs to be implemented during the coming Rotary Year. More than the finance, it is the involvement of Rotarians that is important, to implement them. I solicit the co-operation of all my fellow Rotarians in this regard. My responsibility has increased, because our Club is facing the challenge in the membership growth. Contribution to TRF is of prime importance to any club. Moreover, we have to maintain our EREY status also in the coming year. I once again appeal to all my fellow Rotarians to lend their hands during my tenure as President. I will make myself available to you and the Club at all times. I will be a patient listener to all your suggestions for improving the activities of the Club. Being categorized as the Best Class President, I assure that by the time I lay down the office of President I would have taken the Club at least one step forward from the present status. Thanks and regards Yours in Rotary, Rtn. Jerry Fernandez 5
